Official MCW Class of 2009 Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I used to be a suite waitress/bartender at a civic center. We would eat any and all leftovers from the food that was catered to the suites. Yum, yum.

you were a cocktail waitress?????? HOT!!!!!

i concur...my pt had some good looking lasgana. I almost wanted to finish what he didnt

I'm just going to just assume that any food my patients aren't eating in the hospital are meant as a tip for my hard work and dedication.

All of you guy guys' conspiring to take away ortho from me didn't work! I GOT ORTHO!!!! YAY!!!!

Ashers is happy. =) 😀

I'm happy for you!

Got my ENT rotation! Thanks for reminding me to check.

Since I got my 1st choice for tracks, I got my 3rd choice for elective - Plastics. But I'm not gonna be doing that hopefully anyway.

That sucks. Here's hoping you get your ortho or anesthesia Sub-I.

Got my first elective choice: interventional rads. Can't wait to (hopefully) cut into some vessels and pass a cath. I'm such a geek.

I would love to say I got my Emergency Medicine rotation...but since there actually wasn't one available, I can only say I got my first choice of Neuro rehab. Yay for brain injuries!!

I just realized i might run into Dr. Ho. Dear Lord.

Very happy to hear you got ortho. I'm pretty sure the universe would have come to a screeching halt if you hadn't gotten your shot at ortho. 😉

You think that Dr. Ho will pimp his students up and down the halls, effectively turning you guys into Dr. Ho's hos?

That will be a sweet elective. I would have ranked it if it were offered during my Vac/E month.

I am so glad I did an elective... even though I'm smack-dab in the middle of 16 months without a vacation... wow... seriously. Eight months in, eight months to go. Ouch.

Fourth year with only two months of vacation seems scary.

Yeah, odd that they only offer it from Dec. on. You'll have to let me know what you think of the ENT rotation. That was in my top 3.

Marty got that one too, but I don't know when his elective month is.

And, yes, I would've been extremely sad had I not gotten ortho, and I probably would've tried to finangle a spot.

So collectively you all want to go into ENT, Ortho, Radiology, and neuro? Wow, I'm way out of my league around here. I think I'll retire from this...

Yeah, but we already knew you were out of our leagues.

By the way, any chance we can bug you at the end of the year for some suggestions on pocket guides for next year or books you used for shelf exams? 😀

I 2nd that request! The only thing I've heard so far is the Maxwell one. My M4 for Review H&P has it and said she loves it. So I picked it up the other day - $8.95.

Congrats on everyone getting great electives!! Now I just have to figure out what I want to do so I can call up the department and ask if I can do a sub-I in June - ortho or anesthesia. Hhhhmmmm...

Absolutely

OB/GYN.... yay for non competitive specialties, babe.

Anesthesiology is still #1 for me...ENT was just the most applicable elective available for third years (although I would definitely consider going into it based on my experience in the elective.)

I have a Maxwell's that I picked up the other week. It has already paid for itself in awesomeness on my H&P sessions at my preceptor. I also picked up Tarascon's "How to be a Truly Excellent Junior Medical Student." It's been a very insightful read so far...I'll pass it around to you guys once I'm done with it.

April, the course director for the Anesthesiology dept. is Dr. Elena Holak over at the VA. I would start out by e-mailing her, and cc'ing Dr. Tom Ebert, the residency director. You better not take up a spot in a July anesthesia sub-I that Pratik and I will be gunning for, though! 😛

If you do ortho, do the trauma service with Schmeling. I'll be going for the sub-I in july/aug on the trauma service.

I got Maxwell's at the beginning of the year, and I keep forgetting to actually use it.

Andy, that Truly Excellent Jr. med student book sounds interesting. I've never heard of it. Right now I'm reading "Life of a Surgeon" which my dad gave me for Christmas, so I could know what his life was like when he was in residency before programs became "wimpy" with the 80hr work week (his words, not mine).

