You'll get over it when you reach Maui.

First I have to go my stupid sister's wedding.

Since I'm going under protest, I'm wearing jeans and a black top. I may even speak up if the person officiating (since I have no idea if it's even in a church) says "Does anyone have any reason why these two should not wed... blah blah." My mom's threatening to duct tape my mouth.

She and her jerk fiance have ruined every Christmas since 2000, now they've divided the family, and ruined this Christmas, so I may as well ruin her wedding. I told her she didn't want me to go.

My sister married the worst guy I know (beat the crap out of her and pushed her down the stairs while she was pregnant. on Mother's day. no joke). I went, took pictures of the ridiculousness (see: park hear). They separated 6 months later.

Sometimes, you have to let people make their own mistakes.

Holy monkey. My sister's fiance isn't that bad, but he's way controlling, verbally abused my mom, and all signs point to him verbally abusing my sister.

My mom's usually highly anti-divorce since her parents divorced and her family's messed up, and she's even saying that in my sister's case, she would approve of divorce.

Good times.

It's bad when you're planning the divorce before the wedding... of course, some of us get married anyway. *sigh*

Hi all,

I am an M2 and i have a question about step 1. I was thinking of signing up for USMLE-RX in january for 6 months and then use USMLE-WORLD about 2 months closer to the exam. What do u guys think about it. Did any one here use USMLE-RX? If so what do u think about it. Thanks

🙁 that's no good

I hate fog. The fog canceled my flight from Milwaukee to Chicago at like 7:45 this morning, so my parents wanted me to drive to Chicago to just catch my next flight at 2pm to LA.

After I changed my tickets, I realized that I don't fly back into Chicago, but rather St. Louis, so I had to call American back, and see if I could fly into Chicago instead of Milwaukee since my car will be here, hopefully on 1 January when I get back.

So now, I'm at O'Hare after driving down here with the crappy fog, at least the traffic wasn't bad. And I'll have to drive back to Milwaukee after a red eye flight when I come back. Blargh.

I didn't use USMLE Rx, but I haven't heard good things about it. From what I understand, it's basically just First Aid rewritten in multiple choice question format. I don't think that would help me very much. Something to think about.

That sucks Ashers. My sister had a horrible experience with airplanes coming home from college this weekend too. Her flight in NY was delayed 3 hours, so she missed her connecting flight in Chicago. United Airlines said that since it was air traffic control's fault that she was late, they weren't responsible for getting her on another flight. The didn't even offer to put her up in a hotel for the night or give her a bus ticket to Milwaukee. AND they wouldn't give her baggage to her in Chicago and instead sent it on to Milwaukee without her! Apparently her baggage is good enough for a free flight, but not so much for her.

I just hate it that the airlines can jerk you around like that with basically no recourse whatsoever for messing up all your plans. United was fully ready to strand my little sister in Chicago - she isn't even old enough to rent a car! Fortunately my parents were able to drive down and pick her up.

Wonderful.

Mine was not canceled until after I left my house to ride the bus to the airport. I am now flying out Monday morning at the crack of dawn. Northwest was kind enough to extend my return also so I'll still have plenty of time with my family and if the travel gods are good to me, I'll still get to sing with my mom on Christmas Eve.

I'm staying in Milwaukee, but I am bored out of my mind!!! Seriously. I almost reorganized my closet out of boredom... then I stopped and laid on the floor for a while. Boo hiss.

Is there something else, i can start with at the moment.

Oh goodness. That's horrible. At least American was accommodating for me. United should've totally made arrangements for your sister.

Nothing. Wait until later then get Kaplan or USMLE World. I did all of Qbank after finals.

Yeah, I think the best thing you can do right now is to spend some time with your review books. It's nice to be really familiar with whatever you're using for pathology before finals and boards studying. Also, as you've probably heard before, make sure you learn Pharm and Path really well this semester so you don't have to study it as much for boards.

Yeah, totally agree. So I used BRS for all but 2 blocks last year (because I managed to lose it in my apt after I had surgery). I bought RR when I couldn't find BRS, and I used RR for boards. I would've been more familiar with BRS since I had read most chapters a few times. RR was good though, even though I read it once in 4.5 days, while studying for boards.

Ditto, again with learning path and pharm. I used some pharm note cards I inherited to study pharm, but since I knew them pretty well, all I had to do was review them. I also used my pharm notes, but just basic reviewing. I had done the majority of pharm studying for finals.

are there any good pre-made notecards for pharm? I don't like making flashcards, but I can definitely see the utility of them in pharm, so I'd rather just buy them...

