Official MCW Class of 2009 Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
We should have SDN mock elections. Most likely to succeed, most likely to become president, most likely to fake a seizure to get out of a shelf, etc.

I was "loudest" in college. I'm proud of that one.

Hmmm...

I don't see it.

Wow. Page 109. Amazing.

I've never been a most likely to... I guess I'm most likely to not be noticed.

Edit: and most likely to split an infinitive

I vote Ashers most likely to have given me directions to someplace important today!

(as far as med students go...the guy at Fleet Farm also directed me to the bags of water softening salt today)

I vote Danzig the non-medical student most likely to RAWK!!!!111!!!!!211oneoneeleventy!!!!11!

OK, I am officially fed up with my PDA. I can't use this piece of garbage for anything useful. I'm trying to download Thompson's Clinical XPert right now, and I can't get the dang thing to sync onto my PDA. Anyone have any tips?

i completely erased the memory and hard-reset mine back to factory settings...and have yet to call Palm about it. the warranty is good through march, so i'll get around to fixing mine eventually. Mine goes into endless restart loops no matter what program i'm using, and still does after the hard-reset. Their tech support blows, by the way.

Alright, poll: Who's doing what in April/May? We're having a goodbye party. You're all coming and I don't want to hear excuses. No food poisoning especially, Fuego.

I'm on vacation, then PFI. Either works for me.

I will be on Peds in April, Medicine in May. No word yet on when my outpatient vs. inpatient months will be.

Alright, I got John's Hopkin's Abx. guide to go to my PDA. I think the problem is that I have more than one username associated with the PDA, and it only hot-syncs things for the username you designate. Unfortunately I don't know how to get Clinical Xpert back on the docket to sync, and it won't let me download it again. Pooh.

Edit: Nevermind. It didn't finish installing the program on my PDA. **** this thing.

OB/gyn then switching to psych/neuro mid May.

i wish my nose would stop being plugged up. this is seriously teh worst congestion and snotting I've had in years. I can't remember ever blowing out this much snot. yeesh.

You're going to be trouble. Mid-May sounds ridiculously like graduation. Whatever, anyway, you're coming. You will find the time.

This is a picture of the thing that saved my nose this winter. I picked it up from the rhinology & sinus docs on my ENT rotation. It's a weird sensation to squirt hypertonic saline up your nose, but it works wonders for a stuffy nose/sinus congestion. I do a half bottle of it up each nostril on days when my nose is stuffed. It's a similar principle to the "neti pot," if you have ever seen one of those.

I also lived on Vicks Vapo-rub for about 2 weeks in January. I was literally huffing it underneath the sheets of my bed like a teenager with a fresh tube of model airplane glue.

That monkey is pretty much the coolest thing. EVER.

ironically, as samenewme can tell you, I had been using a similar device for several days up until I got sick. with my current level of congestion I can guarantee that the saline would go in but not come out.

Ambulatory medicine in April, forensic path in May, except the 3 thru 6 when I'll be in sunny Cali.

I'll be on CPR in April and Family in May. And I like to party.

I've been pretty lucky in scheduling this year. I got my #1 track and all of my #1 preferences so far in 3rd year, except surgery, but I liked my 3rd choice for that, and I decided by the end it should've been my first choice anyway. I probably just jinxed myself though.

I got Rogers for psych. Yeah!

Well, you only sort of get a choice for CPR, family is done by where you live, and no choice for neuro. Your elective is what?

And yay for parties. I'm excited today because I got a "you are ranked highly on our list" email from my top program. Yay for that. Yay for everything! Okay... less sugar for me.

Yay!

I have my ortho sub-I in June. I'm on the especially special track.

Yeah... I knew that. Forgot that meant you don't have an elective. Excuse me while I go rinse my brain.

So I was in a combined Plastics/GSII case today, and I got to stay for the plastics part. What did I get pimped on? Parasites. EWWW!!! Stuff I tried to not remember. I got some of it right, but I did a pretty good job of forgetting a lot about parasites, as did the plastics residents.

I did that a couple times. Walker and Hijjawi? Hijjawi did pimp on crazy stuff I remember.

Otterson and Sanger. Apparently Sanger majored in Zoology in college THEN decided to go into medicine after taking a parasitology classES.

I avoided all those yucky classes that were electives in my major by taking endocrine phys and immunology.

If Otterson = Mary Fran Otterson, then that would be my mom's cousin. I think she went to college to be a dancer.

Space Shuttle Columbia, STS-107, lost on re-entry on February 1, 2003.

The traditional "zero gravity" photo of the crew, which was recovered from the scattered wreckage.

Red Shirts, left to right:
Kalpana Chawla, Mission Specialist
Rick Husband, Commander
Laurel Clark, Mission Specialist
Ilan Ramon, Israel's first astronaut, Payload Specialist
Blue Shirts:
Dave Brown, Mission Specialist
Willie McCool, Pilot
Michael Anderson, Payload Commander

Also recovered from the wreckage were experiments performed on board the shuttle, which were still in-tact and provided usable and valuable information following recovery.

"To be an astronaut is to accept a lofty calling. The seven daring souls who we grieve for today represented the best of the human spirit. They did their chosen calling proud and they had a special grace. Today we pay tribute to the Columbia astronauts for what they did for us in carrying on the great tradition of the select few we call astronauts."
-Sean O'Keefe, NASA administrator

The space shuttle Columbia was the first space-worthy shuttle, orbiting the earth 36 times on STS-1 in 1981, and was the first space vehicle to be reused for repeated missions. It performed 28 missions, including many research flights and the repair of the Hubble space telescope.

I wouldn't orbit Milwaukee in a vehicle from 1981.

I don't wanna be on call tomorrow.

Xandie, I hate to admit it, but Ob-gyn's not as bad as I thought it would be. I think it's moved from 2nd to last to 3rd or 4th to last. 😉

What are the thoughts on the yearbook? We have to decide by Tues. I'd proabably spend the money if I knew a substantial number of classmates would do the same. But I don't want to spend $60 if only 30/200 people submit.

I've already put in my job application to this wondrous institution:

That was freaking hilarious.

Good idea: Getting your car's oil changed.

Bad idea: Test driving a brand new Rav4 while you wait.

Damn.

Ha. I consider that a personal victory.

Just to thwart you I'm gonna go in expecting OB/Gyn to be the best rotation ever, that way when I'm disappointed I can complain to you.

Complain, feel free, you'll fit right in with the rest of the whiny folks...

Oops, did I say that outloud?

I love OB/GYN. And I am actually having the best day ever. No kidding. Ask Don, I was giddy and giggling all day long. Plus, I got to hang out with Don all day.
