***Official Not Accepted Anywhere on Dec. 1st Thread***

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was just wondering, has anyone received a rejection from Louisville this year? It seems like everyone on SDN who has interviewed there has been accepted or waitlisted (NTBC list) but has anyone been rejected or is the NTBC list huge?

Got mine today, after Dr. Babbage told me in my exit interview that I was pretty much in. 👎

Got in to Columbia today!! one of my top two. NYC is only about a million times bigger than the town i grew up in!

Uh oh she told me the same thing!

She gave some BS line about how hard I had worked to get into dental school and how in the past I had just flown under the radar of other dental schools but not Louisville, and she was going to change that. My dad is a dentist and she said something like, I know that your dad is looking for his son to come and take over his practice and we are going to make it happen. Then she looked right at me and I quote, "I hope you are reading into the words I am saying." So you would think I would get accepted... not denied. Oh well I. I am 3rd on the alternate list at Oklahoma, waitlisted at Marquette (whatever that means), I have an interview at Creighton on Dec 10, another interview at Midwestern on Jan 12 (where I am doing my masters) So I hope things work out and maybe I just wasn't meant to go to Louisville.

I honestly don't know either...one thing that all the FSU people I know who got accepted have in common is that they're all officers in the pre-dental society, and with like 10 officers (half of which don't do much), it's really not that big of an honor...haha I am just trying to think of reasons why they all got in and I didn't.

You have the right stats and I'm sure you've done a ton of extra currics. Have you asked them why they rejected you? Last year, I had emailed most of the schools asking what I need to work on in my application and what suggestions they might give me. That helped me a lot. Also, Its still early on so don't worry too much about the reasons why your friends got in and you didn't. That will just be a huge burden on you and your personality! Just keep your head up! You'll hear from more schools soon, and possibly more interviews! Dont worry. I was in the same boat as you last year. Just keep on truckin'

I had heard about people calling and finding out about why they were rejected in the past, but I feel like it might still be too early to start bugging them...right? If I could, I would love to know what specifically they think I could improve for future interviews, or for next year (if I need to reapply, which I am not worried about...yet)! Anyway, I have a Midwestern interview in a couple weeks, so I am trying to focus on kicking major butt there! :xf:

Just got my rejection letter from NYU... ahh wtf is goin on.

This is gettin kinda depressing.

interviewed at 2 schools, no accepted, my third time applying... sigh another day like this... what am i going to do?

gonna sit in a corner and cry now 🙁

This was my third application cycle too. Keep your chin up. Honestly if you already interviewed at 2 schools, and you still have more applications out there you're probably in good shape.

me too i dont know wtf is going on...
Hey, did you guys interview?

And is there anyone who hasn't heard from NYU yet?? Just curious how long it takes for all their letters to be sent out.

no interview thats what i dont understand..

I am EXTREMELY curious why you didn't get an offer Victoria. Not only that, you were rejected? What the ****? Here's my (extremely inaccurate and potentially offensive) take on what happened. You had better stats and better everything compared to your FSU comrades, yes. However, since you go to FSU, you are smoking hot. your confidence and high[er-than-average]-pitched voice came off as snobbish or bratty. The people interviewing you were jealous.

I think she was over qualified and her school didn't think she would matriculate if she WAS accepted.
I would be very surprised if she doesn't get in to any scohol this cycle given her strong stats.

Haha, why would an in-state institution every think that a resident was over qualified?? Most Floridians who get into Florida will go because of price alone (and it's a good school). Victoria definitely has great stats and will eventually get in, but the overqualified excuse doesn't apply here.

lol what the....???? Never been to Florida so I wouldn't know anything about FSU girls' voices.

1. First of all, I just want to say thanks to everyone for posting. It sucks admitting that you weren't accepted on Dec 1st (myself included), even if it is anonymously, but it does make me feel better to know there are other applicants that have competitive applications and didn't get in. I feel like I am not alone!

2. As sh**ty as it is to hear, we just have to trust that it is still early in the game and we will continue to have more interview opportunities and chances to get in. I know, its easy for everyone to say that already has their admissions letter in hand, but its true.

3. Something that made me feel better was having a plan B. I didn't like to think about a plan B until I had to, but nonetheless. I have decided that I will (even more seriously now) consider Teach for America. Just simply HAVING that resolution took a huge weight off my chest, even more so when my parents supported my decision. The worst part about the few days after December 1st was the unknown, that "what now?" feeling. Having a plan in hand at least gives me something to focus on and a goal to work towards.

Besides, sitting around and stressing doesn't do much good. Let's instead start to focus on finals and stay positive.

Well said. "The worst part about the few days after December 1st was the unknown, that "what now?" feeling." That, indeed, is the worst part :scared:

I am in the same boat. Only 1 pre-dec interview @ Temple...and hoping to hear from them soon... Let's be positive!

I'm still 'under review' everywhere. Ack.
Yes, my undergrad GPA stinks up the place, but that was 10 years ago! I'm ready for it now...someone please give me the chance!

It's really hard that we're all in this situation, but it also makes me feel better reading this forum. I kept going back to the official acceptance thread. Bad idea. Pity party! Ha! I'm feeling a little better. This is my first time applying, so I suppose if I need to reapply at least I know the game a little better. I'm in my 6th year of undergrad, I got an AAS degree in graphic design my first 2 years, and now I'm just so ready to move on to the next phase of my life! Keep telling myself that there are worse things. I've had enough life experience to know that. Whatever doesn't kill us makes us stronger. We will all make it into dental school eventually. Still, this sucks! I had one interview this year at Iowa, and I'm still waiting to hear from MN, MI, and Marquette. What a difficult wait!

Yea I live in the midwest, and I interviewed at NYU in october. I dont know what the deal is, people in california are getting mail from them. Some others mentioned that NYU may send rejection letters after acceptances. good luck

does anyone know what is the general ratio seats/applicants in the country. Like I know that in medicine there ~30000 applicants and only 16000seats.

I'm pretty sure it's a 3:1 ratio where as med school is 2:1. I don't know exact numbers though. I remember hearing something at an interview like 9,000+ applicants for 3,000+ spots. Correct me if you have heard otherwise.

** Alright so doc's most recent data shows a 2.9 ratio. I was off on my numbers, but close to the ratio.**

dude it sucks because I was pretty confident that I was going to be accepted but wth... whatever~ I still got few interviews coming up.. by the way, does anyone know what it means by alternate list? is this same as waiting list???

ddsshin

You have great stats and will get in somewhere. When did you interview at Western? As far as the alternate list and waiting list, I think they are the same thing but have read some posts where some people think that being on the alternate list is more promising for an acceptance offer than a waiting list.

this waiting sucksssss

Ugh yeah it does...I've been keeping fairly distracted with studying for finals this week...but after Thursday I will probably start getting impatient again lol

waiting does suck...especially since we have no idea howlong we are going to have to wait...🙁

ive been trying so hard for this, as we all have.

ive been super depressed latey...hardly been able to sleep or concentrate

tho i wish the best of luck to all of you...i hope we all get a phone call soon:xf:

arggggggg, 5 schools down, 10 more to go. WHY DON'T THEY GIVE ME A SHOT!?! all they said last year was to apply earlier than I did last year (october) and it'd be all easy peezy. FALSE!

5 down as in 5 rejections? Where did you interview? What's your GPA (cause those DAT scores are great)? And what are the other 5?

It is roughly 5000 seats being sought after by 15000 applicants.......like someone said above a 3:1 ratio.
