**Official Maryland Class of 2021 Interview/Acceptance Thread**

For everyone who just got an acceptance who was your interviewer
 
Anybody know how Maryland's adcom sends out batches of post interview acceptances? will everyone from one interview date be considered at the same time if there are a handful of different interviewers that interviewed people that particular day? So if 15 people interviewed on January 12 and were interviewed by one of four or five interviewers, would this group of 15 all be considered at the same time by the said amount of interviewers? or can some people in that group of 15 be expected to hear back in later batches than some based upon who interviewed them? is it dependent upon when the individual interviewer sends their recommendations in for consideration? or do all the interviewers send their recommendations for one interview group date at the same time?
 
one more thing: for those who just got invited for interviews, when is your February interview date

Really I don't think anyone on here will know the answer to this question but I can say that the people accepted yesterday were not all interviewed by the same interviewer

Like stated above, this last batch of acceptances were not from the same interviewer and they were all from various interview dates. So from my understanding the committee reviews all possible applications each time they meet in addition to the latest ones received. I'm sure however they handle it, everyone is considered so don't lose hope! There is still plenty of time!!
 
Accepted on 1/20 (Fri)!!! Saw the email around 2 pm and just couldn't believe I got into my dream school!! Btw, interviewed on 1/10 (Tue)
 
1. Can anyone comment on how acceptances are handed out post-interview? If you had a decent interview experience can you expect to hear back with good news at some point, stats aside? Or are acceptances post-interview solely based on ranking stats with the interview not counting for much?

2. Furthermore, if you were interviewed already (my date was 1/17) and a batch of acceptances for your interview date were already sent out, how likely are you to receive acceptance now that interviewees from your interview date have already been accepted? I was interviewed on 1/17 and it seems like people from that group and from 1/10 and 1/11 were handpicked and chosen for acceptance.... Does that mean they forgot about the rest of us in those January interview date groups and threw the rest of us away? There isn't much help on this in previous forums for Maryland so I thought I would post here and see if somebody knows anything at all about this issue. Do they seriously keep reconsidering people from past interviews as time and new interview dates go by? Can I personally or can anyone else from the January groups personally and realistically expect to hear back and receive a future acceptance with the upcoming new interviews being handed out?

3. Can anybody account for how many members of the Facebook group are CURRENT vs. NEWLY ACCEPTED students? There are 92 members and it looks like more than 20 are current students.

4. And does anyone know when the next round of acceptances can be expected? I have heard sometime end of this month but that's fast approaching this week on Friday. Or is it more likely to happen the first week in February?

5. Lastly can anyone who is a current student speak on the number of acceptances handed out in each batch of acceptances sent? Do they send out 10, 20, or 30 at one time?

PS: is anyone who recently got accepted thinking of declining acceptance?

A1. Well, I don't think any of us really knows how the admission process is handled. But I think how you perform during your interview is as much important or even more important than your stats.
A2. For your second question, Maryland does consider everyone they interviewed throughout the cycle. I know someone who got interviewed in Jan and got accepted in March and May. So try not to stress out too much and keep waiting. No bad news is good news!!
A3. Can't really help you with this...
A4. There may be another batch mid next month because the first deposit for the 1/20 batch is due and some people might choose not to do it.
A5. Can't really help you with this...
 
3. There are currently 92 people in the group and you are right that 20ish are current students. The admin Alexandra is a D3 and heavily involved in organized dentistry, especially Maryland ASDA. She is a decent contact if you have questions IRL

Well yeah it's not pre-December, but by no means it is "late". People get interviews/accepted in March, April, maybe even May. If you get an interview, you have your chance. I would recommend not thinking about how "late" or "early" your interview date is. Think about now that you have your chance and how you are going to nail it. Be prepared and be positive. If you don't get an acceptance within 10 days of your interview does that mean you are unlikely to be accepted? Seems like on previous threads for past years if you don't get accepted in the batch right after your interview, you don't get accepted at all.

You're always still in it until they reject you. No point in worrying about it right now

God I dear hope so. Do you have any idea if they email you the rejection ? or should I be checking my mailbox every day for next couple months?

You should find a hobby to distract yourself so that you only think about this once a day at the most and let things happen as they happen.

Schools sometimes wait until June to send you a rejection and I hope to God you don't plan on worrying about it that long.

