Hey there everyone! Figured I'd start this thread since I recently started preparing for the June 18th MCAT. For those of you who are taking the June 2nd MCAT, June 18th MCAT, or still considering one of those two dates, feel free to post here with any questions, comments, concerns, or support you have to offer!

Yes, in relation to membranes. So glad that I've been bombarded with all these unfamiliar terms in prep!

Higher energy electrons go first, which relates to the "n" number. So 4s gets eliminated before 3d in some of those tricky electron configurations

Wait, I thought according to Aufbau's principle 3d is higher in energy than 4s. So the electrons in the d orbital would go first. Did I get this concept wrong? 🙁

Do you know a quick way to solve heredity questions? For example, if the mother is BBTT and the father is bbTt what's the percentage of brown eyes big teeth in the first generation?

There was a similar question in the scored AAMC exam.
 
If anyone in this thread has heard of a "lipid raft" before you took AAMC Scored, I'll call you a liar...

I actually had, but I've also done research for many years and done immunofluorescence microscopy for a receptor found in lipid rafts... I couldn't believe when that question popped up- like I never would have seen that in class! I thought the mcat was supposed to test "beginner biology, chemistry, etc".

UPDATE: Mine and @wannabedrneez test tomorrow is officially cancelled 🙁 Not sure whether to be relieved or frustrated lol.

Hmmm.
Per EK, "For transition metals, ions are formed by losing electrons from the subshell with the highest principle quantum number first. Generally this is the s-subshell".
I guess this makes sense to me, because it takes more energy to pull on the 4 subshells further away than it does the 3 subtle.

I tend to do 1 trait at a time Ex: I would cross BB with bb and find the percent of whatever they were asking and then cross the other ones and find the percent of whatever they are asking for that, and then use those percents to find the answer.

NSFL5: 504 (126/125/126/127) -- really not too worried about this, not a terrible score at all, but I would've liked a 506. That P/S section was pretty left-field. And I got boned by physics in C/P 😛 My B/B score went up though which is what I studied over the last couple days. There was only like 1 hormone question on the whole test... sigh. Really hate how I can know some things so well and then not get tested on them at all!
 
Im done reviewing for the day, so to take my mind off tomorrow's game, I went to the art museum. Good idea, right?

Theres a giant CONCAVE MIRROR right outside the museum. There was a plaque talking about the different types of radiation. Then I ran into my Kaplan instructor, who was proud I wasn't cramming like the other kids.

Not only have I heard of it, but I got in to an argument with my cell bio professor about it because she put two right answers on an exam question about lipid rafts and refused to acknowledge it

I would also like to thank the MCAT for giving me more nosebleeds in 2 weeks than I have ever had in my previous 27 years of life.
 
That awkward moment when you miss every single question from a kinematics passage in C/P. 😛 Oops... Probably should make sure I have physics stuff down so my C/P doesn't drop like a rock on test day.
 
I feel the exact same. Trying to eat dinner but feel really nauseous and keep googling random stuff that I keep thinking of that I know I'll never remember. I hate this. 🙁
Yepppp! I have my quicksheets but then I just get sad because I feel like I don't know any of them.
 
Real is always inverted, virtual is always upright. If magnification is positive, the image will always be upright. For everything else, just rewriting the stuff will help consolidate the information...here is how I remember:

Concave mirrors:
--Object beyond focal point: ILRS (inverted, larger, real, image formed same side as object)
--At focal point: no image
--In front of focal point: ULVO (upright, larger, virtual, image formed opposite side as object)

Convex mirrors:
--Object placed anywhere: USVO (upright, smaller, virtual, image formed opposite side as object)

ConVEX lenses have the same rules as concave mirrors (because they are both converging), except switch the side for image formed (last letter).
ConCAVE lenses have the same rules as convex mirrors (because they are both diverging), except switch side for image formed (last letter).
I just want to point out something,
For the concave mirror, if the object is beyond the focal point the image is SMALLER not larger.
Here is how I remember these: the concave mirror is the makeup mirror so if you are close to it the image is (upright, larger, virtual, same side)
The convex mirror is used in stores to prevent shoplifting so the image is (Smaller, virtual, upright, opposite side)

Is NS1 just really easy? Because I'm definitely not a 515 kind of scorer, yet I got a 514 yesterday.
 
My take on mirrors / lenses, which was one of the trickiest topics to get down IMO. I try to memorize the least amount that I can and be able to derive everything from a core set of equations.

Memorize 1/i + 1/o = 1/f, m = -i / o, and that o is always positive.

For concave mirrors and convex lenses use +f. (both converging)
For convex mirrors and concave lenses use -f. (both diverging)

Plugging into the thin-lens and magnifications above will give all the other information about real / virtual / upright / and inverted.

you can

BUT
you can't take it off during the test. it's on or not at all in the room

Some testing centers allow you to take it off, as long as you drape it behind the chair, at least that's what my June 2nd did.
 
Lol that moment when your test is cancelled at 4:30pm the day before and now you're driving two hours away from home to the last minute hotel you had to book so you can still take it on the OG day you planned... :panda:

How come you have to go to the hotel since your exam was cancelled?
 
well now i'm just going to go back to the PS notes that was made on the guideline and study off of it there.

And re-read some high yield topics


And I hope my testing center did not cancel... I recently changed my phone so I originally had my old phone number when I signed up 🙁

Oh and super quick, this isn't quite right. If the object is beyond 2x the distance of the focal length (C), then the image will be inverted, real, on the same side, but smaller, not larger.
