There is a way to set up your email to text you everytime you get an email from ERAS. This way, you'll get a text message of any interview invites as soon as they hit your email (without needing to check your email all the time and without needing a smartphone). Hope that helps.

Did you anyone else get this message from ut southwestern ? Is this just precautionary? As far as I can tell my transcript is up but my school has a tendency to mess these sort of things up.

"The department of surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is currently reviewing applicaitons. Our requirement to have your application pass the first run through is to have your transccript available. Please check with your medical school to make sure that your transcript has been uploaded to ERAS"

I didn't get that message from them. I would definitely call your school to confirm that your supporting documents (including transcript) were uploaded to ERAS. I don't know exactly how that works, but the registrar's office is probably your best bet.

Hi there! Random question (and don't mean to hijack the thread), but if we've applied to a program that has already offered interviews, and have not received an interview offer, is it safe to interpret that as a rejection? Or will programs send out multiple batches of invites, so to speak?

This would be a bad assumption. Programs definitely do not offer interviews on a single day. Maybe, they offered to their own students, maybe just a first round run, maybe just some very top candidates. However, most schools offer on multiple days as they process the applications.

I agree. I wouldn't worry too much if you haven't heard anything yet from a school on the list. There has been one or two schools on the list where someone heard from them one day, and then I got an interview offer a couple of days later. This early into the game I think a lot of them probably will be offering interviews in several rounds as they go through applications.
 
Just got a prelim offer from a community program when I didn't even apply for a prelim position, only categorical. I called and they said they are offering me a preliminary position, and not a categorical one. I like how they decided for me that I do, in fact want one even though I didn't apply for one. What a slap in the face. Especially since I already have 5 categorical general surgery interviews. I wonder if I should politely tell them Im not interested or schedule a date just in case. Any advice?
 
Same for me. Abt 50/50 with categorical bs preliminary and I didn't even apply for prelim. I am a bit insulted actually.

Plenty of people get invites to programs at a later date. Don't give up on these programs completely. However, also remember that you've been triaged into their "maybe" pile, and this may mean your chances of actually matching there aren't stellar. While some places will allow themselves to be wowed by a great interview, others already have their mind made up before they meet you.

Try not to feel insulted. If you are an IMG, many doors will be closed to you, and that's just the way it is. However, I would recommend that you don't schedule the interview yet. Wait until you see how many categorical invites you get.

Remember that most people scramble into prelim positions. There's no reason to go interview for them unless you are a very marginal applicant. OTOH, if it's November and you only have 6-7 categorical invites, I would schedule that prelim interview......

I received a message from UIC Metro today stating that they're waiting to evaluate my application until all of my LORs are in (and per this forum, they've already sent out interview invites). So that may be the case with some of these other programs you haven't heard back from yet...at least that's what I'm telling myself 🙂

Hang in there, where you end up is where you end up, and is what's meant to be. It'll all work out just fine in the end!
 
This is in hopes to calm some nerves. I did some data scraping and analysis from the last 3 years general surgery interview invite threads. I looked at the earliest interview date and then looked at follow up contacts by schools to get a scope of their interview timings. Anyway, here are a couple results I have ESTIMATED.

1). Schools do not send 1 batch of interviews, many send out interview invites over 3 weeks or many times longer periods of time.
2). Based on some simplifying assumptions, I estimate that approximately 9% of interview invites to be sent have landed at this point.
3). Certainly, there is a high propensity for community programs to be earlier and academic a little later (in general). So you could use this information to say that if you applied mostly community you should have a little more than 10% of your total interview invites at this point. If you applied mostly academic this information currently doesn't carry tons of validity. I can add to give you some value, that the estimated halfway point for interviews offered this year ought to fall in the week of 10/9 or 10/16 for all interviews.
4). These are estimates based on the last three years data, 2008-2009, 2009-2010, 2010-2011. Times were adjusted to line up weekdays, classically there has been very little action on the weekend. Information was taken all from available data on SDN (meaning this is a subset, and may have biases.)

Finally, a disclaimer. I am actually a MD turned analyst, not a surgical applicant, however family is going through process. The family member was attempting to gauge interview timing and action, so I helped out. Figured I would at least post my findings.
 
Another great way to find out programs general patterns is

residencyadvisor.info

you can use it to track your applications and create a neat little interview calendar. You can also see when programs have traditionally sent out interview invites and what dates those interviews are for. Of course it's all self reported but since we are probably all at least a little neurotic about this, I figure it's pretty accurate. You can also see how past people have preferentially ranked the programs you applied to.

Can a program reject you after confirming your interview date through eras? I just got an email from a program that confirmed my interview date 3 days ago, sent me accomodation directions, etc and now I got a rejection from them? Is this an automated email that got sent to me by mistake? Or did they reconsider? I checked the address box, and it was invisible, which makes me think it was a group email.