Stay positive and trust in the process (no im not a 76ers fan)

Exactly!! No bad news is good news!! Also, send an email to the admission office expressing how much you want to attend UMB. Or even call the office if you feel comfortable doing so. The truth is that dental schools (at least for UMB) NEED to fill their roster no matter what for every class. So they are more likely to consider you if they think that you will definitely come if they accept you.

If you're thinking of sending something like this, I advise you to wait. It hasn't been that long since the January interviews occurred and it really doesn't make sense to send it this early on when they may still be considering people for the next acceptance set. UMBToothfairy has even said it before...Squeaky wheel gets replaced in this scenario. First deposits for the December acceptances were due 1/16 so there are likely more spots to be filled, and there are likely more spots to be filled from the January 20th group as well since not everyone will accept that offer. I would wait at least until it has been over a month to send any type of correspondence. Sending a letter expressing your want to attend really comes off as begging for a spot.

I meant to say trying to send an email expressing your desire to attend after 4 to 6 weeks of not hearing back from the school after interview. If you still haven't heard back in April or May, it is fine to actually call and ask nicely about your application status. I personally KNOW someone who got admitted because he/she did exactly this. Of course you don't want to do it too often, but do it at least once to show them you are interested and will attend if given a chance. At the end of the cycle, the school just want to fill the last few spots with someone who will definitely come. These are just my opinions and do what you think is right. Relax and don't get discouraged. It's still early.

Agreed. Waiting over a month is best. Calling or writing letters now will come off as desperate and pushy. It has after all been only two weeks since the first January interviews occurred.
 
Question: I was initially going to take microbio and human anatomy and physiology because they were prereqs for a lot of the other schools I was applying to. So I listed these courses as planned coursework on my AADSAS, but now that I've been accepted to maryland, I don't need these courses anymore. If I cancel the coursework, is there any penalty?

Nah, it should be fine. I would still play it safe and call and ask admissions first before you withdraw from the courses

I am in the exact same position as you with the same courses (though I haven't been accepted anywhere yet) and there were some schools who asked me to not change my courses while some others were perfectly fine with it so definitely ask

Has anyone's academic updates posted with verified GPA yet? Mine is taking forever to post and I sent it before I even got interviewed. Does Maryland see the academic update when it posts

If you are referring to the AADSAS AU than it's different, a quick search would revealed to you that some folks here got it verified while others are still waiting. After it gets verified AADSAS sends it out to all the schools you designated, Fridays from what I noticed.
No idea how they work there but you could always call the school and ask if they want you to sent it them or if they received it after you know AADSAS verified it.

Do we need to have our transcripts forwarded to the school even if we havent been in school since before we submitted our transcripts on aadsas?

Why don't you ask admissions when you call to ask them about withdrawing from those courses you mentioned? 😉

But no, if nothing has changed from the transcript submitted on AADSAS then I don't think you need to

It was interesting, it was different since a third was listed questions, third conversational and a third questions that I had. I think it was pretty good but walking in the streets to and from the school from the hotel definitely made me think if I want to live in Baltimore with my family...
School is very impressive and great program so if I get in it will be almost impossible to decline it over the other schools...

Hahaha I had this question after I already called them about that. I didn't want to call them twice in an hour:laugh:

Update: hehe just called them back a couple hours later:laugh: you do need to send in a final transcript regardless!

One more time for those in the back. Seriously guys, IT WILL BE OKAY 🙂 Just be patient. Watch netflix. Read a book. Hang out with your friends or make new ones. No matter what happens, breathe because you will be okay. Some of the best people in my class were rejected 4 times before they got in and now they are killing it in school. Be the little engine that could, but DO NOT continuously call or email the school. And don't be surprised if they do not respond. It's like a thank you note, no reason to keep replying.
 
Did anyone else get an email from UMB to activate a student ID on MyUMB before getting an admission letter?
Im confused. I received this email from the school to activate a student ID but it said it wasnt an admission letter!

Yes I interviewed on Jan 11th. and I received the email on Monday!! Im so confused the email clearly states that its not an admission letter but its a full student UMID account! like I have access to everything even blackboard!

I might be a bit optimistic but there's a decent chance you'll get an acceptance email tomorrow or whenever the next batch of acceptances go out. Don't take my word for it though, the admissions office is really unpredictable. Good luck

Interview invite today for feb 15th, from Canada. Submitted secondary august 22nd, finally lmao

Same here, I also received that same email. It definitely cannot be a bad sign.