There is a series called PharmCards, I believe. I know someone used them...maybe akpete?

Although I feel way nerdy for admitting it, one of the things I found really helpful was just dedicating all of spring break to studying BRS path (and restudying the first semester path notes).

I had every intention of studying for boards over spring break. However, I had surgery right before spring break last year, and I spent all of break trying to catch up in the classes I missed.

Did the same thing, and it was time well spent. 👍

Yeah... I enjoyed my spring break. Then again, my career aspirations aren't anywhere near my compatriots here. Just wanted to give a voice to any slackers out there...

I studied pharm for about 3 hours on spring break. That was the extent of my school-related activities that week.

I'm headed to Hershey, PA... slightly less exciting, but I'm happy nonetheless. Plus, I'm not leaving until 7!

i'm DRUNKL!!!!!!!!!😀😀😀😀😀😀

are you old enough to drink?

Yup, I used Lange Pharmcards. Liked them. Not too much info, not too little. You'll have to add some cards though. I don't think any of the premade cards cover all the drugs we go over.

After hearing the flying fiasco's I don't feel too bad about my drive back home overnight on Dec 22-Dec 23. Drove right into the snowstorm. My brother and I went to the Badger bball game sat night, left Madison at 11:30. Rain turned to sleet to heavy snow. Much of the drive was going 30-35 mph on I-94, following the tracks cuz you couldn't see the road. Had to pull off the road to clear off my windshield once. My brother had to guide me off the freeway because I couldn't see where I was going. Then stopped again to get more gas in case the roads didn't better and it would maybe take more than a tank of gas to get home. All in all, normally it's a 3 hour drive home from Madison. Instead it was 5 hours. Went to bed at 5am.

But I still think that was probably way better than flying.

I had a long drive yesterday - about 19 hours. Left at 7am and arrived at 1am, Mountain time. My friend most definitely has the hook-up though - we're staying in a huge log cabin with basically a basement suite. It's really cold out though....

I had another cancellation on the way to New Orleans, resulting in a 5-hour airport wait, but I still made it home in time to sing with my mom in the choir. I had to kind of sight-sing, but it was okay. The trip home, including three or possibly four cancellations and a bump due to weight requirements on one of the airplanes, took thirteen hours.

But I got a bump voucher out of it, and the airline that gave it to me wasn't even my original airline. Tomorrow I'll be pumped about that.

Let's bump this thread and do an M3/M4 roll call; tell what you're doing and where you're at this month:

I'm on General Surgery at the VA.

Wait... I thought... peds surg?

So confused!

Wait... I thought... peds surg?

So confused!

I got so tired of everyone being mad at me for switching, coming up and basically telling me how evil I was for making one person "who really wanted peds surg, and why did you have to make him switch?"

I was originally switched to peds surg because I wasn't ever supposed to be put on CT. I had talked with Amy Leisten about my Raynaud's disease, and she said it wouldn't be a problem, don't rank CT, and write an email reminding her. I did all that, and still got put in CT. When I saw that, I emailed her back, just asking, and she switched me to peds, and didn't give much of an explanation to the person she switched out of peds other than "he was the last one in the lottery placed in peds."

Apparently he was complaining that I switched him out of peds just because I "didn't want CT." (If I had the option, I wouldn't've ranked peds surg. I ranked it low as it was. And not because the amount of work, because it involves kids.) So when he complained to one of my friends, that friend explained to him what happened because I was nearly crying when I saw that I was put in CT and had shown my friend the email I had written etc.

So my friend on the rotation with me said he'd take the cases where the student has ice dumped on the heart-hands. At least we get to start late, and the hours sound better than ortho trauma, minus having to work on the weekend. Rounding at 6am, no prerounding, done around 6pm, technically better than rounding at 5am getting done between 7 and 10pm.

Who would want to get stuck diagnosing diseases when you can INTERVENE?! Interventional Rads at the Dert for me this month!

Btw, our lunch date today was a blast. We'll have to do it again sometime, but you should really dress up a little bit more. Professional dress doesn't mean you need to ditch the lipstick and nail polish, dear.

Poor you, stuck on rads. I miss last semester already.

Just now got your text btw.

Oh, doubt I'll have musubi for Friday, but I do have lots of caramel that I made last night. I'll bring that.

What is Musubi? From Hawaii?

Ob/gyn at St Marys. Got to leave at 1:45 today. But on call Sunday.

Was quite surprised to hear how early we get to go home post-call. Was expecting to be there until noon or 1.

Which M3s are planning on reading for intersession?

i already read that stuff. I'm probably going to read it again right before bed and again in the morning to get myself in the mood.
