I had to start this thread, every school has a thread going so might was well. Does anyone know when the white coat ceremony is?

Come on, we're the largest medical school in the country...incoming class size of 300 ....175 for the Chicago campus....I know you're out there, don't be shy!!!! 😉

For the chicago campus, I believe it's on Saturday August 16.

Orientation starts Aug. 12 and first day of classes is Aug. 18.

I'll be there too! I look forward to meeting everyone in August!

I'll see all of you there also! Where are you guys living?

yo its all about the dorms. anyone know when we get the room assigments?

I know I'll find out within a week whether I'll be in Chicago or Urbana, but does anybody know if I have a good shot of being in chicago if I got off the waitlist on May 27th and they received and processed my response envelope contents on June 9th.

Hope to see you guys in chicago.

hope you get chicago........ is anyone taking placement exams...i'm thinking of taking Neuro/Biochem. let's keep this thread alive........

hey guys, i was at a wedding tonight.....and I met a old friend of my mine (he's really young....like in his 20's).......he's going to be our neuroanatomy professor and for part of histology........he's awesome......its good news..........btw he's a genius......md/phd student. its good we'll have him........does anyone know when the white coat order link will be on?....peace

Congratulations for all of you going to UIC. If you guys want any advice from a recent grad feel free to PM. Maybe I'll see you guys around, I'll be starting my residency there, yeah I know I'm a lifer

Anxious MD, nice job setting up and keeping this thread going. i wish I had this when I was at UIC. I just graduated this past may. Anyways, I was curious who your MudPhud Friend is. I can think of a couple of people it may be, all great guys that love to teach. Send me a PM.

Hey guys the white coat order form is ready... I"m quite excited about it......how formal is it? Do they make you take the Hippo Oath or something like that or do you just go up on stage and someone puts a coat on you and hear a bunch of speeches? enjoying the summer........we should all try to get together in the summer maybe once or so......lets keep this thread alive.........

ps. going to the cubs sox series finale on Sunday.....go CUBBIES

what's the link to the white coat thing? i tried the one on that letter they sent out a few weeks ago but it still didnt work, but then again im a bit slow...

has anyone received the orientation packet in the mail? or their financial award letter?

I havn't received these either. They can't send out the official FA letter until the trustees set next year's tuition. I did get an estimate, though, back in May. They are meeting today to decide between a 5% and 8% increase, according to the Tribune. Not bad, considering last year's 10% increase!

Hey anxiousmed - is this young, smart genius, teacher guy cute? Or is that too much to ask for? he he!

Hi,
A lot of my friends who are entering for class of 2007 are also vying for the Chicago seats as couple of them were in Urbana -Rockford route and they were in GPPA ( Guaranteed Pre-Professional Admissions Inititative) program so well, they are having a hard time getting a Chicago seat as well. So, I think it will be hard to get a Chicago seat..but hey u never know, you may get the seat! Good Luck!

I'm surprised that GPPA students did not get the chicago seats since they are guaranteed admission barring any academic failures. Wow...this year is tough to get into the chicago campus. I just talked to the sec and she said that at least 60 students were petitioning. My employer sent an email to the dean of admissions and was told by him that he would try his best to get a site change. (Oh well, even if it doesn't work out...I will still be ecstatic about going to med school.)

Thanks for the info.

do you think the tuition will be more that 21K? I know its damn cheap, i'm not complaining don't worry!!!

well just keeping this thread alive............btw, i went to the infamous Windy City Ball game today ...Chicago White sox vs. THE CUBBIES..........CUBS WIN CUBS WIN.....great game.....we should all make a trip to wrigleyville before school starts......(except for you south siders that will be in the entering class ....j/k!!!) anyways......keep this going

i just got my housing contract for ssr...did anyone else? i'm wondering if we get grouped with med school students or is it random...oh yea, if any of you gets the orientation info/financial aid award letter in the email please post...

cmon, we're the largest medical school in the country (class size)......keep this thread alive peeps......

uic football rules!

oh wait, not sure if they have a football team...

No I don't think they do, but there basketball team isn't too bad.

Anyone going to UIC play poker? Gee i am gonna miss those occational games with my friends. Not gonna have too much money to continue that. 🙁 Oh, well, we can play for scrub sets.

See you all in the fall. Only a little more than a month left!!!!

hell yea we could play poker.......we could even make study trip to horseshoe casino which is exactly 25 minitues from campus.........i'm down...

The fireworks are already starting in Chicago!!!

Anyone get there financial stuff or orientation materials? Still waiting for mine.

I am getting exicited, just got a place to stay and counting the days before we start.

Everyone enjoy your fourth and be safe!!!!😀

that's awesome.....is it walking distance to school? no i haven't received any new orientation material or financial aid material.....can't wait either........i can't believe it all starts in a month!

heh heh,

I just finished my M1 at uic-com. You guys will have a great time at orientation!!

enjoy your time now... I am!!

pm me if you have any pressing concerns.

oh the white coat ceremony is a nice affair... you all file in take your seats, the dean reads something touching (blah blah blah), you go up one by one and receive your coat (shake hands here), you go back to your seat, more speech and then, not you, but someone next to you puts on your coat for you.... That was the nicest part - symbolising the idea that we are a community and no one person can take this journey alone!!!

