Official MCW Class of 2009 Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
actually, I kind of like the LEDs that Bell has, plus their air horns are pretty wicked. Of course, I'll always be partial to the 9mm holes in the Curtis rigs. 😍

oh my gosh!!! 9mm? like bullets??? you guys got shot at?? weren't you ever scared, that's crazy!!!!

haha, and i love ghostbusters!!!

I took someone snipe hunting once. It wasn't in a real field though. It was just an area that hadn't been developed yet.

Cripes, I've been gone all day, and find that y'all have posted over 50 posts since my last visit. Wondering what the hell was going on. Then I actually read the posts. Genius work people.

BTW, you should add vancomycin to that ceftriaxone to have complete coverage of empiric therapy of meningitis. Jeez, everyone knows that.

At least that what I think he said.

This is random, and scary. So, since college, I've been using "would you rather" type things for away messages while studying for finals that usually involved would you rather watch a Land Before Time sequel or study. The one I used most recently used was:
Let's play a game "Would you rather?"
Would you rather:
A) Watch The Land Before Time XI: Invasion of the Tinysauruses?
B) Study for finals?
Guess what I'm doing. No dinosaurs involved. (It doesn't matter how good the first cartoon was -- Land Before Time does NOT deserve 10 sequels.)

I just checked IMDB to make sure that XI WAS the last movie, but no, they've got XII out (The Great Day of the Flyers).

I think I started making away messages like that at about #8.

As long as you acknowledge that the first one was the best. Ever.

You two keep your Land Before Time. I'll take Jurassic Park and the crappy sequels that followed any day of the week.

I've only cried in two movies ever.

Land Before Time when Little Foot's mom died, and the Lion King when Mufasa died.

I like Jurassic Park too. Basically, I like dinosaurs. Having studied the 1st 4 pharm lectures of block 1, maybe I should've stuck with my dream from 4-8 years old and been a paleontologist.

I saw Jurassic Park in theaters with my aunt (she's the "cool" aunt 😀) back in like '93. That movie is so awesome. I still can't tell that the Rex is CGI when it rips through the fence, and I think your PDAs have more computing power than most desktops from that era. Amazing.

So I'm at my early morning EMT refresher, and it turns out that MFD's most notorious is leading our session. Good times...

Indo, you killed the Donor forum.

I hate coming in the Allo class threads and finding this thread halfway down the page.

Studying for pharm is lamerz. Somebody (Don, Xandie?) help me procrastinate by telling me the settings we need to input to be able to check our MCW e-mail on those handy Wi-Fi loving Palm TX's the school "gave" us! C'mon...somebody has to know how. 😉

I know how to input e-mail info, I just need to know the specific information needed for our school's system. Same reason I've never been able to figure out how to set up the outlook webmail with the Microsoft Outlook on my computer--because MCW Information Services is too lazy to make some decent tutorials.

It is an open network but they don't broadcast their SSID.
If you know that then all you need is:
POP3
SETUP:
You will need the following information:
Username: your username
Password: your password
Incoming Mail Server (POP3): pop3.mcw.edu
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.mcw.edu

I think that is the info that Outlook needs to pull your email off the MCW server.

You are a golden god sir. I bow down before thee!

You'd think that they'd hand that kind of information out to you all when you got those.

Yeah, not so much. In fact, the biggest tech support we have available to us seems to be the librarians. Don't get me wrong, I like the MCW librarians...but I'm not sure they are the tech gurus we should be coming to for help.

that's only the outgoing SMTP server if you're on campus. from home, I have to use smtp-server.wi.rr.com (roadrunner)

School R fun. Chronic venous stasis ulcers, anyone?

School R fun. Chronic venous stasis ulcers, anyone?

You know, I was talking to a fellow M2 yesterday (not an SDNer) and we both agreed that we probably suffered from at least some mild clinical depression during points of the past year. That led me to start thinking about whether my M2 year was, in fact, the worst year of my life. I haven't come to the final conclusion yet, but I'm definitely not able to rule it out just yet. As soon as finals are over and I have time to think (and drink!) I'll let you guys know the final decision.

Don't worry though, lovely M1s...I'm sure you guys are less neurotransmitter-challenged than the ol' Funkster here.

Aren't you guys done yet? And somebody take the cell phone away from Marc.

I know that this past year wasn't the worst year of my life, because I actually got to see my wife on a daily basis. Any year that wants to claim the title will have to contend with the fall of '04. Not a fun time for me. Most challenging time of my life was probably the fall of '03. This year has been tough, but I think I was prepared for it.

I think it is a combo of the darkness during winter and school that does it. I spent the first 2 weeks of this term in bed...pretty miserable. My mom said I sounded depressed in emails I wrote. ha.

edit: oh yeah, i bought a full spectrum lamp and that seemed to help.

Not done by a long shot. Pharm final on Tuesday with Path on Thursday. If you can manage to get out of surgery on Thursday maybe we can give you the location of our supersecret celebration. 😉

I really should have thought about getting some new lamps/bulbs for seasonal affective disorder, because I think this year I probably had it going a little bit. My mood and energy level (even with finals and boards coming) has improved 1000x since the sun came back. Makes sense if it has any genetic component too, as my dad has suffered from some pretty bad SAD/insomnia during the winter months in years past.

Like Indo, I'm pretty sure my dad was worried about my mood this year. He's a social worker and every time we talked on the phone he would give me a nice long peptalk and implore me to take some time for my sanity.

I'm on call on Thursday... so there's that hurdle. Besides, being done on Thursday sounds pretty darn close to me!

So close, yet so far away.

On Thurs, I may be liable to get a public intoxication ticket walking my dog. And someone may have to pick me up and take me out in the evening, because I plan on drinking all day long.

And I think I'm in the early group for the path exam = more hours in the day to drink.

I forgot to say "no mushrooms" at Noodles. 🙁

That is an odd superstition.

They make a mediocre plate of pad thai there. Anyone know where I can get some excellent pad thai?

huh? I just don't like mushrooms, and had to pick out like 20 of 'em. What's the superstition?

I like their pad thai, but I guess I've never ordered it anywhere else. I need to branch out.

Ooooooh oooh! That means I'm probably in the early group as well. I can go home and pregame while Splat and Ashers take their exam. 😀

you bet!! I think we're early cuz it's an even numbered exam.

of course, if I want to be the early group, it may not happen. I hope I didn't just jinx us.

Assuming we're early the question becomes: do I pony up for Red Bull to mix with my jagermeister (shot of choice) while pre-gaming, or do I go straight up?

I'm leaning towards straight shots.

I say both. Have a continuous drink in your hand with regularly-timed shots.

...made by white high school kids in Wisconsin?

That's the answer of a pro. Mind if I hire you as my drinking coach?

Well, I've already got a pretty full roster of proteges, but I think I can fit you in. 😀

Fine, Splat, don't sit next to me. See if I care. 😡

Update: I'm sorry Splat. You're the light of my life. 😍

My brain is officially full. I think I've maxed out in life.

Wasn't that in a lecture last block? Can't remember. Something about a guy moving up to management, but he can't hack it. Thinks he has ADD or something. I feel like that guy. 🙁

Good luck tomorrow M2's.
You'll be fine.
:luck:

Thanks. We all know you're never wrong, so I'll take your word that we'll be okay. 😉

Either way, I'm grabbing some free munchies before the exam.
