Is anybody looking for a roommate/roommates? I am a male, 22 years old, from miami, and need somewhere to stay. Preferably Center City. ???????

Yeah i think i am. Im 23, from colorado, very easy going. Its either CC or manayunk w/ a friend who lives out there ( i need to talk to him ). But i think im actually thinking on living in CC my first year. So i am definitely interested.

I have never had a problem w/ a roomate, i just like clean kitchens and bathrooms. It seems like in the past im always cleaning those areas. but its probably because thats where i make the biggest mess.

Side note: Does anyone know of temple students living w/ penn students in Central City? That may be fun, just so i can mix my self up in a huge group of people.

Oh yeah and indoor soccer.... niceeeeeeeee.

I think i mentioned this before but im not searching 7 pages to find it. Anyone know anything about intramurals. Im in for soccer, indoor/outdoor, volleyball, softball, football, and well anything else.

And is that a full gym in the basement or just a nice little small one? I dont remember it.

Have u guys found any places yet? Price (utils), location, rooms/baths, ...

I might also be down for some roommates in CC. 22yr male, like to have a good time but also get my work done. roommates must be rock band and beer pong compatible. my room is messy, but i am a freak about the kitchen, living room and Bathrooms as well.

Anybody ride a bike(motorcycle)? I plan on living in CC, and originally planned on taking subway to school - and am hesitant to ride to school on my bike. Philly traffic would probably get me killed with all the crazy drivers.

In undergrad I use to do amatuer track racing with a little stripped down honda CBR600 streetbike, but have since moved to a naked bike (Triumph Street Triple 675). City riding on the Triumph is much easier!

I really love this bike, and do not want to get rid of it for school 🙁 I just don't know if it is smart to ride during the winter months and with crazy drivers.

Awesome. I wondered if anyone in our class was into motorcycles. I used to have a 600 as well (01 ZX-6R) that i used to take to track days and the local mountains here in california. Since i did a lot of commuting on the 600 i figured i should get something a little more geared toward that. Sold the 600 about 9 months ago and picked up an 03 Ducati monster 800. Great minds think alike i guess.

I'm planning on taking the monster with me and seeing "how it goes". Depening on where i end up living will probably determine whether i can take the subway, ride the motorcycle or some combination of the two, or maby just sell it completely (that is the last option.) Either way, i'm down to go for some rides through rural PA.

badass, total badass. 😎

ANYONE WANT TO TAKE THE SUBWAY/BUS WITH ME? I'm not cool enough for a vehicle.

It was my first time on a bike riding that 1000, but let me tell you, when i got the hang of it it was a BLAST. 145 top speed but my buddy said he got it to 160 (i cant imagine the wind). FOrtunately i do not have a bike because i would be dead. I have also ridden a cbr600.

Hey guys,

not sure how much rent is going for these days but a nice apartment building in CC is City View... don't know how expensive they are though. I do know however it is right off of Spring Garden and that you can easily access the school.

Look on craigs list and check all areas of the city. Art museum, south street, if you are wanting to go on the less expensive side of CC don't look in rittenhouse... it tends to be the most expensive.

thanks, does city view have alot of students? Do u know anyone that lives there already?

i am going to philly mid june to look for housing.

about myself:
i'm male, 23 years old. i'm a clean freak (i like keeping everything clean), i'm very studious, i only drink beers every so often, i'm don't go out too much. i plan on studying a lot while in dental school so i can keep my options open in case i want to specialize.

plus i always pitch in my share of cleaning, community apt things, etc...

There are alot of younger people, I don't know if they are students... There are some families that live in the larger apartments... but over-all its fairly quiet (good for studying)... there is also a gym and a pool on site that from what i understand are included in condo fees. I know there is parking on-site if you have a car, some units offer it with their condos or you can rent,

Again, I don;t know how much the rent is going for these days.My brother lived there during law school, and I will be living there most likely during dental school.

There is also a building called "the sterling" which alot of young people live in also. also fairly close to broad... i think its 19th and jfk.

