I know I shouldn't complain since thus far I've been ridiculously fortunate, but how the hell am I going to go to all of these and still do well in class and make progress in the lab?

Yeah I know. Thats probably because we have nearly identical stats (I just made an MDapplicant profile). I am going to submit Vanderbilt by tomorrow and Northwestern by the end of the week. I think I am going to withdraw from Duke. I don't have any more time to spend on secondaries.

You're not kidding about classes. To top it all off, I am presenting a poster in a conference in L.A. the weekend before Wash U. Interview. I have just come to accept that my GPA is going to drop this semester (like it even matters anymore)!

I think Publications as an undergrad are pretty arbitrary in the sense that they are heavily dependent on the point at which you get involved in a project. I lucked out and worked with a post doc who is trying to crank out papers and get his first faculty position.

Either way, your interview invites speak for themself.

Hey is it true that Wash U informs applicants of an acceptance or rejection a week after the interview? An October acceptance would be unbelievably sweet. I look forward to the day when I can start rejecting interviews.

I did talk to Lindsay, on the second try. The program really seems to be on the ball, and that makes our lives a heck of a lot easier. I'm glad we have fairly explicit instructions, and I'm also pretty pumped about the "faculty wish list." I need to sit down and figure out who I want to meet. Decisions, decisions...

I might have to decline my TAMHSC offer becuase it conflicts with the Baylor interview... and I can't reschedule any of other interviews.... Does anyone think it's advisable to get from College Station on the night of 10/04 to Houston, and (really unfortunately) miss the MSTP director dinner?

Oh my, solitude you're good. If only I can get your Yale/ Michigan/ Cornell... speaking of applying early, I applied extremely early but didn't hear back from the three schools listed above. Well... I am still happy with the ones I have and am looking forward to some more! :luck:

Don't worry, I'm sure you will hear from them shortly! I literally don't think I could have possibly applied any earlier to any school, so I think that's why I'm hearing before some others.

First off, its nice to type in this thread without spamming it.

I have question about the interview procedure. My dad just told me that the letter came to my house (a couple of hours away) and I can't get to it until this weekend. He said something about a faculty book and people I'd like to meet with. Is this something I need to decide before I call to confirm my interview, or can I call tomorrow and confirm?

As nice as it is to think that, you are, without a doubt, an insanely competitive applicant. So far JHU and Yale have extended interview offers to you and not myself when I believe we were both contacted about being 'under review' at the same time. I'm not saying that since I haven't heard I'm automatically rejected - I'm just saying that there comes a time when it's not all about when someone was complete at a specific school.

Ironically, MSTPbound and I ended up being roomies at NYU (and, I should add, our 28th floor view of both the East River and Downtown was amazing 😛)...wonder who we'll all end up staying with in New Rochelle :-D. It would be funny (and majorly awesome) if the entire interview delegation ended up being the SDN family!

Yeah that's true. Given Maebea's prior comments, I really have no idea why I'm having so much luck (so far) as your stats are clearly above the threshold for every school out there. I think there is just a lot of serendipidity in this process: when does that last faculty reader get around to reading your app and sending it to the committee, whether your research is appealing, etc. My understanding is that most schools will often invite some people to interview and delay making a decision about offering others an interview, so you shouldn't give up hope! This is going to be a long year for all of us and just because 1 or 2 lucky ones on the board have been invited to interview doesn't mean that you and others won't get an invite in a day, week, month, etc.

I hope this is semi-coherent, I'm really sick and I have an exam tomorrow 😱.

Bwahaha, I have some sort of food poisoning and managed to drag myself to Biochem lecture and lab today, as well as a gene therapy seminar. I sort of hope it's the flu, and I infected everyone, as a big "F U" to my school for not going insanely high-tech and having podcasts of everything, like a medical school...

Agreed on the emoticon. At least you have interviews though.... As each day passes I am getting more and more worried. Logically, I know you and solitude were complete at least a month before me, but its hard. I am really putting myself out on a limb here and I'm honestly scared s**tless. :scared:

Wow, I feel old now. I had to google "QFT". I will assume you mean "quoted for truth" and not "quit f**king talking", which I am guessing is a good assumption 🙂. Gosh, such ambiguity in internet slang. Actually this reminds me of when my freshman mentee sent me a text message with a bunch of text lingo I didn't understand. Who knew you could feel so behind the times at 22!

Anyway, thanks j and pennquaker for the encouragement. It's just hard once you are so invested in something, which I am sure you both can relate to. This time between secondaries and interview invites is agonizing! Good luck though with your upcoming interviews!

I can totally sympathize OncDoc. I sent in most of my secondaries last week and am way jealous of all these guys and gals with interviews already (congrats to all of you, btw, a very strong early showing). Hopefully our time will come sooner rather than later.
 
I once saw QFT in a thread and had to look it up - I think wikipedia had the definition. It's pretty good for when you want to emphasize or support someone else's comment.
