Omg I am so relieved!!!!
School: University of Pittsburgh.
Interview Dates😀ec 13 or Nov 29.
Notified through email (Nov10).
Mailed AADSAS (Sept 16)
I also know they cashed my check Oct 19.
Stats: oGPA:3.58/ sGPA:3.25 / AA:21/ TS:21/ PAT:25
Yes! Yes! Yes!
Does anyone know if the dates they give me are set in stone? I mean, one is pretty close to finals and the one in November is the day right before a Biochem exam. Not to mention Pittsburgh is a 8 hour drive. What should I do?
EDIT: The email also says: "These are the final two sessions of this semester." What does that mean?
Has anyone heard from tufts yet? I'd love to know whtas going on with them

Hey wbrown,
I heard from them about a week and a half ago for an interview after not hearing anything since they confirmed my application was completed on July 19th. They gave me 5 date options ranging from November 28th - December 8th to choose from. I think this was the second (albeit) small round of interviews offers they've made. The first was for early and mid November. I'm positive they'll send out more interview invites soon or right after December 1st unless they plan on filling their entire class with only people they interviewed in November. Good luck, I'm sure you'll hear from them soon!!!!
Eek, that's a long wait. Congrats though! 🙂
Hey smthngintheway! I got the same email today! Congratulations. Are you doing Nov. 29th or Dec. 13th? I have a final exam on Dec. 14th...
Oh that sucks about your final. Did you sign up for Nov. 29? They just sent an email saying that the Nov 29 spot has filled up. So I guess I'll be doing Dec 13!
FIRST INTERVIEW! SOOOO HAPPY! Dec 5th 🙂

@ajdoan What date is your interview?
I think it's December 5th
My Louisville status just went to received/under review 11/01/11 after being at received/complete since August. Anyone care to guess what that was all about?
I think it's December 5th
Yep 12/5. I was surprised since someone who got the invite yesterday has a 12/9 interview.

I only had first interview at pitts, then nothing so far
applied 11 schools
I am a senior standing and hoping to get a better gpa this year
science gpa 3.22/total 3.38
pat 22,
quantitative 23,
reading 19,
total science 22,
average 22
dont know if i have a shot this year
dat score = monster. sgpa = subpar. might need to bump up that GPA with a masters degree. you need to convince your adcoms that you didnt get lucky on the dat.
Could be other things too...people dont' just boil down into numbers.
low GPAs (esp sGPAs) create a lot of problems. Use Predents as one form of an example and then look at the average sGPAs of most schools (using the ADEA handbook.) a 3.2 sGPA is simply below the standard. It represents the lower 25% of any d-school class.
So in essence you are no longer competing for 100% of the seats, because you wont be the first priority of the school. You will be the remainder that fills the seats (in addition there are lot of URMs who tend to fill the lower echelons.)
And yes GPAs (overall, science and BCP) are the most important factors in any application. thats simply a fact.
A 3.2 sgpa at a top 15 university is VERY different from a 3.2sgpa from a community college. We don't know where this poster is coming from
Honestly, with his DAT score, I would've expected more schools to offer an interview. I know for a fact that certain schools, like Columbia are more forgiving to applicants with lower GPAs but high DAT scores.
Generally the high DAT score will allow some leeway on a lower GPA, which is why I'm thinking it may be something else on the poster's application.
Yes, GPA is important DEFINITELY, but 1/11 with a DAT score like that is interesting. I am not arguing that numbers aren't important, but his DAT is a very strong number.

This is incorrect. there are many threads on this. D-schools dont care or know where most people went to school (esp if its small school) there is NO PREFERENCE for GPAs out of any school. Therefore a GPA is a GPA is a GPA

Columbia is an exception, I wouldnt use this logic for the remaining d-schools. Most of those schools will not grant interviews to people with lower GPAs and higher DAT scores. Again use Predents to see a small sample or look at the ADEA book for more info.

This makes NO SENSE! Its the opposite. A high GPA can substitute a low DAT score. Not the reverse. Again see plenty of evidence on this from past threads, Predents or the ADEA Book

Please review the ADEA Book for more info and remember a higher GPA is ALWAYS better than a higher DAT score + lower GPA.
I agree! I have 3.2 GPA and a decent DAT score and I got an invite to Columbia.
I can tell you ADCOMs DO care where your GPA is coming from. At UMDNJ the admissions director personally says there is a variance score for the difficulty of the undergrad you attend. A lot preprofessional offices (For undergrad) will say otherwise, but it really does matter.
Either way, poster's sGPA could be better, but it is what it is. 🙂
Also, I know someone with a 3.0 sgpa who compensated with her DAT with a 25, and went to UPenn....so it seems it does make some sense that a low GPA can be compensated for with a HIGH Dat.

I totally agree with you. The dean at NYU and Columbia told me the same thing. There is a variance score for the difficulty of the undergrad you attend, as qhorse mentioned above. If they do not know the difficulty of your undergrad, they will place a large emphasis on your DAT scores.
sorry bud im not buying the bolded portion. Average DAT scores for most schools are the equivalent (around a 19.5) yet average GPAs vary significantly per school. What that means is that you can get a 19 on your DAT and have an equal chance at each school, BUT once your GPA is below a certain level you risk not getting in. For example, Harvard v Columbia. Columbia will take you with a low GPA but Harvard wont. Harvard's average GPA is around 3.7 meanwhile Columbia's is around a 3.4 That's one clear example of 2 school and it highlight how important a GPA really is.
If I had a choice I would love a 3.7 GPA with a 19 DAT than a 3.2 with a 20 DAT any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Because as evidenced by pure data, that DAT score wont make or break my chances, but the GPA will.
I am not disagreeing with your opinions. The point that I tried to bring across is that dental schools do view the gpa of a unknown undergrad compared to a gpa of known undergrad with some bias. In the eyes of adcom, 3.7 gpa and 20 AA from Harvard University is a preferred candidate than 3.7 gpa and 20 AA from John Doe University. If the latter candidate wants to get accepted, he would have to rock his DAT to a 25+ AA. However, if your GPA is substantially lower than 3.0, the emphasis on the DAT would not help your chances.
Agreed.
Furthermore, last time I checked, Harvard, Yale, Princeton and a lot of other great schools aren't BIG STATE SCHOOLS.
last time i checked majority of d-school applicants did not go to the above schools 🙂
None of us (neither you, pola or I went to Harvard) so yes if your GPA is higher than mine, you have a better shot.
Its not really to each his own, its facts, I'm not arguing against your opinion. I'm arguing against your factual misrepresentation.
Actually there were quite a few ivy leagers at my columbia interview... and then that one chick said that she was from harvard and then I thought to myself, "Go away please."

lol y u hating on harvard man? haha
This is true. I won't mention schools but I was interviewing at high stats d school and the admissions person said we love students from my undergrad. He also said he was surprised to see that last year there was only 3 ppl that matriculated into the school and that this year he wants to see more from my undergrad. And during the interview 5/24 ppl were from my undergrad and the rest of the ppl were from elsewhere no more than 2. People are just biased by nature. You can't help it.
Because they should all just be lawyers.
