**Official Interview/Acceptance/Rejection Thread 2014-2015**

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Heres my big update for y'all:

Mail-out July 1st
Undergrad GPA: 3.74 sGPA: 3.68
DAT: AA 20 PAT 19 RC 23 >> QR 17 (was told by my pre-health advisor that QR is fine, dont retake)
160+ hours of shadowing in all specialties, more hours in general Dentistry, many EC's, college football player for 4 years, fraternity positions, volunteer, etc.

UofD Mercy: Interviewed September 27th - Waitlisted - still waiting
UofMichigan: Interviewed January 16th - Denied
University of Illinois Mid. : Interviewed November 6th - Denied
UofMinnesota: Interviewed January 9th - Waitlisted
Marquette University: Interviewed October 31st - Waitlisted - updated to "Alternate Pool" on February 25th, which is different than alternate list - $1000 deposit made, still not accepted
Nova Southeastern University: Interviewed Dec. 12th - Waitlisted
Colorado University: Rejected by email
LECOM: Silence since last July
Case Western - Rejected by email

No acceptances at this point.

Since then I have emailed all the schools that I am waitlisted at with a "Letter of Intent" and I have sent an additional letter of rec. to all of them from my dentist whom I shadowed.

Any suggestions?

Thanks and good luck to you all.
What's your residency?

Does anyone know if the University of Michigans waitlist moves a decent amount? And do you know how many people are actually on the waitlist?
Schools don't tell applicants the number of people on the waitlist and your spot in it.

Movement depends on the school. Private, expensive schools move quite a bit. State schools, not so much.

Im kind of curious about the alternate pool at Marquette and the $1000 deposit. Is it refundable? How does that work?

Same ^^ that would be really messed up if it was non refundable. I don't see the point of having deposits for an alternate list.

They don't cash your check until you are accepted, so the deposit is "refundable" at any time as long as you don't get in.
Ok so just to clarify... If you get in and chose not to accept (accepted another offer before, etc) you lose that 1,000? Crazy

Just cancel the check with your bank if you don't want to go there. Also, I think you will get into Marquette. A lot of people will probably be forced to decide within the next few days due to the deadline. Also, you might want to retake the DAT to raise the QR and work on your interview skills, but I'm sure you'll get in this cycle.

Marquette is pretty attractive choice for a lot of people because it's cheaper than other private schools. So, there's very little movement in the waitlist.

Only suggestion I can give is that if you do not get off the waitlist this cycle and have to reapply, work on your interview skills. Getting interviews means that they like you on paper and they just want to see how you are in person. Hopefully it won't get to that point and that you get off the waitlist somewhere!

Getting interview just means that your academics, extracurricular, etc. are good enough for them to consider you. Your academics still play a huge part when they consider students for acceptance after the interview.

Thank you for all the response. So to clarify, it is not an alternate list. It is different than that, it's basically a step ahead of people who are on the alternate list, that is what the email specifically stated. They still have an alternate list, but they also have an alternate pool in which you are asked to make your deposit. If you never matriculate, no matter if you get an offer and deny that offer, or never get an offer, the check is not cashed. So you never pay the $1000 until you official accept an offer from them. Thank you, I also agree I may need to work on my QR score and interview skills. Do you guys think it would be worth anything to send my remaining schools yet another letter of recommendation? And I'm only saying that because I believe my football coach of the past 4 years could write me a very strong one which might show that I am committed to dentistry as a career, show continued interest and that I'm not willing to just give up because I've been wait listed? Or could it come off as annoying?

Thanks best of luck to all!! Oh and I am a Michigan resident!

Have your football coach write the letter! Who knows if it will benefit you and be the difference that results in you matriculating, but I highly doubt they will dock points from you for continuing to express interest and desire to be a dentist. I think 'annoying' by adcom standards are students that constantly barrage them with questions the students should have been able to figured out by themselves.

Did he mention if the class was full?

Also. Does anyone know what date addsas let's schools know how many deposits students are holding?

Class has been full for months, with few students getting accepted off the waitlist when spots open up. Schools report to AADSAS on 4/1 and AADSAS reports to school starting 4/5.

Does anybody have advice on BU's acceptance/rejection wait-time after an interview or info on how much of the class is filled?
It's been 4 weeks since my interview 🙁
I interviewed more then 4 weeks ago and in the same shoes as you. We prolly interviewed the same day lol. Keep me updated

no that's Detroit mercy.

I assume you're not taking your position because you have Minnesota?
Oh ok thanks... Strange because in aadsas UDM is the code for Maryland... Confusing!

Just got waitlisted at NYU. What are my chances and should I give the dean a call?

So they're starting to let people know today. When did you interview? This is just speculation but I'd say you have a decent shot given the price tag.

Anyone received acceptance from NYU today?

Been creeping the forums here and figure I might as well come out of the shadows.

My Rejections so far
With interview: ASDOH, Baylor
Without Interview: OKL, Creighton, MWU-AZ, NYU, USC, UT San Antonio
Did not attend interview: LECOM, NOVA

Interviewed without an answer: UT Houston (probably a rejection since their class is 95% full)

Acceptances: UNE, MWU-IL

Stats: DAT (19AA, 20TS, 19 PAT)
GPA: 3.88, sGPA 3.86

I really hope this inspires people applying next cycle. Believe in yourself and in your stats, even if you read here people posting phenomenal stats. I used to come here and read what people are posting and get discouraged. I was so discouraged that I was going to retake my DAT and wait a year, but god had different plans for me. If you have stats like mine then apply liberally and don't get intimidated by what you read here.

Congrats! Those aren't even bad stats though lol

I have been WAITING for an acceptance for you!!!! I enjoyed watching your persistence and good attitude about it all. You're going to be a dentist!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lovin the positive energy 🙂

compared to the DAT scores people are posting here, they kinda are lol.
21+ DATs is so common here

Yeah but your bomb GPA more than makes up for your dat, which is the average for enrollees.

Place on Hold List at CWRU. Seeing as this is an alternate list for the alternate list I think it's safe to say there is zero chance of me getting accepted there. Not upset because I was accepted to NYUCD!!

Hold list at Case. Still determined to go there.

Congrats Stump, been waiting to see you being on that acceptance train

Thanks!! It has definitely been a long, expensive, and very mentally draining road. It's all still unreal. Now instead of preparing for next cycle my fiance and I (with our two dogs) get to look for a place to live in NYC!!!!!