Is anyone really considering doing the joint DMD/MBA program? I know it'd be hard to say for sure now since we'll all have to see how much work dental really is, but it seems like an interesting program since most dentists run their own practices. Anyone speak with any students doing the joint program?

has anyone heard back from the fin aid office if you already filled out your FAFSA?......

im not so sure...but i heard that if you do the dual DMD/MBA at the Fox Business School and complete the program...then its basically a free MBA, but if you attempt the program and decide not to complete it then you will owe the business school tuition.....i would do it...but i am thinking about specializing so basically i have to cram DMD/M.S. in 4 years....so I don't think I can fit a MBA....maybe after I graduate I can take a MBA night courses...

I called the financial aid office after I found out my FAFSA was processed about a week ago. They told me I had to send in my federal income tax return and my W-2, along with those of my mom. This didn't seem to be directed for my application in particular either. I basically asked, "I did my FAFSA, now what?" I'm not planning on getting any free money from Temple, you pretty much have to be a super genius or dirt poor to usually get that, but I'm trying to get my Stafford loan info squared away.

On another note, anyone start looking for apts. in Philly, I mean actually visiting them yet? If so, any recommendations? Most likely looking for something in CC so as to be convenient for going to school and for my gf who will probably be working downtown as well.

did you receive the housing packet? im down to get one of those 3-4 bedroom apartments... basically it would be like $500 per person which isnt bad and i dont think utilities would be too bad either...probably $30-40 bucks per person....

I just got back from Philly yesterday in search of housing. I spent 3 days up there pretty much walking around the entire city and viewing about 25 different apartments/townhouses/rowhouses, ect. If you are planning on living in CC, good luck finding anything under $850 for 1 BR. You can find cheaper for a 2/3/4 BR - but not by much. Before going up there, I made note of all the place I wanted to see (craiglist, ect) - but seeing them on the internet and seeing them in person are two different things. A reasonable price for a 2 BR is around $1600-2200, and 3 BR for around $2000+.

Anything close to the Broad St. Line that is north of South St. is going to run very expensive. I looked at a RUN DOWN 2 BR apartment for $2500 a month that was one block from Broad St. I would highly highly recommend looking for a place that is north of South Street unless it is in the Bella Vista area. Try to stay in proximity of 4 blocks to Broad St. or Market line.

Also, try to stay south of Vine St. The neighborhoods change very fast, and it is convenient to be close to all the shops and restaurants. Rittenhouse, Art Museum, Logan Square, washington square, fitler square are all great places in CC to look.

I agree. Anything worth living in CC is going to run $850 at the very least per person. Most of the good renovated places on the "tree streets" (Locust, Spruce, Pine, Delancy) are going to run out fast come June. That is prime time when everyone goes up to look, so it is a scramble and picked over.

There is a small area of CC that I prefer, which is def. the tree streets surrounding Rittenhouse. You can't beat the "community feel", and convenience of all the great shops/restaurants. Def. stay north of South street and south of Vine. I would even go so far as to say stay out of the east part of CC like old city and the "gentrified" areas north of Vine. You can live there, but I wouldn't :scared:

Living in CC is great though -rent is higher, but I save a TON on car insurance/gas that went up 4X from where I normally live. I said screw that, and decided to live without a car in CC. Even at 1100 a month I save more money than a lot of people living outside the city with cars 😀

So im really stuck between roxbourough and CC. I think living in the city would be amazing and fun, but i do have a car and plan on keeping it. However i dont plan on using it much, only to and from my friends who live in the area and for mountain biking.

_____

Does anyone know how much a 3 or 4 bdrm would cost each person in center city. I would be fine with going this route.

Its either between living with a friend out there, just the two of us in roxbourough, or living with some dental students which may be best (it would be helpful to have that little extra motivation and similar schedules)

I know we have done this before, but if anyone is serious about sharing a place in CC let me know. Again heres info bout me:

From colorado, 23 male, very relaxed, my last time i shared an apt i was the one who cleaned the bathroom and kitchen (it sucks when its everytime, but i have no problem doing it as long as others do their part).. I dont care if guys or girls are roomates. I like going out (assuming i have time to) whether its to the bars or a nice cheap place for food/beer, watch football on sundays, and like to play outside. And by playing i mean basically anything (football, soccer, running, biking, etc) And i feel like i just posted a personal ad in the newspaper or CL.

