After spending so much time doing questions for CK this month, all I can think about when I watch this video is how this kid is going to get Nursemaid's Elbow or Klumpke's Palsy.

So last night, at like 7:15, I got an interview to UA. Weird since it was 5:15 in Tucson and all those offices were always good about closing shortly before 5pm.

Yay! I'll be in Tucson 12/12, since I can't physically make it there from Pittsburgh after my 12/4 interview. That means I have to miss the Arizona/ASU game on 12/6.

I now have more time to take off than is allotted during ambulatory medicine... oops.

Not sure if I'm going to keep my AZ/NM interviews yet. We'll see what happens in the next week or so now that MSPEs are out.
 
Arizona's awesome. When one of my friends interviewed there for anesthesia 2 years ago they asked if he thought he could handle the heat. Not sure what the program's like, but the Mexican food sure is good.
 
Speaking of Azirona...what is the word on the streets RE: Mayo Scottsdale's Anesthesiology program?

Not really sure...I don't think it has the reputation of being a super-strong place to do residency, but it does carry the Mayo name so that has to help. If you do your residency in Rochester, you can do month-long rotations at the sites in Scottsdale and Jacksonville. That would be nice during the winter.

Holy crap, I think I remember this from when I applied, but I forgot that they only take 3 residents! Guess I should thank my lucky stars I got an interview!
 
I was walking my dog just now and saw two ambulances race through our neighborhood and stop at a house down the road from me. For about a millisecond, I entertained the idea of seeing if they could use my help. Then I thought about how utterly useless I would be to an ALS crew (or BLS for that matter)....then I thought about how I'm not going to feel any different 6 months from now when I have initials behind my name.

My dad had me go with him to a thing in LAX when they called for a doctor. It was some baby who wasn't breathing (but she really was, but just shallowly), then a pediatrician came up, said the kid was fine.

yeah, I would never even consider stopping when they already have personnel on hand, but if I were the first on scene, I might stop. Apparently Dr. Derse intubated a patient at the airport once. He was one of the first on scene, used the AED, and when the paramedics arrived, he was the one to intubate (he is an ER doc though).

Most of EMS is about having the right equipment.

Vacation feels odd now.

I should probably start studying.

I finally got around to watching Reservoir Dogs. I expected to at least partially enjoy it, but found it to be utterly crapful. Pulp Fiction was pretty good...this...was not.

I studied like crap this last month (not technically on vacation, but almost with how light my schedule was). Don't fall into the same trap as me! I'm only going to have about 58% of USMLE World finished before my test on Wed.

You know what sucks, studying for CS that I have to take tomorrow. Gimlet, aren't you taking it tomorrow, too?

I also need to register for CK. I bought my USMLEWorld in July and used it twice. I guess I should start studying and register sometime, but I'm taking it in January.

Good thing about it though, I get to miss a whole bunch of the election coverage on TV. Bad thing, because I'm stupid, I decided to fly back to WI on my birthday instead of hanging out with my friends in Orange that I've known since I was born. Could've been a nice stress reliever.

Look at it this way: at least you aren't taking CK the day after CS. :smack:
 
Good luck on those exams! I think I'll try to study really hard tomorrow so I can ignore all the election crap myself. And maybe get a haircut.

Got my first rejection today from Maine. oh well. 2 other offers earlier this morning made it better. I think I'm at my limit for how many interviews I do without going insane. Now it's just a matter of seeing if some others come along that are more enticing.
 
I have to take CK in CA now. No where I looked in the country was any date available in January before the 15th. So now I'm taking it 27 Jan... booo! Hopefully it'll be in between several CA interviews.
 
I have to get my USMLE World too. Probably later today. I have CK on the 25th. CS on dec 2. It's gonna suck trying to study. At my mom's this week. In NYC 8-12. Interview/dinner 14-15. My brothers got playoff football and the all-school play. I think there's a b-day party i need to attend. In DC 18-20. I think it's gonna be a weekend before exam push to learn stuff.

Vacation Nov, Dec, and Jan!!!!!

I just need to say this is the lamest birthday ever. It beat Tuesday 5 Nov 1996.

I've managed to get TWO rejections to schools where I actually wanted to interview.

It was another presidential election.

Considering I'm very conservative and John McCain is too liberal for me. It was 4 more years of someone. 😉

My birthday's lame on election day in 1998, I was 2 days too young to vote.

I'd much rather go to Brothers, but sadly I'm currently at an undisclosed location for an interview with an undisclosed program. And for some reason, I'm filled with a huge sense of wanting to go home right away, and I just got here.


The only highlight is that Jesus apparently signed the Gideon Bible in my room, because the inside cover has the following handwritten in it:

"To my friends and followers... Keep it real! --J. Christ"

I'm in South Carolina right now, then heading to North Carolina this weekend for Duke & UNC. No messages from Jesus in my hotel room, but they did throw in the Book of Mormon. I've never actually seen/read one before.

Cornell for me on Tues, then George Washington the next week. December will get pretty busy for me. Tried to save some time for CK studying this month.

Gimlet, I've always want to go to NC and SC. UNC rejected me, and I bet Duke's going to soon. Let me know what the states are like, I heard they're really nice.

Anyone interviewing a lot of places in the NE? I've got a rash of them there.

Charleston is absolutely beatiful, from what little I've seen. Great climate, too!

I have Dartmouth, U. of Vermont, and Maine Medical Center in the Northeast. That's all I applied to in that area.

For all of you who collect funny doctors' names...here's one that was born for anesthesiology: Dr. Peter Goodnight (he's a CA-2 at MUSC)
 
Holy crap. Peoria's program is actually really awesome. I suspect I will rank it well.