We are read an oath attributed to maimonadies (sp) who actually did not write it but, ah well... One of the M4's (a previous philosophy PhD) did the research and discovered it was not his work after all.

It was enlightening to me and a good lesson that what we will be taught can not be taken at 100% certainty!

~the truth is out there~

shorrin, that's awesome...thanks for the inside view. i have quite a few buds that were m1s this past year....they told me that attendance was low to class but the exams weren't cake at all. so does it kick it in high gear right away in august?...the reason i was asking was a family member is getting married labor day weekend and i don't know if it'll be too much for me to leave town........thanks man
ps.....i hope we have a boat cruise like you do......was it fun?

anyone know what the deal is with:

1. tuition and financial aid? when do we find out?

2. schedule? when are the breaks, school end for summer, etc?

ive heard the admin is inefficient and slow, but c'mon! oh well, i think im just getting a bit too excited about school starting. but hey, at least we know when the first day is...

Man, the administration stories are true. I am trying to take the proficiency exams for a few courses since I took them at CMS during my AP year.....however I never got forms for them....they start this week I found out today so i'm try to make crazy contacts with profs to arrange it. Did you guys get any forms? I still haven't received nothing except site assignment, a 1 page letter saying we will get orientation materials soon and that's it.

****** WARNING******** It says we have to register prior to orientatin. DON"T FORGET........i'm having problems accessing student access system, have you guys registered?

Word! This is really ridiculous. All I've received was the site assignment letter, also. No registration material!

SAS, don't even have a student ID to access the page!

Good luck on your proficiency exams!🙂

well, i just received the orienation material today. I also registered for couses today, damn we have 20 hours of courses 1st semester. are you guys going to all the events......what about the whirlyball? yea i hope i can place out of a few courses.....i want to take physio again....but not biochem, neuro, genetics, neuroanatomy. how about financial aid, anyone?

the countdown begins 4 weeks to go.....anyone get Financial aid?

I just called the FAO and was told that my funding has already been budgeted. However, the breakdown was not finalized; subsidized vs. nonsubsidized. My award was $35,068. I will probably ask for an additional $8K (you can write them for additional funding but they won't look at it until october).

Good luck! (BTW, I STILL HAVEN'T RECEIVED REGISTRATION MATERIALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)🙄

anyone know if we can sneak in a few extra people (like 4 or 5) into the white coat ceremony, or is it in a pretty space-limited room?

dcpark.....i want to ask as well for extra $$$..just curious, what is the process and how are you going to convince you to give sooo much ...8k?

123456....i too want to bring 4 peeps, i'm bringing them.....jeez....2-3.....hell i'm from chicago.....my peeps want to represent

btw, i'm taking the proficiency exam in biochem this wed, i'm not going to study.....i don't care if i pass.....at least get an idea of how the exams are...wish me luck

First: Good luck on your proficiency exams!🙂

Second: I am asking for as much as I can...that is where the 8K value comes from. You send a letter with supporting documents that specifically state your unmet expenses to the FAO. They review them in October and decide if you qualify for more funding.

I'm SOL right now and am in desperate financial need as a result of outstanding debt with the impossibility of finding a cosigner.

Late

Good luck tomorrow on your exam!! Some interesting info...I spoke to the FAO office today and was told not to expect the final award notification until late July or sometime into August. The delay is due to their computer system being upgraded this summer. Arggh! I also found out that our class is over-booked (not good news to anyone on the waitlist).

well.....im' debating if i should take it....not prepared at all....don't want to look like a dumb a**, oh well.......our class is overbooked? no way, uic got into troulbe 2 years ago caz they had 12 more peeps starting than the alotted 300. not good...is the chicago campus overbooked or just in general.........oh yea about the F/A thing.....what are examples you can show.....i need the money as well....any tips would be good.....i was reading on their website about car insurance, etc...they give more money....but it seems like a tedious procedure

hey everyone.......i don't mean to be an intruder into your thread, but.........

i'll be starting at Chicago Osteopathic this fall and i'm on the committee for AMSA's, ( American Medical Student Association ), regional conference this coming year. The conference will be held in November at Rush and I just wanted to let everyone know about it. If anyone would like more info, feel free to PM me. I will have much more information in September, and I know that we are trying to get a representative from each medical school in Chicago to speak that the conference.

Thanks!!!

Good Luck and Congrats to all of you.

i took the test.....wasn't as bad as i thought it would be......just alot of clinical correlations.....very different test than CMS ....i don't think i passed...just have a good grasp of what it'll be like.....anyways, stopped by FA, they made up another excuse......since the tuition went up 5%, they had to do everyone's all over so we wont get it till 1st week of Agust. oh well

as for the FA, that sucks. does anyone know how the billing works for tuition? hopefully the FAO and the billing dept communicate so they dont bill us for fall tuition before the FA checks roll in (wouldnt suprise me).

sorry, but nothing to do with computer upgrades! they overestimated tuition by 3%. originally thought 2003 increase was 8%, but have adjusted it to 5%. They have to recalculate expenses and award accordingly.

so is it 5% increase from the 21K from lsat year?
