As others have said:

Explosions in the Sky
Mogwai

That Tron soundtrack is amazing
Mixing in some Jazz and Classical is always good (see: Bach, Mozart, Coltrane)
Sometimes Vitamin String Quartet

The name of the group is Designer Drugs. I'm a 4th year at WVSOM. I'd paste the link but....

I like to mix it up with Jazz or something punk-like, depending on if I need to relax and absorb or get pumped up.

Yusef Lateef - Eastern Sounds (if I could only listen to one thing on repeat for all of my studying it would be this album)

Braid - Frame and Canvas (nice mid-tempo)

LaGrecia - On Parallels (great for getting pumped up. I love to listen to the last song right before an exam or whenever I'm feeling down)

Thelonius Monk - Monk (basically just switch Eastern Sounds out with this and with Coltrane occasionally)

Twelve Hour Turn - Perfect Progress, Perfect Destruction

Sunny Day Real Estate - Dairy Demos

Leatherface - Mush (maybe the greatest album ever recorded?)

That drives me f****** insane.

Oh and also add the entire Final Fantasy 7 soundtrack to the list.

Did not expect the first post to be Fleshgod Apocalypse 👍

I like to throw in a little Blind Guardian, Korpiklaani, Alestorm, and Turisas as well.

^^This song in particular gets me incredibly motivated.

Aphex Twin/Authechre/Proem - type stuff

Free jazz

But right now I'm listening to Ryan Adams's album Cold Roses

Feel good lost (album) by broken social scene --- LOVE LOVE LOVE this album... great music to study

Singing Under the Rainbow by World's End Girlfriend

The lemon of pink (song or album) by the Books

Anything you can find by boards of Canada

Also, if you like radiohead there is a guy named Christopher O'Riley that does awesome piano instrumental covers of their songs. He has two albums worth of them.

I'm a big fan of Hammock. They make ambient guitar music - very relaxing and non-distracting for studying. A "typical" song would be Mono No Aware. Worth checking out if you're into more bizarre music.

(sent from my phone - please forgive typos and brevity)

Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, Do Make Say Think, Johann Johannsson, Clint Mansell (especially the Fountain OST), Max Richter, Stars of the Lid, Eluvium, Helios, and Tim Hecker are my study go-tos. I can't stand vocals in music when studying.

When I'm not studying I'm more into the National, Walkmen, Frightened Rabbit-esque "post"-post-punk stuff.

Has no one mentioned Ratatat, seriously?

Also, Sigur Ros.
Phoenix
Most anything classical

How about Boards of Canada? I haven't personally tried to listen to them while studying, but it could work.

I like to listen to them when I'm in repetitive study mode --- wouldn't put them on when I'm looking at something for the first time

It's all about linkin park and david guetta while studying. All rise, keeps you amped up.
