Official MCW Class of 2009 Thread

Fair enough. I like water balloon fights. didn't you also have access to a relatively large hose? 😉 Would those be long enough to get to the roof then make a shower for people?

My friends and I in the dorms at Univ. of MN used to like to throw water balloons from our window on the 4th floor at drunk partiers wandering by. Eventually that became too easy, so we started luring the girls closer by starting conversations with them from our room while they stayed on the street. It always ended in them inviting us to come party with them because "you guys seem like cool guys."

Then we would show them how cool we were by saying, "Sure, we'll be right down" then nailing them with water balloons. Suddenly they decided we were a-holes. Girls are so fickle.

Don't generalize girls. 😡 I probably would've like to have been on the throwing end, especially since I never went out and partied in college (or now to be honest).

My friends and I would have massive water balloon fights in parks in London, then we'd walk around London barefoot (not the most sanitary thing to do ever).

My apologies, of course. 😉 I'll continue the story, so that you can see that there are ramifications of water balloon attacks on innocent people.

Eventually even pelting innocent drunk girls was not thrilling enough for some of us. So members of our group took to hiding behind a locked fire door on the first floor. They would hear people walking by, throw open the door and nail them with a balloon, then run back into the dorm behind said locked door and hide out in the room until the coast was clear again. Meanwhile the rest of us would hang out on the 4th floor and watch the whole thing unfold.

Well one night a group of us was partaking in the water balloon extravaganzas. The guys had taken to propping the door open with a rock so that they had more time to take aim while throwing balloons. Well, one of the guys decided it would be a great idea to nail some dude driving by in a Pontiac Firebird (or some other redneck "sports" car). He threw the balloon, scored a direct hit, and then came peeling back to the door. Turns out the rock had become dislodged and he was locked out. This became a problem when Pontiac guy threw his ride into reverse, quick parked it, and got out to beat the crap outta whoever threw the balloon. We were mortified as we saw our friend take off down the street at a sprint, with the water balloon victim on his tail. We didn't see him for 3 hours afterwards, and he never really gave us many details of his flight for his life. All we got out of him was that he spent at least an hour hiding behind a bush a few blocks away from the dorm.

Thus ended our water balloon terrorism. It was only several months later when we ventured back into the world of petty misdemeanors when we started slingshotting apples off of the top of parking ramps at dorm windows. But that's a different story for a different time...

Awesome. My dorm was never conducive to doing stuff like that. My dad told me stories about how he and his roommates used to slingshot cherry bombs to the dorm room on the opposite side of the court yard. I think it was stopped when one ricocheted off the window edge and stayed in their room which made the RA mad.

In Mankato, if you were seen with the screen off your dorm window, you got kicked out of the dorms permanently. No questions asked. Apparently years back some serious injuries occurred from stuff flying out the 12-story buildings.

Unless of course you're a MN Viking. Then you can do whatever the hell you want.

When I went to school at the U of M, I commuted, so I didn't get to take part in any of the water balloon fun. 🙁

Marc, that was a pretty clever clue. I figured there was something to that sentence, but couldn't figure out what.

Don't get me wrong...if the dorm found out about stuff like that we would have been in the wringer. There was just 8 or so of us that didn't make that connection/care enough to stop the pranks.

We had a really stern dorm administrator in my freshman dorm. It was kind of funny because he always suspected us of pulling off the pranks when he got complaints or reports, but he could never find evidence or prove it. Then, one night a couple of the guys in our group were hanging out with a few girls in the dorm that happened to have alcohol in their room (the guys claim to have had no idea about it). This was a problem as it was a dry dorm. The a-hole administrator brought the hammer down on the two guys, forcing them to go to alcohol education classes and making them sign a sheet indicating any further mess-ups would lead to expulsion from the dorm. The guy never even warned the girls whose room it was. 😡

Yeah, the apples and water balloons were definitely not the most dangerous thing I ever heard getting flung out of those windows. I moved to a different dorm for my sophomore year and was told a story about a freshman the year before that lit a huge bundle of our school newspaper on fire and flung it out the window trying to nail a streetlight in the adjoining parking lot.

Turns out the guy didn't even drink (so there goes that excuse) and I found out a few weeks later that he was one of my new roommates. 🙁

I got caught w/ alcohol once (out of the several thousand times drinking in the dorms). But since it was the week before finals, the dorm manager guy didn't do anything about it but tell us not to drink in the dorms.

That's because girls never get in trouble with alcohol... it's always the guy's fault...