Now... off to watch Back to the Future, for the first time, so I can truly argue with my friend that Indiana Jones is better.

Sorry, that argument will never hold water against my favorite movie of all time...no joke. You will be converted by the end of the movie.

PS: Indiana Jones is awesome, too. I need to rewatch all of them sometime soon - it's been a long time.

Depends which movies in the series you're comparing. Raiders and Last Crusade are better than any of the Back to the Future movies, but Temple of Doom couldn't beat out any of McFly's zany adventures. 😉

That reminds me. I need to ask for these dvd sets the next time people are asking for gift ideas.

PPS: I was seriously considering changing my SDN name to "McFly," and probably would have if it weren't already taken.

PPSS: I only have the first movie on video. I should ask for the set of DVD's sometime too.

speaking of things...

last night we were talking about the rumor that there will be alcohol at tonight's med student shindig and someone asked, "you know that M2 named Martin, the really wacky guy?" Then, they proceded to tell me about a slide show in which med students are compared to celebrities in a side by side fashion. I forgot what else I was going to type here but you all just ponder that for a while.

I will be at Variety Fest tonight to support my wonderful friend Jared Burton, the best singer/piano player/random stuff maker upper ever. Ponder that as well.

I've herd that the moosical groops that are playin' tonight are top shelf, top shelf I tell ya!

I can't speak for the Jazz band since I've been MIA for a while, and I won't be at Variety Fest either. I'm turning anti-social. They're generally excellent, and Jared's singing a song, and playing piano with them.

You should go! Bring your green hat!

Or not... I'm already spending all day at school. Not spending all night here too. The only reason I'd want to go would be to see Kolesari play the accordian.

Oh, man, I've got to see that. I've heard some good accordionists over the last few years, though not quite good enough to actually make me like the accordion.

I'm so excited for variety fest tonight. Make sure you stop and see my paintings. 2 I brought last year, but I brought another one too.

Indo, there's beer during the pre-party hour, but you can't bring it into the show. I can't quite figure out why though. So people are drinking for 3 hours? I dunno. There's wine in the AC all the time, so it's not like alcohol's not allowed.

An M2's mom works for cisco or one of those food distribution places, so she's manages to hook us up. Usually there's a ton of desserts, and I've heard build-your-own sandwiches.

It's the last performance of Tenacious MD tonight. They'll be missed next year. And Xandie's right...Jared is good. All the acts are good. Yeah!!

Ashleigh!! Stop being anti-social!! Because I said so.

I volunteered at the Urban ecology center today for winterfest. It was a blast. You should all check it out sometime if you've never been there.

what time does the beer stop?

6:30. beer from 5:30 to 6:30.

pretty much. assuming things are the same from last year.

You guys have to let me know how the jazz band is. I'll be at home watching more Back to the Future. I didn't finish watching the first movie. I went to sleep instead so I could be at the library when it opened. At least now I'm caught up in pharm, and I'm just starting path.

Yup...last year i think they tapped out the kegs before 6:30 though.

And i can bench a buick...not as much as Dr Ho who can bench 2 buicks and a honda.

But when you lift the buick you have to move it 2 feet while Dr. Ho only has to move it about 6 or 10 inches. So in the end, the work is the same but he gets to celebrate a torn pectoral muscle.

Marc, there were some lovely pictures of you tonight. You're famous!! 😱

Ashleigh, the jazz band was really great. They did a usual, then jared sang sweet georgia brown. then tony sang with them on zoot suit riot (i probably got that title spelled wrong). man, does he have a voice.

variety fest was good, lots of good acts.

Party's at Mo's. See you there.

You spelled "zoot suit" right. All 3 songs were new to the jazz band repetoir. Had I known any of them, I might've actually played instead of being a slacker and returning my mixer to Bed Bath and Beyond b/c the one I exchanged last night also didn't work. Now I have a mixer that does work and cookies. mmmmm

glad to hear it was good. =)
