Oh damn, so WWAMI applicants will know earlier?

Oh, come on big brown envelope....

I don't know if they're doing final wwami decisions this week. I got the impression that it was just more competative list type of stuff. But, good Luck anyway

Oh...the insanity. Oh...the stress. Now I know that med school's going to be like. Anyone waiting for UW who hasn't gotten into some kind of med school yet?

Oh I'm competitive already, just need that acceptance. I have another, but UW would be sooo sweet.

Update:

I just got of the phone with the admissions department and was told the adcom's meeting schedule for the next month. For residents of washington they will meet: Feb. 25th, Mar. 3rd, 10th, and 17th. The final meeting to determine final acceptance, rejected, and waiting list for all applicants will be Mar. 23rd - 25th. So everyone will know their status around the first week of april. She did inform me that no matter what the decision they will send a letter in the mail. Hope this gives everyone a better idea of what's going on. Good Luck to all, it won't be long now... unless you get waitlisted. 🙁

edit: they are currently focusing on the wwami schools as they are in town meeting this week and next.

Thanks for all the details MDmiracle.

WWAMI's (non wash apps.) find out earlier becuase the AdComs are by state and only meet right after they have interviews. They are only interviewed on certain days and are notified of acceptance/comp list/reject within a week. After the second round of interviews everyone knows where they stand (I think this week in feb.), as they have interviewed everyone they are going to interview from that particular state. (Does this make sense...geez, could I make it sound any more confusing?) At least, that is what they told us at the interview.

Ok, so I know this is a little obsessive of a question (and everyone should be used to this by now) but I'm curious to know if it means anything that I've been on the competitive list since the first meeting. I had my interview on Oct 1st and haven't gotten in yet, so does that mean my chances are less than somebody who was put in the pool in say . . . Feb or Jan? Anyone have any insight into this? THanks!

I am in the same boat, so i don't think that the chances are any worse or better. Just keep in mind that they thought you were good enough to giver you an interview that early.

Yeah that'd be me....

Is anyone here an undergrad at UW? I'm graduating in June....

I'm not but I'm on campus pretty much every day.

someone mentioned "big brown envelope..." -- i was under the impression acceptances/rejections/waitlist/etc. all arrived in the same envelope.

Dr. Hunt said both rejections and acceptances come in a white envelope, but many people have posted that their acceptances come in manilla envelopes....

I'll let you know when I get one or the other- I'm a WWAMI, so I should know in the next couple weeks..

(WA?) Acceptances come in big brown envelopes. They contain:
- a letter saying "Congrats"
- a small packet with acceptance confirmation information
- a big packet with Pullman information (maybe only for WA residents)

Does anyone know for sure if they send out WWAMI acceptances/rejects right after the final state adcom meeting? Or so they wait until they mail out all of them in March? I know that the final adcom meeting for my WWAMI state was last week, so I could be hearing fairly soon?

Melmc- We were told on Friday (20th) that they would be sending letters out with the final decision after the state's excom meeting. I know Alaska's meeting was Friday night, and they mentioned that they were understanding about getting phone calls the next (working?) day, although she cautioned that all of the people so far that had called had received bad news. Very understanding of the anxiety plaguing applicants, yet at the same time not wanting to be swamped with desperate calls.

mdforme:

As far as I know, these numbers are accurate:

Wyoming- 10
Idaho- 18
Alaska- 10
Montana- don't know, but maybe someone else does.

MT = 20.

I got an acceptance in a medium sized white envelop. Don't panic if you see one that isn't big and brown.

These numbers seem High from what I remember, I could be wrong though... It has happened once or twice.

Small white envelope:
I am #2 on the Wyoming class waitlist for WWAMI!

What does everyone think my chances are of getting a spot in a class of 10?
Is there anybody else here from the WWAMI states that has heard any news yet?

This is the first school I've heard back from, so I'm pretty stoked!😀

I don't believe there is a lot of movement for the WAMI states- most people accepted at UW attend.

I'm still waiting- another WAMI state. Keep your head up though- a lot can happen between now and Sep 20th. Good luck!🙂

For those of you applying to UW for the second time (like me), I just got done talking with a current med student who was on their adcom and she said those who are reapplicants actually get priority over first time applicants. So you actually get a bit of an edge over first timers, so keep your chins up! Early April is coming!

Wow, I don't mean to troll or anything, but I'm going be a freshman at UW next fall (I just got accepted, oh hell yah). Any tips, advice, or warnings to a guppy pre-med like me? 😀

Much appreciated guys. Go Huskies!! lol

congratulations melmc! that's a very promising start to the responses soon to come your way. i don't know how diff the other WWAMI state waitlists are, but they said that if you're ranked, you will most likely get in. so, in my mind you're in, baby, & you can enjoy the rest of the ride. 🙂

Hey guys!

