Hey there everyone! Figured I'd start this thread since I recently started preparing for the June 18th MCAT. For those of you who are taking the June 2nd MCAT, June 18th MCAT, or still considering one of those two dates, feel free to post here with any questions, comments, concerns, or support you have to offer!

Good luck to you all! Let's crush it.

Underrepresented applicant

Overall score on MCAT: 516

PS- 127
CARS- 127
BB- 132
PS-130

I am happy about my score, but worried about the imbalance. Any suggestions?
There is no imbalance as long as you are not under 125 your'e fine plus 127 is the old 10 which is fine for any school. Also depending on what URM community you are a part of you can pretty much apply to any school. I would post in the WAMC forum to get some feedback on a school list, also invest in MSAR as well.

I am an African American woman. My dream school is Washington University in St. Louis. Hopefully I have a shot with a 516 and a 3.93 science GPA.

Congrats everyone!!! I wish my power hadn't gone out and I was able to see my score today. It's so hard waiting, especially since I felt I did horrible. It seems a lot of people here walked out feeling good, which obviously doesn't bode well for me. I don't know what i'll do if I get a 507 or below. It's my second time taking it, and the fact that I studied for months and would get below a 30 would be devastating. I'm sure people get in with sub 30s but they have to have like a 3.9-4.0 gpa. My 3.7 isn't gonna cut it. I don't think I can deal with this test a third time- especially since I don't know what else to study and because it's getting harder each month from what i've heard.
I'm also hesitant to just apply DO and not worry about my score, because from what some DO adcoms are saying, after the merge, a lot of fellowships and specialties that were reserved for DO's are going to go to MD. Idk, I have a feeling I did horrible, and the fact that I felt good at CARS does not bode well for me, considering what other people who felt they did well in CARS got. Oh well.

If you have solid EC's then with that GPA and MCAT not only will you get in but you will also get a hefty scholarship, maybe even a full ride or full tuition. post here http://forums.studentdoctor.net/forums/what-are-my-chances.418/ to get feedback

I am not applying till next year and am also taking the MCAT next year, I am also URM and an AA male and I hope to achieve a score similar to you. This post will help serve as motivation haha. Best of luck in your cycle it should be great🙂

@plasmodium_rules also http://forums.studentdoctor.net/thr...plication-thread.1197746/page-5#post-17910194 That thread is for URM's applying this year if you would like to join for solidarity purposes and to help future URM's see how a cycle plays out for someone with your caliber of stats.

Thanks. Today has definitely been a great day. And best of luck to you as well next cycle. Hope you kill the MCAT!!

@Scrubs101 Did you find your Psych section pretty easy? I thought that was surprising! Congrats!! You are gonna get in a great med school!

In all honest part of me thought I had gotten close to a 100% on psych boy was I wrong. I thought I had destroyed it, clearly I'm horrible at guessing how I did. But thank you! I hope so!

Considering I felt like I did great on CARS and Psych, I am dreading my scores.

Guys, SERIOUS question, NOT trolling: can I bring a quarter-zip (pull over) sweater to the MCAT? My friend took May 20th and brought a full zip and he had to either wear it or put it on the back of his chair, but it wasn't an issue. I'm wondering if a pull over will be an issue? Most of my sweaters are either sweatshirts or quarter zips:/
Sorry if this sounds crazy but i just cant take the MCAT cold. or too hot. I'm nervous enough as is LOL.

When in doubt, call your testing center. Couldn't tell you for sure.

I think it depends on the testing center. At mine, they told everyone to leave their jackets and sweaters in the locker. Only a pant and a shirt are allowed in the testing room lol. Either call your testing center or just bring one. The worst thing that they will do is ask you to put it in your locker.

Where are you getting that you have to have a 3.9-4.0 with a sub 30/508 MCAT. If you look at AAMC's table A-24, there are literally thousands of people who get accepted with GPAs below 3.9 and an MCAT below 508. It is incredibly difficult to get a 3.9+ with a 508+ MCAT, and given the vast number of med schools in the US, you can absolutely get in.

Hey! I totally agree people do get in, but as 1) an ORM 2) not super sgpa (not bad but not super) it will be harder. A lot of those lower gpas plus sub 30 mcat scores come from state schools that have lower averages, and mission based med schools. That's why i'm saying it can be harder for the average candidate.

@MI2015
I thought cars and psych were both much more convoluted, but it could've been my nerves. I think it's so hard to predict scores based on feelings, from what I've been reading.

Lol don't worry. I had the C/P from hell, and apparently biology was the "easiest thing ever" when I thought it was on par with the scored/section bank, but wasn't bad. Idk, i'm stressed. But so happy for everyone!

I thought the same thing too! You're not alone!

I wasn't trying to be rude, sorry if it came across that way. I just wanted to clarify for some people that haven't done as much research as others, that just because you don't have a 3.9+ and a 508+ doesn't mean you can't get in to med school. I have neither a 3.9 nor a 508 and still feel confident about my chances, I just wanted to make sure others didn't get confused that's all

EDIT: I'm also applying reasonably and to schools that my stats fit. I know I have no chance at the Harvard level med schools, but if you apply intelligently then I think a lot of people have a chance depending on their ECs and other aspects of their applications.

