Gotta write a flippin' H&P tonight even though I haven't officially admitted anyone to my unit yet as most of our patients are transfers from the PICU and have already had a big old workup done. To make matters worse their parents are only infrequently there, if that.

So yeah, hurray for the time-honored art of paraphrasing the original H&P.

Yeah, then maybe that'd freak him out of wanting to go to med school. Tell him how everyone needs to volunteer at Saturday Free Clinic too.
 
Hello newly graduated M2's. Hope your rotations are going on great. do u guys thing M2 is way harder than M1. What advice would u give to an M2 and what did u which he would have done.
 
I would say we're newly beaten up m3's rather than recent m2 graduates.


I don't think m2 year was harder, but it was more work. More volume of stuff to memorize and more clinical crap.

I wish I would've kept up better with stuff so I could've made better use of some question books/review books. I always got behind and didn't do those things, and I think I could've had higher grades. Also, really learn stuff this year, not just short-term memorizing. Actually learn the stuff.

Wear whatever... most people will be in dress clothes, having come from clinic or wards. People on ER showed up in jeans, sometimes. I'd err on the side of dressing up, since it's early in the year. I didn't start really missing jeans until May or so, and by then I couldn't escape dress clothes.

And Don, mine's Redlich... I didn't actually submit the list because on my machine (yes, it's a Mac), but submit button didn't show up. I'm not sure how he'll be about my little issue I had last year... I'm hoping nicer than I'm expecting a surgeon to be. :scared:

We've had a ton of bounce-backs on Psych at the VA, which means I get to do this a lot. It sucks for the patients that they aren't doing well enough to have to be back on the unit, but it sure makes for a nice quick admission note. We're getting hammered right now - Jessen and I are carrying between 3 and 5 patients apiece...I feel like I've learned a LOT in only four full days of working.

Our attending is on vacation this week, and tomorrow our resident is tied up in didactics all morning, so we're on our own. :scared: Hopefully another attending will come rescue us when our team gets an admission.

If you saw the Jeep, then (a. I live within 2 miles of you (b. I stopped by school today to grab my grades, only to find out they'd been mailed to my house over the weekend anyways (but I still had the specific scores in my mailbox).

If you saw any one of a number of other vehicles, we do have clients in Tosa (two of them within two blocks of my apt). We've got about 25 company vehicles now. We just picked up a dual feed wheel wood chipper that can handle a 24" log. I think it was about $35,000.


So our faculty think it's okay to lie: my neuroscience grade report says I did excellent on all of my exams. :laugh: Yeah, I literally missed more on the first exam than I did the rest of the semester. But apparently I beat the mean on the final by over a standard deviation. I really, really needed it too. I made the cut-off by about four questions. Somebody got a 50% on the final, but the low score in the class was still a pass.

Today in the mail, there was an envelope that had the words "Official Report," and other official-looking phrases stamped on it. I tried not to get too excited, but my heart was definitely pounding as I opened it. Of course, it turned out to be a loan consolidation offer from one of those predatory companies that try to trick you into thinking you need to do something with your loans. Grrrrrrr...

Yeah, Neuro told me I "almost honored" the class. I didn't honor a single test, and I was right in the middle of a HP. I think there's a bunch of altered mental statuses over there.

Hey now. That's a paltry TWELVE shifts, thank you very much. And on top of that next week i'm ENCOURAGED to attend a suture workshop. How inconvenient!!!
 
Spent some time at a Lake Geneva house today. He's throwing a million dollar party in two weeks, so we're there every week, spraying the bejeezus out of everything green there. For last year's party, he out-bid Summerfest for Jimmy Buffet. This year, he built a children-sized village in his front yard that probably cost about five hundred grand. He's got his own orchard, several greenhouses (off-site), and close to a hundred oak trees that we'll be injecting for about $200 apiece. It looks like Monticello, actually, but he only spends about ten days a year at the house. Apparently his fund manages about $3B in assets. Yikes.
 
1:30 on a Friday afternoon that I'm staying late to take admissions on. My team is up for the next admit, too. Sadly, the chances are probably nil that I won't get one, but I just hope they come in early enough so I can finish up before it gets too late.

How's everybody else's rotations going?

I'm just finishing up my lawn mowing rotation, moving into my pesticide application rotation. I'm pretty psyched!
 
2:30 and still no admissions. I'm gonna be royally screwed when one comes in 10 minutes before I'm supposed to leave. Maybe crazy people like to wait until the weekend is over before they present to the hospital. I think I heard a stat about that once, but I doubt it applies to psych patients. Especially VA psych patients.
 
3:40 and still nothing. Damn, there's no wood to knock on in here.

Today was an official Psych holiday Friday the 13th. Other holidays include Full Moon nights and Halloween. I was busy today, but even worse yesterday.

As an RN in the ER my mom believed there's something to all of those, and the Rule of 3s.

So today was my birthday, and I spent the entire day at Froedtert. Boy, birthdays sure get sucky in old age.

Went and got a couple drinks after softball last night. Beer never tasted so good.

I will probably spend the majority of my birthday in surgeries, if that makes you feel better. Rah surgery sub-I. Although I did have it off during third year.
