I liked the NICU. If stuff comes up like art lines, LPs, etc, you'll probably be given the chance to do them. I also saw a whole bunch of random stuff like ALS, Rasmussen's syndrome, and the effects of vasospasm after an ICH.

I second NICU...and the attendings rock 👍

Seppuku is ritual suicide by disembowelment. Neuro was not my favorite.

VA for neuro is easy cheesy if you can get it (they only take 2) -- I think they do it first-come first-served, so you're probably out of luck if they've already sent out the e-mail. I was on consults, and it was super light and easy, but that can vary depending on the attending running consults in a given week.

Sorry, it was there. I'm easily distracted by shiny things.

We were actually talking about you at dinner last night, discussing what we remembered about first year. You sleeping and a certain unnamed couple cuddling DURING lecture were tied for number one. Material from the classes, not so much.

So I ranked all my tracks for M3, but when do we apply for electives? I'm looking to do emergency medicine for my elective, and I would really like to get it.

You apply for electives after the core tracks are assigned. The lottery for electives gives priority to people who went down lower on their preference list for the core track, so if you get your first choice track you'll be less likely to get the elective that you want (assuming that other people on your track will also want the elective you're going for.)

I was about to type good luck, babe... scratch that.

CONGRATULATIONS! How does it feel?

It feels great, but also a bit unnerving.

Because shortly after getting the match results, I realized that I start my surgical internship in just over five months. Which is scaring the bejeezus out of me right now.

Oh yeah, also, my motivation to do anything for the next few months has hit an all time low.

How's the wife feel? Ecstatic, I presume.

Do you know the results of the other early match folks? Inquiring minds want to know.

Oh yeah, and I have jack motivation even without the Match. March 21, I'm officially turning into a pumpkin. Midway through my medicine sub-I.

Strong work, Don. It'll be good to have you around in case of any *ahem*...doodad emergencies.

Gwen is at Mayo Scottsdale.

Khahn matched with me at MCW.

Not sure about Aaron, but I'm trying to find out.

Not sure about the San Franscisco match folks, though.

When was the last time MCW had a full class of MCWers? It's been a while... as I recall, the only MCW grad in the program is my buddy, Mike Matteucci. Love him.

That's all fantastic news. Yay! So happy for you!

I'm not sure it's ever happened, at least since See has been chair.

I suppose you two are just too much rock for just one spot, then.

I'm ridiculously happy for you, hon.

Two months for Matt, me, and everyone else. JOY.

When the dust settles, I'll be the last one standing, even if I have to Tonya Harding all those Nancy Kerrigans.

I'd be really bummed if I couldn't get an EM rotation.

Put down the controller, and step away from Call of Duty 4.
I'm sitting at school right now gazing into space. Half an hour of pharm is enough to induce some serious fatigue.

In other news, I'm already a first lieutenant, and I've racked up over 1800 kills. And I'm a monster with a grenade launcher. It was a mad dash with a lot of these weapons to acquire enough kills to get all the goodies, but I think I'm going to start playing more team deathmatches. Free-for-alls are just ridiculous. You go on a killing spree, knifing and shooting your way to the top, and suddenly someone spawns on the staircase behind you and blows you away. And you can't get as many points from calling in an airstrike when everyone's widely dispersed. The graphics are simply mind-blowing though. I got a pretty nice video card (8600GT, for $100), and I can turn on every one of the graphics features. When you walk past a burning car, you can see the ripples from the heat waves. Despite all that, the gameplay is even better, and the maps are quite a step up from the CoD2 maps, which were pretty basic.

Mozarella Mondays are great. Mmmmm... those mozarella sticks + marinara sauce are amazing.

I still maintain pharm is fun, and in general, I enjoyed studying for it. It's also one class that I wanted to go to even when I wasn't doped up after surgery (the other class was micro). I wish I had learned the antimicrobials better, though.

Yeah For Donnyfuego!!!

Are they offering EM now in 3rd year?

Good luck in the lottery!

priapism; is there an equivalent in the xx half of our kind?

I suppose that's a question directed (generally) at me. Short answer: no.

Ah, those were the days, when Captain Kirk was hot.

And people watched that show why?

I think I've only seen William Shatner in Priceline commercials. At least I don't have to look him up now (thanks to MST3K: The Movie).

at the time (read: at the TIME) that show was revolutionary!!

This video entertained me when I woke up at 3am and couldn't go back to sleep. I also have a stupid heart case today. Cardiac surgery = major snooze fest. Fortunately, the Foo Fighters are not.

And here's one of the coolest music videos just because.

try sitting in on a fistula creation...those are boring as heck. Luckily not as long as cardiac surgery, usually.
