After seeing about three of these in a row, I thought it would be nice to make a place for all those who are nervous and/or insecure about their stats to ask the community. Enh, I don't even know if it will work, but it had to be done.

I did some TAing, volunteering and shadowing but dont feel my personal statement is particularly good.
My application was submitted to AADSAS like late august and i haven't sent out the checks to checks and photos to the colleges yet.

columbia will love you. they are all about high dat scores and yours are pretty stellar. Don't wory about your personal statement... unless you really messed it up, I don't think it can hurt you with those stats.

I could use some outside perspective. My gpa and overall DAT are in my sig. My DAT breakdown is:

AA 21 TS 21 Bio 21 Reading 23 Ochem 29 QR 14 Gchem 19 PAT 18

So the 14 QR will most likely disqualify me at OHSU, UNLV and UoP according to the e-mails I received back. No other schools said that I was automatically out. I have one interview from NOVA and I took my DAT on 8/23. I am still hoping for interviews from Temple, Arizona, USC, NYU, and Columbia (?). I don't really know much about New Jersey or VCU so they are kind of wildcard for me. Do I have a shot at hearding from these schools? I am out at OHSU because they have a 15 cut off.

Hey Yellow, those other schools you mentioned, do they have a cutoff? did you call them? I believe QR is the least important section..however a 14 is pretty low so im not sure how much that will hurt you. having said that, your overal package is strong so i would be surprised if you did not get in.

Everyone else has given me a range of answers from "you will not be automatically disqualified" to "you're scores are totally fine".

I haven't received any rejections. I e-mailed asking if my 14 would be a problem. My post is in reference to the responses received to that e-mail.

You didnt name which schools, so its hard to say. assuming you applied to a variety of schools, i would say pretty good 👍

It may just be me, but it seems like a lot of people apply so late! I know it seems a little rediculous, but I tend to think that applying early makes a bigger difference than your scores!

I know this is not even remotely true, but I have more than one friend that had a great gpa, and great dat and didn't get many interviews. For example: a 22 on the DAT, a 3.9 science, and applied in late june, and only got 1 interview.

Whereas, I know people with far worse scores that got many interviews. In my opinion, don't send your application in any later than 3 weeks after May 15th, and don't take your DAT any later then the 1st week of september.

I know therea are exceptions to these situations, but over all I have seen those that applied within this criteria do much better than those that didn't

I am glad you mentioned UNLV as telling you "no" b/c i have been waiting on them. I guess if they told you 14 wasnt good enough, then 13 wont do me much good. I have only one interview from temple. i am banking on NYU, Boston, USC, or Tufts. I dont see marquette, Tufts, or VCU panning out for me. Bascially i am desperate for any school, no matter the cost. I am an AZ resident as well. I have 20AA/21TS/17PAT the 17 is also sorting hurting me. I think i am gonna get into dental school through the backdoor, like a late invite or something.

AADSAS submited: june 5, aadsas mailed out: july 17, dat: aug 8

my dat score was the last thing in, they got my scores by Aug 22. so I have been done and waiting since aug 22.

For those interested, word back from NOVA is that interviews are booked until March. My early Feb. isn't looking too bad anymore.

I'm just curious to know when you all took the DAT? Did you take it immediately after your science courses, or was there a lapse in time? I had to wait 1 1/2 years after finishing chemistry to take mine due to life issues. I spent two months re-teaching myself and trying to remember everything, and I obtained decent scores, but they look really pathetic next to all the 20 something's on this site. Here are my stats: TS/17 AA/17 PAT/18 I believe my GPA is 3.97. It was 4.0 until the A- in BioChem and Physics I. By the way, I have an interview 9/30 at OSU.

No, I'm from Ohio. I think my GPA really offsets my DAT scores and the rest of my qualifications are outstanding. That is probably why I have an interview. I'm also a dental assistant, so I know the dental profession really well.

What do think about my chances?

I'm a non-traditional applicant - graduated in 2003 and have been working for 3 years in a clinical psychology clinic - lots of research/patient experience, but not heavy on the dental aspect. I have average e.c.'s but probably better than average rec's.

My undergraduate GPA is an abysmal 3.17 and BCP is 3.0 (but at top 10 undergrad school...). I have been taking a few more courses the past year at my state school (Orgo, Anat.&Phys, Genetics) and have gotten all A's.

My DATs are AA21, TS20, Bio20, GenChem21, Org21, RC24, QR21, PA21.

I'm applying to UNC, VCU, MUSC, UTENN, UMD, UK.

People in my family are saying that I should just find another field. However I'm determined to get in one way or the other.

i was at the dental school a couple days ago and the lady told me they have barely looked instate applications. you're lucky you have an interview that early.

Whoa, those scores are really low to be honest. No doubt you'l have to retake the DATs, those scores arent even close to average. as for your gpa, i guess a post bac would be your only shot. No, i do not believe any school anywhere would take those scores. sorry for being direct. gl.
