Official MCW Class of 2009 Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
According to Facebook, this is what MCW listens to the most:

1 Weezer
2 Coldplay
3 Tool
4 Tom Petty
5 Toby Keith
6 John Mayer
7 Jack Johnson
8 Green Day
9 Eric Clapton
10 Counting Crows

I used to like Green Day, but other than that, I don't really listen to anything that is popular at our school, I guess...

Metallica should at least be in the top 10. Come on.

I don't post my music preferences on Facebook, but I'm betting not a lot of our class has Rockapella and the Nylons and Navan and Toxic Audio coming out of their speakers.

Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?

I have an explanation of what music I like. it does NOT include metallica. It does include the Beatles and John Denver.

And maybe Peter Paul and Mary except on the days they sound too self-righteous for me.

I would definitely agree on Metallica. Don't care as much for their most recent work though.

I heart Tool and Perfect Circle. 😍

And I like Weezer, but wouldn't put them #1.

The album St. Anger doesn't exist, as far as I'm concerned, haha. Master of Puppets, the black album, Garage Inc., and the S&M album are what I listen to the most.

After one week of getting up between 3:30 and 4am every morning, you'd think I'd be considering surgery less and less...not...more?

You do realize both Don and I are entering surgical subspecialties... after all the sage advice we've dispensed over the years, I'd like to think we're not both totally nuts.

I would love to see a list of what everyone's applying for. Class statistics are always interesting.

Heading home tonight! It's weird, but I miss Wisconsin. Okay, not really, I miss my cats, but still! For the next two weeks, I'll be hanging out in Curative. Anyone on Family feel free to stop by and visit my office. Fun times.

Who's dissing surgery? I'm having the most fun I've had so far, and working more than any rotation yet. However, the rotation where I worked the most was Psych/neuro.

I hope all your interviews went well. =)

At the peds orientation, they surveyed us on what we want to do. We had just finished our surgery months, so everyone should be really tired right. Well, apparently that doesn't seem to matter to people because 29% of our track chose surgery or surgery subspecialties. The peds person was very skeptical of our group. 2nd most was peds. Interestingly, not a single person chose internal medicine.

He joined the mass exodus from Normandy this summer. He's West Bend-ing it now, so he no longer hangs out with anyone.

Interesting...I don't know how I missed that. How are you liking it there, Splat? If we stay in SE Wisconsin, my wife and I are interested in eventually building somewhere up that way.

it sucks. there's nothing special about west bend.

No one was dissing it, I was just pointing out that there are lots of people who do like it, even after rotating through it. 🙂

Ashers, I had fun with you today in the Combative Ortho Patient room. I'll be at the Eye Institute tomorrow, so try not to get smacked around too much without me being there.

Oh, no, you can't just leave it like that. Tell the story!

Hahaha, that probably made it sound more dramatic than it was. Actually, I was the one that got closest to getting decked a couple of times. Both of the patients that Ashers' team operated on today were extremely combative when they were coming out of anesthesia...flailing arms, trying to pull out IV's, swearing and yelling. It was an interesting experience. I've spent 2.5 months so far this year in a surgical setting, and I haven't seen any patients with such violent emergences as these ones. I'm blaming it on the Orthos, and hoping it wasn't because I was there for the anesthetic!

My team performed a fairly urgent common fem endarterectomy today on a guy in his early 40's and he pulled the same crap on us when he was coming out. The anesthesia resident performing the case said that he wasn't sure why but it was pretty much established fact that youngish guys coming out of sedation were usually a handfull. He said trauma cases were especially bad.

If I recall correctly, it has something to do with the areas of the brain involved in impulse control coming out of anesthesia last. Same thing with induction, people can become very disinhibited and say/do things they otherwise wouldn't.

that explains at least half of my police record.

Awesome. Same thing with alcohol. I've had some drunk people tell me some very, very personal things.

Not only is my cat, Black Velvet, in kidney failure, and now she has to have some weird infusion every day, but Nestle had a stroke on Sunday, and my parents put him down. =( And Not Nestle was hit by a car earlier this year.

I'm so sorry. That's just too much at one time, and it's never easy at any time.🙁

Sorry Ashleigh. 🙁

Frontal Lobe!

I agree with the alcohol thing... or at least, that's what I'm trying to blame my behavior on. Oops.

Woo hoo! Thought I'd start one of these, and while I'm not an '09er, I wanted to make one of these threads.

premature...as usual😀

No, that's okay, I was getting tired anyway.

:laugh: "you wanna just watch The Late Show instead?"

BTW, the writers' strike is ruining television for me.

Back home for some sleep, and on the road again in six hours.

I have no idea how business travelers survive.

This is getting old.
