Know:
Durkee: read about hypospadias, posterior urethral valves, and cloacal extrophy. he likes to have you draw diagrams of these things.
Balcom: Always wear eyewear in the OR. Know the things you may find in the spermatic cord besides the usual (appendix testes and epididymis, adrenal rest etc. [and their embryological origin], the structures found in the umbilical cord (mention wharton's jelly), the various pathologies of the urachus and the omphalomesenteric duct (patent, sinus, cyst, diverticulum).
Mitchell is nice, and doesn't pimp much, but when he does, watch out. He is (and I'm not kidding) probably the world's leading pediatric urologist, and he wrote the book on cloacal and bladder extrophy.
Mesrobian never pimped me, but I only saw him for a half day.
Other quick pearls:
You get adenocarcinoma in a urachal diverticulum, meckels diverticulum is from the omphalomesenteric duct, and a fibrous remnant (can't remember the name) of the omphalo- causes volvulus.
Know the Meier-Weigert law for ureteral duplication: the ureteral orifice (UO) upper pole ureter drains medially and inferior to the UO of the lower pole. The lower pole is more likely to reflux, and the upper pole is more likely to be obstructed.
Best I can do in five minutes.
Hope it helps.
Don
If I hated Devo I should probably stay clear of pediatric urology, right?
