i am 90% sure i'll be withdrawing from penn state either way, but i'd like to find out my status at msu-chm before i make the decision

Anybody having a really, really hard time withdrawing from schools?

I know I should drop Pitt, and there are people out there who are dying for my spot, but I just can't bring myself to do it. UPMC is a great hospital and Pittsburgh is a pretty interesting, though not amazing, city.

But I'm pretty sure they won't make it to the top of my list. Is it better to wait on it (2nd Look + Financial Info) , or just git'er done now?

It is really hard to decide. I am holding out until I get a better feel for the financial aid situation from the schools I am in at, not to mention, there are still a couple schools that I am waiting to hear back from post-interview...that makes the decision to drop now even more difficult.

It would be interesting to know what % of acceptees at this point hold multiple acceptances.

I would guess the number is fairly high (maybe 50%??? complete guess of course) at this point in the game.

Lots of hope for those on waitlists.

I know I should drop Pitt, and there are people out there who are dying for my spot, but I just can't bring myself to do it. UPMC is a great hospital and Pittsburgh is a pretty interesting, though not amazing, city.

But I'm pretty sure they won't make it to the top of my list. Is it better to wait on it (2nd Look + Financial Info) , or just git'er done now?

Well, you're currently holding acceptances at:

Johns Hopkins University
Stanford University
University of California, San Francisco
University of Michigan
University of Pittsburgh
Vanderbilt University

If you know Pitt definitely won't "make it to the top" of your list, then yes, you should withdraw. If you think a second look or financial info would really make a difference in comparison to the other acceptances you're holding, then you should probably hold onto Pitt. Unless you still really can't imagine going there over some of the other schools.

And it looks like you're also waiting on a decision from Duke, Harvard, Penn and Yale. Imagine getting waitlisted at your top choice, and someone is sitting on that acceptance, with absolutely no intention of going. What would you hope that they'd do? Then again, if they were still seriously considering that school, it's more than understandable they'd hang onto the acceptance.
 
I am going to withdraw from a school, but I am wondering how you guys did it. Did you call, email, or send a formal letter? I also want my deposit back, so I am wondering what is the best way to do it!

you can call to make sure, but they will usually want it in writing (either email or snail mail)