I am thinking about writing an update letter to the UWSOM, but not much has changed in my life since my last update that I sent in the fall. The only notable thing is that I am taking a really awesome class on Health Law and Policy. Do you think I should write in or should I just let it go?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Laurie

When in doubt...WRITE ANOTHER ONE! I think what matters most is that you are expressing continued interest, not the fact that you may or may not have something new to tell them.

I'm writin' another one. This will be something like my 3rd LOI. I hope they get the idea. I'm actually thinking about writing a letter a week until I get rejected...oops I mean accepted.

I just thought I'd share an irrelevant nightmare with my fellow UW competitive listers. I dreamt that on April 1st (April Fools' Day) I got an acceptance from UW that turned out to be a joke. On April 2nd, I received a letter notifying me that I was placed on the dreaded "unranked waitlist/I love you Dr. Samson list" only to be rejected later on in August.

that's a highly organized dream. any chance you study in your sleep as well? hehe.

i can't count how many times i had random dreams/nightmares about UWSOM throughout all my stages of the application. most recent was about me totally spacing out and missing the first day of orientation. it was an offense punishable by dismissal and i had a scheduled meeting with dr. samson to discuss the issue. thankfully i woke up before the meeting. whew...

sweet dreams everyone. sleep tight and don't let the adcoms bite!

PS ixitixl, Hang in there!

Is the adcom for WA applicants meeting today? Anyone know?

I hope so. I dropped off yet another "I love you Dr. Samson/UWSOM" letter yesterday. Ugh. I hope all the effort pays off.

When do they send out the notifications??

Yes, there's an adcom meeting tonight 2/25 for WA residents. It's the first since my interview, so I'll be sitting on the edge of my seat for the next few days. I might even phone in tomorrow, depends on how scared of bad news I make myself. Since I live in Seattle, the mail should reach me rather quickly after they send it off, so the question is when will they send an actual letter? Guess I'll find out.

... but is for ALL WA residents, including those in the competitive pool? Or just for the most recent round of interviewees?

okay, answered my own question after stopping by the office today. They are reviewing recent interviewees tonight, and then after the last set of interviewees, around March 12th, they meet for about a week or so to determine the accept/ranked waitlist/unranked alternate/rejection.

Phased, I went to UW for undergrad, but I wouldn't really call myself a model premed since I didn't decide on med school until after I graduated. If you have questions about undergrad at the UW in general, I'm happy to help.

Well that's comforting. My interview was so-so. I could tell it wasn't stellar but it wasn't bad either. I'd love to hear what they said about me after I left because they were not transparent at all.

SMW- Just curious, when did you interview? There were several Alaskans when I interviewed (2/20), and curious if we might have met. I was the annoying one in the purple suit.

Haha I had a dream this last weekend that I was accepted to UW too! Then I woke up and was rather disappointed....

I was in the first group of Alaskans interviewed, in January. Good for you, wearing a purple suit! I stuck with black, but wore a red (gasp!) shell. Good luck to you and everyone else waiting. 🙂

I'm now an official member of the official U of Washington competitive list. I suppose that means my interview wasn't quite as bad as I thought. Hooray? Sigh, I'm very bad at waiting.

I believe that everyone is 10 except for Idaho and MT who have 20.

Wyoming decided their candidates on Thursday, Feb 19, 2004.

Alaska decided their candidates on Friday, Feb 20, 2004.

There were several interview cycles which started in January 2004 and some people were already accepted from the January interview group and notified before the meeting dates listed above. They said it was to keep the process rolling.

They also mentioned that all the letters need to be signed by the Dean before they are mailed out, so, it may be the week of February 22nd or first week of march (this week or next) that Wyoming and Alaska will receive their letters.

Washington is not decided until March sometime.

Good luck to everyone. 🙂

Since there seems to be alot of questions about the admissions timeline, I thought I'd bring up this past post. I originally submitted it on the 19th of feb.

Hi all, i'd just like to drop by and say good luck to all of you who are also on the competitive list. I consider my self to be fairly fortunate to be on the waiting list being that i only have an MCAT of 25.

I am 23 and don?t have a lot of experience out in real world, however, i travel like most of you and had some clinical experience. So I guess i am glad to know that the committee considers the background and personality of its applicants as well. My thoughts are that your goals as a doctor are also taking into consideration (working with underserved?)

You'll all make it in sooner or later, and if you don't get in this time; don't give up because you'll make it in next time. I am sure.

Cheers, Phez.

SMW,

You mentioned that you got your acceptance from UW in this post, but I thought I read that you were waitlisted last year but accepted to several other institutions. Did you decline their acceptance to reapply to UW? I'm sorry if you've already mentioned or addressed this earlier and I'm asking again. I was just curious, so, feel free to decline to answer. 🙂 Thanks in advance.
