It's never too early!

AAMC Hasn't officially released the '13 test dates yet, but unless something crazy happens they will stick somewhat to the old schedule and there will be but one (or two) administrations the end of January (around the 24th).

There has been a lot of talk of people planning on taking (or retaking) in January, so I figured we may as well converse in an organized fashion.

No writing section! It's too bad, too. I enjoyed the nap.

I'm supplementing studying with Khan. What/who is Chad?

Type in Chads Vid on Google and you will find out. SDN has block the website ***********.com, I am guessing because he rip off PR MCAT books.... I notice his gen chem and orgo review are directly related to PR gen chem and orgo books.

This is my first post, not sure if I'm using this correctly yet, so I'm sorry if I'm doing something wrong! Regarding the January MCAT though, do any of you know what happens if I apply right now to US DO and the Big 4 Caribbean with my current MCAT score but then take the January 2013 also (in which I will undoubtedly do better)? Like, would it just be an "update" to my application or would I have to apply all over again? Meaning, if I applied and got denied with my current MCAT (24S, so it's not AWFUL), would I have to wait until the next application process to apply again with the January score? Or can I "update" my application? Rolling admissions makes it a little confusing, I hope someone understands what I'm trying to say 🙂 I'm battling between just applying with this score and hoping I get in verus waiting for a better score to secure a spot and keep the less impressive score from hurting my application (though I guess it's never really guaranteed).

The latest MCAT score they accept is September, that being said I'm in your shoes. I applied with a horrid score and whenever I get my score I'll update the schools that haven't already rejected me. Keep in mind most schools would have finished interviewing (at least for MD) by the time we get our scores back.

For those taking / retaking the MCAT in January, as you know the writing section is erased. The optional section (which I believe is administered at the end) is based on 2015 material. The compensation for taking the optional section is a gift card (not sure what kind).

Also the score turn around will still be 30-35 days from your exam date. Registration calendar will be posted roughly next month and will be VERY similar as this year.

I am also on the retaking boat for the January 2013.
Using a combo of S2ned's Schedule & Suggested materials, Chads Videos and Confidence to crack the code. Good Luck everyone.

I'm starting officially Monday. Anyone just starting to prepare?

Started already. Going to be taking a full load this fall so I really need to keep up. BTW what is chads videos?

So for everyone who is studying for the January MCAT, do you guys want to set up some Skype sessions in the near future? We could organize to ask specific questions and help each other out.

How does that sound?

Sigh... I'm joining this thread now after choking on my exam yesterday -__-... Dammit. This is going to suck having to do school + clinical research, I sacrificed my whole summer for yesterday's exam too, fml 🙁..

Really pissed I missed some completely left field discrete questions on BS and PS was not as easy as the normal AAMC practice exams.

So what's everyone's study plan? I'm going to end up doing EVERY single kaplan Q-bank question available to me and an old TPR science workbook + workout book and probably Examkrackers this time around. At least I have my content review down..

I'm still mad about yesterday's exam -_- I was scoring average 34 and then just totally choked yesterday...

hey, a lot of people say they don't feel well about the exam and end up doing great on it! don't give up hope yet until you get the exam back 🙂

I am thinking about taking a class but I am not sure which one. I was looking into TPR's class online. Anyone done this one?

Anyone interested in forming a study group ( I don't care if it is just one person!)? I am starting from scratch.. It is all about clearing the concepts and then a lotta practice questions and passages. Like I said before I was really thinking about a prep class but I don't have the funds. I have all the books I need, I just need structure, support, motivation, sense of accountability, competition and someone who can make me feel guilty lol. Anyone in the same boat?

I would love to join... it would be nice.... I defiantly need the support and motivation.

I'm interested in joining a study group. This will be my first time taking the test, but I've postponed it three times already! I just knew I wasn't ready.

Hey everyone, also taking in january (probably first or second test offered). Was gonna take sept 11 but some things came up this summer--got too caught up with work, but mostly I was just being extremely lazy.

Anyways, I'm following sn2ed's study schedule (4 month). I'm about two weeks in right now. I wan't to finish his schedule a little bit early so I can cram in as many TBR, PR, Kaplan, AAMC, etc exams as I can before the test date.

When exactly will AAMC release the 2013 dates again?

I thought it was the first week of October, but can't remember for sure now.

Anyone studying along with taking a full course load this semester? Im having a really hard time keeping up with my prep along with studying for my classes.

Planning on retaking in January since my last score was bad 23O(9ps/6v/8bs).

I'm going to use the tpr mcat live online this time around since I think my problem was the lack of structure on myself. Hopefully it works out this time around.

I'm taking 17 hours of science courses as well as working.

It's extremely tough, but it needs to be done. I've fallen behind, but have worked really hard to dig myself out almost completely.

What I plan on doing from here on out is literally tackling what I'm covering in class that night, so the material doesn't accumulate as much. As for work ... well I'm just going to try to take on less hours.

My Kaplan course starts back up on 9/26. That's a godsend especially when you're busy. It keeps you grounded and honest to a schedule. Would recommend if you have the means. 👍

Also, please accept the fact that your life is over this semester. I simply stopped counting the hours that I put into everything each week, as it's quite depressing. I estimate I spend 30 hours/week on school, 30 hours/week working, and 25 hours/week MCAT prep. Some weeks that school work shoots up into 40+ hours, so just shut up and do it is my philosophy.

I will be taking it in Jan as well. Have not started studying yet but TBR just cashed my check, so books should be showing up at home in a few weeks.

I'll have lighter than normal schedule at school and will be working part time as well. For now, it feels like I have a lot of time to procrastinate. :meanie:

Yes, best news ever! :highfive:

Now that's a lot more :bang:-inducing.

Are you taking/retaking in January?

I'm going to start my studying for my retake tonight. I'm going to post my stuff here to hold myself accountable for studying since I think that was my downfall last time. My TPR online class starts in 10/22 so I'm going to start right now doing EK and see how far I can get with that. Good luck everyone!

We might be in the same course; are in the online course that starts at 10 am?

Man, I'm drowning.

Really having a hard time keeping up with classes, and I haven't even started studying in depth that much yet. Work has been hectic, though, so I'm going to reduce that significantly.

My Kaplan course starts a week from today. Without that structure, I think it would be near impossible to study efficiently for this test without skipping a couple days here and there. I more or less have at least two tests per week.

Did you take a course the first time or self study?

I disagree.

I used to enjoy the nap I got during the writing section, where I could really recharge my battery before the bio catastrophe.

Now BS is right after VR, and I anticipate that this will feel like being hit by a truck during the last section.

I'll certainly have to account for this during full length practice.

lol! So I'm assuming the optional portion is at the end then?