Oh and it woudl be awesome to be roomates with someone who lifts every day or just about so i can have a lifting partner. its nice to have a friend who motivate you to go to the gyme.

3 BRs run from $2000+. Keep in mind that $2000 is low....and most likely in a shady area of town i.e. south of South St.(grad hospital) or Fishtown/North Fairmount. So expect to pay $700 per person MAYBE 600, but that is pushing it into a bad area of CC. Keep in mind that this is not including electric and/or internet.

I know of a person who just signed a lease for a nicely renovated 3 BR rowhouse on 16th and Christian (Graduate Hospital area) for $2,000. The inside is amazing.....but I felt scared for my life walking the streets in that area. I could never live there no matter how nicely renovated the inside was. Walk 5 blocks north, and you are in a completely different neighborhood that has tree-lined streets/parks/shops/5 star restaurants - but the rent there is like $2900 for a 3 BR. So cost goes up and down depending on the "neighborhood" you choose to live in. Is it worth the extra cost? In my opinion, yes.

Keep in mind you can find cheaper. You can find stuff way cheaper, but I would be very hesitant to live in those areas. Philadelphia has interesting microsized neighborhoods that have clearly defined borders. Certain neighborhoods like Rittenhouse have the highest police presence and community support. In my opinion it pays to stay out of the bad neighborhoods.

im from california, 23 male. at my old apartment i was the one who always clean the bathroom/kitchen area too!...i go out every once in a while and i do enjoy a nice cold beer and some sports watching every so often. also, i do lift weights....been trying to get back into my prime....

i do prefer a 3-4 bedroom apt also to keep the costs down.

It seems that only guys are looking for roommates.. any girls?

I'm really only looking for a 1 br at the moment since I'll be living with my soon to be fiance (she doesn't know, but she doesn't go to this site either and I doubt she'll discover it in the next week and a half😀). If I were going alone, I would totally be up for living in a 2, 3 or 4 br place, but having another person living in a second br would be kind of awkward for some obvious reasons.

As far as neighborhood, that's more of a concern because of my gf. I'm not too worried about myself, I know where I probably shouldn't venture unless possibly accompanied by Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson, but I don't see myself doing that.

I definitely would like to be able to take public transit to school and don't mind having to walk a few blocks to get there, but I probably would like to keep my car for when I venture out of the city on weekends when I have the time. Unfortunately, I think my gf wants to bring her car too and I think that might be excessive if we live in CC.

I called the financial aid office after I found out my FAFSA was processed about a week ago. They told me I had to send in my federal income tax return and my W-2, along with those of my mom.

This was very nice to know. I just called to check up on things..
They have started to send out emails confirming receipt of the second deposit.
You can mail the tax return/w2 forms directly to the financial aid office or fax it to them via (215) 707-2917.

Yesterday i got my housing information from the school and they sent me a HUGE packet of things including: (a)ideas on where to live and who to contact to rent from (b) neighborhoods that are close to different kinds of transit (c) actual apts for rent and even some of there floor plans and perks and (d) if i wanted to be put onto the housing list for student sthat want to be paired up with pthers looking for the same thing. Are you guys going to put your names on that list?
I checked craigslist the other day for some apts but everyone wants tennants for ASAP so i dont see how one could reserve now for august or july without going to visit when the time is getting closer. Soooooo, say if we do find roomates on here that are willing to live with eachother, what do u guys recommend as steps as to go ahead and renting the apt and meeting one another and all that good stuff so when the time comes to move they could just move and have all the plans laid out.

Theres about three or four of us on here that i know are looking for roomates right now. We should go ahead and contact eachother and see if we could find a big 3-4bdrm apt that would be good enough for all of us. Cali, miami, colorodo sounds like a nice mix if you ask me!

very nice mix indeed. im actually visiting philly mid june-ish to look for housing and from the packet they sent us there are some really nice housing....