Yeah that sounds about right. I had the c/p from hell. Thought cars was tougher than usual, thought b/b was okay and the most comparable to aamc materials, and then thought p/s was just weird and convoluted.

No worries! I didn't take you as being rude🙂 And I didn't mean to say you can't get in. My post was long bc I hadn't posted anything earlier. I think I've started to believe in the SDN hype about having have a 4.0/520+ to get into med school haha
If you don't mind me asking, how did you do today?

When you say okay do you mean like average? Cause I think I marked like 10, but didn't think it was too bad. The problem is that normally I breeze through the first few passages, but on the exam the first passage for me was the hardest and I'm so frustrated because I think it was meant to be easy.

I got a 504, and as a nontraditional my strongest category was CARS which reading through here seems to be contrary to everyone else haha. It was one of those scores that I was afraid of... right in the middle of good and bad. The rest of my application is strong though so I won't retake it this cycle. I would be ecstatic with either an allopathic or osteopathic school. The 2 letters after my name don't matter to me, as long as I have a chance to earn Dr. in front.

I don't really remember specifics, but I remember the difficulty feeling on par with the aamc FL. I remember thinking most discretes weren't bad. There were a couple of tougher passages but overall I felt it was the most comparable to practice aamc material of all sections. I usually do my best in cars and p/s though, so the fact that I felt they were tougher than usual when most think they weren't bad is messing with my head.

I thought the same thing, I marked <5 questions on psych, and then it ended up being my worst section. I marked 15+ in every other section.

Yes I got a 510....more embarrasing that i got a 506...cars was my lowest section....by far...which was surprising because it was one of my highest scores on practice

Would you mind posting your score breakdown? And you did great, and I'm sure you'll get in a great school!

Do you think your Psycho section was just super easy and the curve was harsh?
hehe psycho

Either it was super easy with a harsh curve, or I was deliriously tired at that point and ready to get out. Probably a little of both, I know there were no terms in there that I hadn't seen before, and I don't have a psych background. I blazed through it, I think I had the whole section done, and reviewed my answers in less than 40 minutes.

Oh haha 😛
That makes me so nervous, since I was counting on CARS and psych to bring my score up. I was very tired that section as well.

The two most unpredictable sections lol. Though I can usually gauge how well I do on PS, I cannot do that for CARS.

Well I felt great during the exam, but everyone that felt great on CARS ended up doing their worst in that section. So there's that hahah

That means I should expect a low score since I felt good on 3 of the 4 sections lol.

Idk why I said I felt great during the exam. I felt good on everything besides C/P. And idk just with CARS it seems to be weird if you feel good. I could be wrong though haha. Just wish we got our scores now!
Didn't you think the test was fair though? The fact that you felt pretty good during the test should be a good sign. Most people had one horrible section. The fact you had none is great!

Nah I'm sure you're good since you did well on practice tests. I felt like the aamc scored felt fair and I felt good throughout and ended up doing well. I felt terrible throughout the real thing and expect to do at least 5 points below my practice.

Hi everyone - especially those still waiting for their scores. I took the June 2 test and didn't feel great walking out. I spent the whole month stressing about my score. I ended up getting a 516, which was 3 points higher than what I got on the scored AAMC full length. So my point is that things work out! Congratulations to all those who took the June 2 MCAT and good luck to all those still waiting for their scores!

I hope so. I am getting more antsy each day lol. It seems like as the day approaches, I become more uncertain about our performance. I just hope that my assessment after the test was correct.

Maybe there was some sort of killer scale on it? I don't even think I did much guessing at all on that section, guess I knew a lot less than I thought I did. Idk either way I'm quite salty

This 100x over. I scored a 126 on P/S after consistently scoring 128+ on AMCAS scored FL and practice test (using equivalency tables), and then 13o+ on EK short exams. I heard about EK massively underselling many concepts two weeks prior to the exam but had to commit my time to other weaknesses, and honestly wasn't worried given my substantial humanities background. I felt like many of the questions were not representative of my preparation but still felt confident and was shocked to find that I scored a 126.

Honestly what ****ed me over was CARS....I didn't even break 50th percentile and if I had even hit 50th percentile my score woulda been a 508 and I woulda felt a lot happier....but I'm not gonna retake cuz f that. Hopefully my score will be enough for M.D. schools.

Which is honestly very surprising considering I was doing really well on the CARS practice...I guess that stupid ship passage really threw me off.

Yeah I'm right there with you on that one :/ got a 124 in CARS, I was averaging about 126. So I pessimistically was expecting a 125(hoping a 130 in psych would bump it up), but I guess I wasn't pessimistic enough lol. 49th percentile CARS , I already know I'm gonna get screened at a lot of places. My DO list went from 15-25 within minutes of seeing my score lol. My C/P and B/B where exactly what I expected though. Guess it's just really hard for me to gauge P/S and CARS.

I mean I feel like the thing is that we have a MCAT score old of approximately 29....which is not a bad score. I spoke to an admissions officer and he said for his med school anyways, that our score was a solid one so idk...
