I did, thanks! I'm sorry. it was OB/gyn orientation day and everything was sort of a blur.

On call at Joe's last night. Freaking baby factory. Babies everywhere.

........BAAAAYYYYBEEEEESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought Joe's was a good place to do OB. Just remember that the funniest joke to an OB is to say "caught it on the first bounce" when they ask you how a delivery went. Kills them every time. Trust me, Xandie is probably pissing herself right now just thinking about the awesomeness of that joke.

PS: The Terlizzi & Lee show on Wed. mornings is great...they make a good comedy duo (although their names always made me think of more like '70s cop show partners).

Funk: I found our song. "Don't Fear the Reaper."

I have the sheet music with chords + solo, but you're on your own for bass.

And then we're just missing the one vital element. I'm sure you already know.

You're a genius. I say we have auditions for the last member of the band. I'm already set to work on the bass part.

Of COURSE you may borrow my Death Robes. You don't even have to ask!

Random question: When do we apply for the residency relocation loan? As soon as 4th year starts so we have it for interviews? Or can't you get it til later.

Edit: Oh, another random question for any m4s out there still. How flexible are elective rotations here when it comes to the end of the month? I've been accepted to go to Belize for April 2009, and the application for that was by calendar months. But now that I got my official acceptance today, they say they want me there by 5pm Sunday, March 29. I'd rather get out of my March elective early than show up in Belize late. I'm shooting for electives in March such as derm, endocrine-metabolism, radiology, and I listed like 10 others on my lottery list.

Thanks!!!

Oh, and when are we having a party? I'm always in the mood to party!

bump

anyone?

You apply for the residency relocation loan in August, can take it out "whenever". I picked my release date for 10/1. Worked for me.

Party... yeah. When I get back to town, I'll figure something out. I'm back the 15th. 🙂

Speaking of OB at St. Joe's... for those of you who have rotated there, if you had to pick an obstetrician who would it be? ...we're in the market and can't keep our current one once I'm a resident at St. Joe's. (Also, it would be helpful if you could PM me with anyone we should really stay away from).

Thanks Xandie.

Sorry, I was at St Marys for OB. No advice here.

There are a lot of great OB's at St. Joe's, and only one or two I can think of that I wouldn't want to deliver my baby. Something to consider is the group of doctors that your OB practices with, too, since they could easily be delivering your baby if you go into labor on a weekend when your OB isn't on call. There are a couple of groups that have mostly great doctors, but one bad one would almost spoil the bunch for me.

Dr. Terlizzi and Dr. Lee are the associate clerkship directors at St. Joe's and would be very good choices. Super nice guys, although some of the med student's think Terlizzi is kind of gruff (he's not to his patients). They're both in the group practice that the OB who delivered me is in (Dr. Poremski - doesn't mostly gynecology now), and all of the docs in that practice are great.

Lots of med students like Dr. Roseann Gumina and pick her as their OB. I also had really good experiences with Dr. Michael Gilman, Dr. Ericka Vaughn, and Dr. Michelle Backus. Dr. Curt Cornella-Carlson is a super nice guy, and a great OB...same thing for Dr. Joanne Metoff.

I'll PM you some names to stay away from.

Speaking again of OB at St. Joe's....just delivered a baby! rock on!

still not interested in OB/Gyn though.

I'd second most of Gimlet's recs for a doc...with the exception of the ones I haven't worked with. I really liked Gumina and I had a blast with Carlson on my aforementioned first delivery ever. Carlson likes to joke a lot in the room (approrpriate, of course).

I never got to do a delivery with Carlson, but he was great to work with in the OR. He actually acknowledges your existence, which was a nice change of pace.

Dr. Vaughn was the one OB that consistently let me do the entire delivery by myself - try to get her patients if you can.

Oh and by the way yeasterbunny, congratulations on the new bundle of joy on the way! Yay!

Geez, you guys are the worst imaginable friends I've never met.

i guess i'm lost in my own little world. oops.

I was wondering if that was the case. Congrats! =) I was also wondering why you're querying regarding a St. Joe's OB/gyn -- are you staying down here for your intern year then going up to MN?

I just had nothing to say about St. Joe's, and women can go see OB/gyns without being pregnant if they're good patients and if the office will help them get an appointment when they actually have free time... stupid office workers who won't help.

Yes, but he said he was looking for an obstetrician, not a gynecologist. Which is why I assumed his wife was pregnant (I just got here). However, I was going to harass you in person, until I remembered that you're not doing PFI! Silly Matt... Don and I are going to thumb wrestle the entire two weeks. And I'm a rocking thumb wrestler.

fixed for you.

and I do not congratulate until the cord stump falls off. it's just my culture.

but seriously. congrats!!

final personal note: Slept from 11 to 4:50am on overnight call. Pager did not go off once. Yay for all babies squirted out by 10pm!

And my friend, who's an intern now, did not believe me that people got to sleep while on call at Joe's (and didn't sleep at Mary's); since he did his OB/gyn there and never slept.

Yeah unfortunately when I start my transitional year at St. Joe's we will have to switch to one of their doctors.

I can think of 2, maybe 3 people here that, if a fairly common answer exists, will be able to answer this question.

When I was in high school there was a guy (sort of a ne'er-do-well) with a very simple cross tattoo on his middle finger. Just a small cross made of solid straight lines. If memory serves, it would be upside down if the middle finger was extended.

Since then, I've probably seen 2 or 3 other people with this same tattoo of a simple cross on their middle finger. Is there some meaning to this?

I've never seen a tattoo like that, as far as I know. I've seen some letters written across the fingers to form a word when you make a fist, but no crosses. An upside down cross is regarded as Satanic in some circles...

Well there goes my top choice for who I thought might know. But the satanic thing I am aware of, so maybe that has something to do with it...that whole "i'm cool cause i'm all evil and anarchy and stuff" thing.

This would be my guess too. So when you give someone the bird they will be really offended.

I suppose it could have like some gang significance or something if you have seen it on other people too, but that would just be speculation.

I wish I had started a gang.

Hey guys...I've had enough, so I'm quitting school and I'm going to open up a delicatessen. It's gonna be one of those super awesome ones that sells meats and cheeses like at the grocery store, as well as great hot meals like BBQ pork sammiches and hot turkey with gravy and all sorts of yummy sides from mac and cheese to cole slaw to potato salad. We may even do pizza to order, and we'll definitely have an ice cream sunday bar with a soft-serve machine.

Now I'm starving. what'll it be called?

okay, Top Chef would be proud. Ramen noodles, cold homemade pizza, freshly chopped pineapple, cottage cheese, and purple drank.

So if I work for you can I get at least 50% off? Free would be even better. I'm in.

Will you have yummy coffee at a reasonable price?

I'll come to your deli, Splat, but only if you've got your world famous Hot Beef Injection on the menu.

That sounds painful in so many ways. What gauge needle would you need for a hot beef injection? 1? .1? Sharpened straw?

Depends on who's giving the injection, really. I think it's measured in French, not gauge. Splat's is pretty harmless, I hear.

Those McDonald's straws are pretty strong and girthy. You might try one of those.

I see the gauntlet has been thrown down!

My thumb awaits your challenge...👍

Have you ever seen my thumbs? Remind me to show you... they're... freakishly small.
