Any one hear recently? I'm still waiting myself. Anyone who was complete around the same time as these guys who were accepted still waiting to hear?

Congrats to those who were accepted! Hopefully see you there next fall!

i have a question about the online application status. all of my materials are in, but the status of my application on ApplyYourself still says "imcomplete." did that happen to anyone else? should i just wait it out for the computer to update? thanks in advance.

yeah, same thing happened to me. i think they just mark everything as complete when they're ready to review your app. i'd just wait it out. if it takes more than a few days from now, just shoot them an email and say you want to make sure you have everything in.

Yup, I was also "incomplete" online for about a month even though all of my material was in.

Sounds about right to me. It fits with how my 'complete' status was marked

Hey guys.
I'm currently applying...
Those of you who submitted a copy of your AMCAS, did you guys attach a separate personal statement as well?

Nope. In the online app's statement section, I just uploaded a word doc that said "See AMCAS Personal Statement."

I just submitted my application a couple days ago!! Do you think its too late to be accepted for the upcoming year w/the following stats:

33 MCAT
3.65 GPA

it's not too late at all. assuming you're solid in everything else (EC's, recs, etc) you should be a shoe-in with those stats.

No, not at all. I think they just gave out a small amount of acceptances in January. There's plenty of time left...for everyone!

I'm under review as of feb 1st ! still no word yet. but i'm not really sure how well it's going to go..
i have a 27Q on my mcat and a 3.5 gpa but a 3.33 science gpa.
ehh we'll see.. i would love love love to go to georgetown 😀

Why do you need a SMP at all with those stats?

do you guys think my mcat score is too low to get into georgetown ? i am planning on taking the mcat again but I haven't decided on an exact date.. so i haven't told gu.. should i let them know i have plans on re-taking ? any adviceee ?

If I were you I'd rethink going into a SMP with your numbers. It won't be a fun year at all and you are paying A LOT of money for it. And if you don't do well, it will hurt your chances.

3.65 GPA

"Applicants usually have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 and total MCAT scores of at least 28. "

From the SMP Home page. Did they change the MCAT from 27 to 28? The page says last revised 8/16/04 but I swear it was at 27... I better apply quick before it gets any higher 😕

taken from the website:
What are the admissions criteria for the SMP?
To get into the SMP, it is recommended that students have at least a 3.0 undergraduate GPA and a 27 on the MCAT. The class of 2006 had an average undergraduate GPA of 3.3 and MCAT of 30.

Your quote above says USUALLY. so hey there are always exceptions 🙂

It'd better to simply call them and ask about it rather than listening to rumors on SDN. Also, at least in the past, the director of the program maintain a Yahoo message board and personally answers questions like this. Try to get hold of Dr Meyers. He generally will give you a straight-forward and honest answer.

im finishing my app rite now. ive written a personal statement for med school b/c my LOR wanted it. should i just submit that PS or write a new one thats like my resume but with a little more details?

also, how are your letters? i am doing a counselor, eng prof, and a doctor i did research with. they said like 2 sciences, but i dont think i can get 2 sciences until late march. =/

Hey guys,

So those that submitted apps how long did it take for them to update the documents received? I applied two weeks ago and it still says they haven't received my transcripts, LOR, etc...

If any of you have a general idea that would be great!

Thanks,

Thanks,

I think they mark documents 'received' when they review your file, not before. So I guess 'Documents received' is more like 'documents being reviewed' rather than 'received'.

Did you guys upload a resume? I didn't see any details specific to the SMP about resumes.

current SMP here...wishing you all good luck in the application process(med and SMP) and more importantly, goodluck next year in the program!!

If you guys haven't heard back in a while, I'd call or e-mail. I found out yesterday that they rec'd my transcript but didn't update their computer system. I submitted everything around Jan but now they've already received a third of the applications they plan to receive.

Made me paranoid about some of the silent schools in my current app cycle too 🙂

When you guys reviewed your application towards the end of the online application in pdf format, did you notice under 'educational background' that in the last slot for a school, the 'medical' box was checked? Also the social security number wasn't listed on the first page...

I got waitlisted 1/31. i have 3.25 with 30Q MCAT and NIH research, 3 pubs, lots of volunteering and working as well as D-1 athletics.

Does anyone know how they rank the waitlist (i.e. first come, first serve or by competitiveness of candidate??) I got my application in December and am hoping hoping hoping i am near the top of the list! Also, does anyone know when they start pulling people off the waitlist (or if they've done so already)? Will they re-review your application or accept you outright if a spot opens up?

Thanks! 🙂

It took about 2 weeks for the documents to be considered complete. My transcript was the last to be complete because they are processed first.

Currently waiting...

Hey I just got accepted! I was complete mid-January I think. If that helps anyone looking for a timeline.

Does anyone here know for sure that they are going to Georgetown?

Would you mind posting your stats? If I get accepted, I'd be there for sure...I'll pay double! (I mean take out double loans...)! 😀

really? Wanna help pay for my 60K future debt from the SMP? I'll be your lifetime study partner! 😛

With your MCAT score, I'd say $60K is quite a bargain for a study partner 😛

I just got the waitlist email, too. I wonder how this will work...I've heard of people getting bumped off the waitlist as late as the week before classes start! Fingers crossed that I get in somewhere else so I can at least stop freaking out. Any insight into their waitlist process would be really appreciated.

Yeah, its definitely happened on ocassion before (that late) but most people get off the waitlist much earlier as more medical school acceptances are given out nearer to April/May. I hear there is a significant waitlist movement, so don't count yourself out if you got on the waitlist!

Do you guys know how many people do the Gtown SMP each year? I see the stats online for % accepted to med school, etc. but not total numbers.
Thanx

what is everyone up to while they're waiting to hear back?

just to give everyone a more recent time scale:

application submitted: 2/7
application complete: 3/5 (even though i was told everything was received on 2/25)
email received on 3/7 saying my app is under review and to allow them 4-6 weeks for a reply.

awfully slow process

oh, and the graduate studies website says they accept 130 students each year

For those of you who are wondering:

I am a current SMP, and my app was "complete" a week after the deadline....my letters took longer than expected. I found out ~2 weeks later i was in. While it may be harder to get in applying late, it still is very possible, so don't not apply even if it is late...

Dood! Send them your updated MCAT scores asap! (That is, unless you already got an acceptance to medical school. 😛)

I wish! 🙂

I sent them an updated MCAT score ASAP... I have yet to hear back though... I don't know which one I would pick between Georgetown and Boston... Boston has a really good percentage of applicants getting in and to some really good schools!!

Hope to get that elusive acceptance to medical school soon though... we'll get there Vihsadas!!

heck yah we will! Who knows, maybe we'll end up in the same place next year! haha.

So I emailed the office yesterday to see how my application was doing since I'm on the waitlist, and it seems I'm getting conflicting information.

On their forums, they say they will periodically review applications and will occasionally give out acceptances. In the response I got from their office, they said final decisions will only be made later in the spring, which means we won't be periodically reviewed.

Not sure which I should believe. I have a feeling that the waitlist will only be reviewed at a later time in the spring, and there is no such thing as periodically reviewing files. It seems they say that on the forums to make us feel better and to make it look like they're really giving a lot of thought, but I think that's just a front. I don't know, that's just the impression I'm getting.

Yay! Got accepted. Now to choose between SFSU's nearby and relatively low-risk informal program or Georgetown's transcontinental orgy of hardcore studying SMP.

just wondering when were you complete and when do you get the good news
