Hey Guys quick question...

is there a difference between alternate list and waitlist? I got an email saying I was on the alternate list, while on my portal it says wait listed. Does anyone know if they are the same?

Waitlist is before Alternate List. AADSAS probably only has a waitlist option for the schools to enter.

I received the alternate email last night.
I was accepted to UofL but I really want to hold out for UK. Any advice?

The UK email said there won’t be any movement until the first of the year. I was on the alternate list last year and I didn’t find out I wasn’t getting a spot until sometime around March or April and I contacted them frequently.

So basically I should take my offer and run with it lol. Once I pay the fee at UofL is it concrete or could I change my mind if something happened and a spot opened at UK? Also, if you don’t mind me asking what did you end up doing?

Well last year UK was the only school I interviewed at so I wrote a letter of intent and had a couple of dentists write additional letters of rec for me and checked in periodically but they eventually told me they filled their class in March/April

Your deposit is to hold your seat for the program. I'm sure you can change your mind but you would lose your deposit.

Did you send update letters or emails? What did you include in your correspondence? I was waitlisted last year (IS applicant) and this year and I'm wondering what else I can do to make it off the waitlist this time.

You can accept Louisville and hold out for UK until March/April when AADSAS notifies schools where you have accepted a seat, and after that students can no longer hold more than one seat, only downside is you'll lose your deposit. But at least it will give you some time

what are your stats?

what are your stats?

Residency: KY (Jefferson Co. resident- I know at Louisville there are different waitlist for different counties, but I don't know if that's the same at UK)
Interview: 8/31
GPA (science, overall): 3.5, 3.81
DAT (AA/TS/PAT/Reading/any section below a 17): 19/19/16/23/none
Shadowing: 104 hours
Volunteering: 300+ hours
Research: 800+ hours (2 summer NIH fellowships not for credit)

I know my DAT scores are less than desirable but I was told last cycle by UK, UL, and IU that taking it again would have been a waste of time and money, kind of kicking myself for not re-taking.

That's really strange of them to tell you not to take DAT again.

You think? All schools offered appointments to discuss why I was waitlisted and all three said it was my shadowing and volunteer hours that I should improve and not to worry about the DAT.

I sent a letter of intent, checked in every 2 weeks, I had 2 dentists send an additional letter of recommendation each. I finally found out by March that their class had been filled.

Thanks! What do you mean by checked in? Like a "hey what's my waitlist status?" kind of thing? I'm really trying to show I want this without annoying the adcoms

Also! Congrats! I know that acceptance email must have been pretty sweet!

If that were the case, it would have been. I’m on the alternate list again. I just emailed missy every 2-3 weeks to see if there was any movement and to reiterate how interested I was. I’m also waitlisted at 2 other schools this year. It should be a great extra month or more of waiting some more. Hopefully not a repeat of last year but we shall see

Ah, sorry I misread that! Best of luck to you!

Does anyone know how many people generally get accepted in January?

To anyone that has been waitlisted- are you writing letters to your interviewers or are you just going to correspond with the adcoms?

Last year I sent letters to my interviewers, wrote a letter of intent to the adcom, and emailed missy frequently. I don’t know if it did any good whatsoever so I’m not sure what I’m going to do this year.

Did you ever find out why you were waitlisted last year?

I do not. I think there are two waitlist though. One for In State and one for Out of State applicants.

Just got an email from Missy. She said that there is no waitlist for instate but there is one for out of state.

Many of the other dental schools have Facebook Class of 2022 groups.
Is there a Facebook page for UK Dental Class of 2022?

Anyone generally know what a “hold for comparison” at Kentucky means for my fate based on past classes?
I got one too, I literally think I.T means they are holding you for comparison, not everyone gets one though so it’s better than rejection for sure

jut got the email. waitlisted

OOS applicant
Were you placed on the waitlist or alternate list? I always thought they were the same but I was just re-reading my alternate email and it says "we also have a Waitlist of candidates that will likely be offered first." I was placed on the alternate list so I'm just wondering if you've heard anything else/what the difference between the two is?

Alternate IS

I given up my waitlist.

Can anyone tell me more about their interview? Format, etc. thanks!

My interview day began at 11. You check in at the student affairs office to take a picture and receive your folder. Your folder tells you who you will interview with and what time. Our interview group met up with the 8 am group for lunch. Then we did a tour of the school for about 45 mins - 1hr. We broke up into smaller groups. One group began interviewing, while the other group met with financial aid and learned more about living in Lexington. The groups switched and then we were dismissed around 4 pm.
