Early? You betcha, but there are some folks on here who have already made up their minds to attend- I am one of them.

I'm about 90% in. Love the school but I'm still waiting to hear from Columbia -- it'll be hard to turn down those specialty placement rates at 50k less cost. But I withdrew from everywhere else because I really do love NYU!
 
I've also pretty much decided on NYU too. My mouth smells (aka Halitosis, worse with xerostomia [dry mouth])--> I'll see you guys there.

Hope I don't treat too many patients with bad breath. But looking at NYU's massive patient pool, which includes those from Brooklyn, Queens, Harlem and the Bronx, I guess I'm out of luck😛

Basically the same here...i'm about 90% in. I'm just waiting to see if a couple of schools I interviewed at take me off the waitlist..although I dont think it'll happen. No big deal though, I'd be happy to attend NYU. So i'm sure i'll be adding my name to that list in the coming weeks

BUMP. Never been much of a facebook user (forgot my user ID😛 ), however, just want to see who else is out there going to NYU.
 
Me too. Any New Yorkers have suggestions as to where I should look for a place? I am married, and my wife is due in June with our first child. Needless to say that is going to make for an interesting move... Any suggestions would be helpful. How big the apartments are, cost, time of travel to school, etc. I have lived a sheltered life in Utah...
 
Check NYU off-campus housing: http://www.nyu.edu/housing/offcampus/ You might need your NYU ID. . . See if you can get it.

look in nytimes.

housing in that area, 1800 1br (prob 600sq ft max), 2400/2br, 3500 for 3br (rare)... all will be smallish.
you can find better deals, but youd have to look on Craigslist, Village Voice.

Most likely will deal w/broker, so will have broker fee.
Elec + gas = 70+/month.
Cable is 50 for internet, 90 for TV+Internet (1TV, Digital Cable (140 channels of crap))
 
Thanks for the info! Do many people live in other places and commute, such as Staten Island, Queens, etc? Is the difference in price worth commuting as opposed to living close? I appreciate all the help.

Very thrilled to be there in nyu and nyc!! We all share the pain of huge loan!! To answer the question above, I choose NYUCD over 5 other schools, which includes Tufts. I posted my reasons in another thread before, PM me if you want to know the details.

I'll definitely show up once I get off the waitlist and I'm sure my fellow waitlistees agree with that too, right guys? Either way I'm showing up on the first day of class whether they call me or not, heck, we'll even camp outside if we have to 😀

I will be headed to NYU in August, very excited about it. I am also married with one kid so any housing recommendations would be appericiated. I have heard from some that Brooklyn and Queens are both doable (I think I would take the L line to NYU?) but I dont really know the ups and downs of each.
 
So I *finally* managed to activate my NetID (there was a problem with my account, but it's been fixed)... but I can't seem to log in to NYUHome. Am I supposed to be able to do this, or do I have to wait until I've been registered for classes?
 
drdoodle, you should be able to log in and check your email amongst other things. Just make sure you're typing your Net ID correctly (without @nyu.edu). Password may be case sensitive. I know these may seem trivial things but I can't think of anything else.
 
When I try to log in, I get a message saying "Sorry, you may not log in at this time. You are ineligible for an NYUHome Account." I called the number at the bottom of the screen for help, and was told that I can't log in and am ineligible becoz I haven't registered for classes yet. But if other people can log in, then what am I doing wrong?

I live in NYC, and am applying to NYU for 2008 cycle. Anyway, as for housing, both Queens and Brooklyn are good choices. NYU is in the East 20s and would be easily accessible from both Queens and Brooklyn. I'd suggest checking out Astoria in Queens (lots of young families, good restaurants too if you like Greek food!) and Brooklyn Heights & Williamsburg in Brooklyn... they are all very nice areas.

Be careful though- both Brooklyn and Queens are large boroughs and definitely have some not-so-great areas, so I'd definitely do a bunch of research before moving! Good luck!
 
Many of my friends who work in NYC rent apartments in Jersey City in NJ and take the PATH train to get to and from the city (btw, if you're not from the tri-state area, get used to people referring to NYC as "the city" as though there's only one city that exists in the Northeast!); I'm not sure how "family friendly" the area is but NJ has done a fairly good job of cleaning it up (it used to be terrible) and tons of young singles/professionals are renting or buying up property there coz it's considerably cheaper than living in Manhattan. It's at least worth looking into 🙄

Did you guys get the summer research info in the mail yesterday? Are any of you planning on doing it?

Mack, glad to hear you're going to NYU. Join our facebook group if you haven't already (if you have fb). As for the summer research info, I haven't received it yet. Did they send the info by regular mail or express?

I think if you plan on specializing, it's a good thing to do as there is no summer gap/vacation between D1 and D2 for us. However, that also means added living expenses unless they offer a stipend.
 
Yeah, I'm on the facebook group. Pretty psyched about how much Florida representation we're going to have in the city.

It came standard mail with a couple other pieces of paper on the 5 year MPH/DDS. I'd love to do some research, but I don't think there's any way I can't work my arse off at my job until August... I'm planning on shooting them an email though to let them know that I'm really interested and to see what my options are come the fall.

Anyone going to do the summer research program? It sound pretty interesting!
 
Hey guys! Did any one of you hear anything about the new program that NYU is going to start next year? I know few people that interviewed recently but they did not say anything about it. My other friend is a student and the faculty is talking about it. They are planing to combine all the science classes into one and give one big test at the end. DId anyone hear anything about it? I guess they're trying to prepare students for the boards or something...

Has anyone heard from NYU in regard to housing?
 
I believe the housing form is due May 1.
 
Yeah the housing interest form is due May 1st, but I'm anxious to know when they'll send out a letter stating if those who submitted the form are eligible to apply for housing.

My concern is what happens to those on the waitlist, once they're accepted. We haven't received any info or anything related to housing. Do we still have to submit a form by May 1st and if so, what do we have to do if anything?
