I do go to UW too! and no, I applied to a ton of schools. With how crazy-competitive dental school is nowadays...you just never know!

I was worried about this too, but I don't think that's true.
I got one from Ohio State today via email... number and a friend of mine got one from UCSF and Midwestern.
 
same - Ohio State this morning via EMAIL!!! So pumped my #1 choice (OH resident) and my 3rd interview


Stats: AA 18 / PAT 19 / TS 18 <--there IS hope for us AA18 ppl

AADSAS submitted July 16th - mailed out Aug 11th

super fast - i got an email yesterday saying that my application was finally complete and boom, the next day i get the email invite!

EDIT: my AADSAS for OSU says Received/Application Complete

I was formerly Pre-Med up until September realizing that medical school is too competitive especially with my gpa and I really don't want to go to graduate school. Dental school was another option of mine that I am now committed to.

I understand that I am pretty late in the application process, and was wondering if applying to 20 schools is too much. I plan on sending the official application on Monday, Oct. 12.

I have a 3.3/3.2 biochemistry degree, AA 20, TS 20, PA 19 (only studied for 3 weeks for the DAT, but studying for MCAT (which I decide not to take) for one month helped me a lot. I have also done chemistry research, worked as a medical assistant, have done volunteer work in Mexico, and I currently tutor math/English on weekends for my church. btw I'm also Korean American, so I realize how competitive it is for me. I had two bad semesters where I took 3 lab sciences in each semester my sophomore year which F'ed up my gpa. I've applied to 4 top schools, 8 middle tier, and 8 bottom tier schools. Do any of you guys think that I have a shot of getting any interviews?

Ummm... I really hope that you took the time to research dentistry and that you shadowed a few dentists (putting in at least 40-50 hrs) prior to making this decision, because otherwise adcoms are going to tear you a new hole if you get an interview. Trust me on this one - I was accepted to med school and decided not to go the medical route due to a number of different reasons (not the least of which was the "stiff competition"), and one of the first questions I've gotten at every one of my interviews is "So I see here that you were accepted to medical school... why dentistry now?"

Since you "were premed up until September", I'm guessing that you haven't done any of the above (if you have, I apologize b/c that's pretty ambitious). I hope, for your sake, that you've actually seriously looked into this profession and that you're going into it because of genuine interest and not because it's "less competitive" than med school. I've got news for you, my friend - getting into dental school is pretty damn competitive (moreso now than ever before), and the competition doesn't diminish once you get in. If you were really committed to going into medicine, and wanted to increase your chances, why didn't you opt to go the osteopathic route? Depending on what your MCAT scores would've been, you probably could've been a pretty competitive applicant for DO schools.

Bottom line... if you're making this decision just because it's the best "alternative" to medicine, I'd highly suggest taking the time to find out if dentistry is a good fit for your personal and professional interests. If that means delaying application to D school a year, so be it...

I don't want to seem like a jerk or anything but this is the wrong thread to be posting this stuff about. This thread is for people who have gotten interview invites (hopefully mine are coming soon) and not to discuss chances of getting in. If you start your own thread, tons of people will be willing to give you advice and help you out!!

i got interview invites from NYU, MWU, and USC!! this is on top of my NOVA invite, really excited and nervous! first one is at NYU next week

Actually, most people here were committed to dentistry since the beginning. I have been wanting to go dental since early high school. Remember that you said medical school is too competitive especially with your GPA? You wrote that in an above reply. It seems you are the medical school reject.

Name calling is not necessary and I find it funny how you think dental students are med school rejects. Check the percentages, Dental School is just as, if not more competitive than Medical School... Maybe read the etiquette thread first before you go crazy on here and get a negative wrap...

hahahaha... WOW... sorry mods, but I can't help going off topic from this thread to respond to this one.

you claim that you don't want to go to med school because it's "too competitive", boast a 3.3 GPA (which I mention only b/c it's way below the avg GPA for matriculants to allopathic med schools), and then proceed to call someone else on this thread a "medical school reject"????

call me a jerk... frankly, call me whatever you want... but i'd check yourself before you start demeaning others for giving you a harsh reality check. if you're applying to D schools solely based on the mindset that it's "less competitive", i really hope schools see right through your BS b/c your future patients are ultimately going to suffer due to your lack of foresight...