One of my dorms had screens on the windows, the other dorm the windows only opened slightly. The 2nd one had a weird set up. It was labyrinthy.

why would someone ever think that throwing a fireball out the window is a good idea. esp w/out alcohol involved.

Official word of the day.

Did someone say "labyrinthy"?

Yeah, if I didn't mark where I lived on the floor I could get lost. Never seen the entire movie. According to my brother, I have to watch it.

I haven't seen it in at least 10 years. For a few years, though, I always had a class in school that would show it for some reason or another. Evidently The Labyrinth is the public school system's answer to showing The Ten Commandments in private schools.

David Bowie could kick Charlton Heston's ass.

We watched The Ten Commandments in AP English at a public school while reading parts of the Bible, and my teacher was Buddhist.

I considered myself a Buddhist for a while about two years ago. I may still associate myself with it, although I certainly don't read about it as much or meditate daily like I did at that time. Pretty difficult to pull off when your wife is a very devout Catholic.

I'm ELCA lutheran. That means I can do whatever the hell I want.

I'm not familar with this Labyrinth movie you speak of.

That reminds me, I should really watch The Dark Crystal again sometime...haven't seen it since I was a kid but I remember it frightening the crap outta me. That was a Henson movie too, right?

Yeah. Never saw that one either.

I tended to watch things like The Muppet Movie, The Muppet Show, Fraggle Rock.

if i were your wife, i would totally let you be as Buddhist as you like, and I've even be Buddhist with you.

just something to think about.

It's a Jim Henson movie from 1986. IMDB

that was one of the freakiest things i've ever seen. that guy must've been desperate to be in a movie.

i'm just letting him know he has options, that's all.

We get a few more in the running to be my wife and we might be able to start our own reality show here. Just an idea.

just fyi, ashleigh has passed me up in posting, even though I've been on SDN 2 years longer.

i'd like to hear more about these rumors.

Apparently 2 people convinced one of my friend's girl friends that he was cheating on her with me and my asian twin, but they didn't specify if it was at the same time or not, so it could be kinky. It doesn't help that one of the people who did the convincing hates me.

So basically, now I'm a slut, and I try to break up relationships.

Just you wait...she recently started postwhoring in the Lounge with me in the Alphabet Game thread. Soon she'll be up there with Prowler and Indo.

someone hates you?

and how is that story even remotely believable. not that i don't think you're capable of having something kinky going on. 🙂

your asian twin?

Someone who likes to ask questions a lot in lecture hates me.

My asian twin -- we practically think the same. I guess she's more of a partner in crime.

Pure craziness. I was waiting for the rumor to be about you and I doing the medcest thing, since we all know the medical school culture is about as mature as the 7th grade and guys talking to girls at school have to be hitting on them. 😉

Then I remembered that rumors about me in class would require people to realize I was in the class. We all know that ain't gonna happen.

well, since i don't go to lecture, i'm still not sure who that would be, but i have a guess, i supppose. isn't hate a strong word? can't we all just get along?

so i need to study. i haven't gotten anything done yet today. but the race is done in ~40 laps, so the tv is going off for sure. but i also need to go to the store for snacks. i don't know how i'm gonna do well tomorrow if it's 5pm, and i haven't even cracked open anything related to pathology.

my ambition is so low.

We could go make Allo think that. 😉

Check your PM. I'm going through CNS tumors for the first time. I really just don't care anymore. Well, this block. I'd much prefer to be studying pharm. I probably wouldn't have my computer out, or be refreshing every 2s.

We could go make Allo think that. 😉

That sounds like some high-concept trollin' right there. Shoot me a PM and let me know what the plan is. 🙂

Okay, I'm outta here. I have to swear off the internet for the rest of the day. Except for ANGEL. I can't believe how I have wasted so much time today. I mean, spent such quality time with my SDN friends. 😎

Bye everyone. Good night, good luck, and I'll see you tomorrow.

new challenge for the exam for first-half-of-the-alphabet people!

Let's see who can answer all of the questions first. they don't need to be right...you just gotta be the first person to put an answer down for every question and submit the test.

Let's see, of those of us that post here, that would be me. You just want to see my path grade go down. I decline. Not that my lack of studying isn't going to help it go down anyway.

I'll do it! Give me someone's ANGEL password.

I used to be the first one out of every test (still am, actually, but we're in smaller groups so it's not as impressive now). I finished the OB/GYN shelf in about thirty minutes. Woohoo! I was done with boards at like 2:00 in the afternoon.

(Fast doesn't mean smart... it just means fast).

If I could, I would so give you the password for the girl who started the above rumor about me.