We need teeth? When and from who did you find this out?

I emailed a few current dental students on the list that Temple gave us. They said students collect their own teeth to use during second year.

On second thought, there isn't much use alerting everyone to collect teeth when we haven't even started classes yet (Temple alerts us, I think). I'm editing that part out.

I have a few friends that might be looking for some roommates starting in July. I know right now he shares his house with 3 other guys, but I believe two of them are moving out, and his girlfriend would be moving in. They are not medical students, however they lived with some before and are respectful.

From what I understand rent would be approx $550 for a pretty decent size room near south street (near jefferson hospital)

I don't know if there is a subway line there, but I know some of my friends who attend temple med lived next door and it seemed to work out for them.

I will try and keep you updated if I hear anything else.

Also... had some free time at work so I decided to research some apartments in Philly that I have friends living in... just to give you some ideas.

Sterling... It is in a good location to get to Temple.
http://www.sterlingapthomes.com/2/Apartments-for-Rent-in-Philadelphia-Pennsylvania/

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/apa/611333009.html

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/apa/570589144.html

City view...(found these on craigs list)

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/apa/592389507.html
(i think it says includes parking... which is HUGE!)... they have parking onsite... and they say parking spots there go for 40,000 so this looked like a good deal for a 2 bedroom

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/apa/591092658.html

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/apa/595627759.html

Not sure about these, I think I had a friend who lived here.... but it looks to be a great location
http://www.4wallsinphilly.com/cc/chatham/chatham.htm

For me, I like the fact that some of these have fitness centers in the buildings... mainly because I doubt I will use Temple's but it is costly to join a gym... and being a girl I like having a doorman... makes me feel safer.

I also looked for proximity to a grocery store.... city view is near a whole food, and a starbucks, and a liqueur store....

ok, so i was reading the packet that they sent us

i know for sure if someone brings a car we can easily be living in roxobourgh (sp?) either at henry at the park (4 bedroom, and rooms are huge) or summit park, summit gardens, woodmere, etc which is roughly $500-$600 a room and probably $40 bucks utilities plus we all pitch in for a parking permit + gas which i wouldnt think is much or we can look at Center City (Rittenhouse Square, Art Museum, Washington Square) and find a place there which I also think wouldnt be too expensive....

any takers?

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/apa/611999215.html 3bed/2.5 bathroom 1975 a month..very nice apt in south philly close to rittenhouse square that comes to be about $660 per person

its a few blocks away from the ellsworth/federal subway on broad st and we can ride it to school and get off at allgheney (sp?)

i'm still searching (and open to a lot of ideas)...but if you need a room mate please PM me...because I need one too...

For the second deposit, do we have to attach any form with the check? i just want to make sure since I don't think they have sent me any kind of form.

I just made a copy of the letter they sent me about the deposit, and sent that back with my check. Had my soc. on the check as well.

So NCAA temple lost today in pepsi center (denver nugs stadium) I was going to go, but i had to work.

Its nice knowing that temple actually has an OK b-ball team. Anyone know about their football team? Also, do grad students get cheap tickets, with the rest of the students... anyone planning on basketball/football tickets.

their football team is horrific. they average around 1 or 2 wins a season, 3 at max. i cant remember the last time the upset any team. Basketball is as close are your gonna get to a good sports team at temple

at least they have a football team. my undergrad (UCI) didn't even have one, but they had a pretty good basketball team.

ahhh who am i kidding, i dont care if they are any good..... i just go for the atmosphere and beer. tailgating woooooooohoooooo

all i needed to know and hear was the word "beer"....lol

It's going to be tough going from an undergraduate school that won two national championships back to back in both football and basketball, to one that barely wins a game in their season 😀

On the positive note, at least the city won't be turned upside down every game.

Being a UCI grad myself, I can't wait to see some college football. Temple has at least improved somewhat, I think they won 5 or so games this year. I don't know so much about UCI basketball, no NCAA tourney appearances or even coming close, if they were in a better conference, they'd be constantly trashed and I say this even though one of my friends was a starting center. They did have one good upset over Stanford when they were ranked in the top 10.
