did anyone in here get accepted to a dental school without having any knowledge about dentistry before they applied??? [ like no knowledge at all ].. like malcolm vs. composite etc. hehe

to be a dental assistant you need to have a license, right?? :laugh: dunno.. i'm still a noobie about this dentistry thing ahhhhhh
 
you have to shadow....just call any dentist and ask if you can
 
not even perfect dat ad 4.0 gpa can get you in dental school without shadowing or dental experience
 
ok if your scared and dont know what to say and where to start....heres how you would go about with an advice from TheBestDoctor
1) Use google and search for a clinic around your area or any place that you want to go to. just type in 'dental clinic in hollywood california" or whatever. Make sure its a general practice and not some hospital because dental school requires you to go through that
2) Dress nice but not TOO formal and walk in to the clinic and ask when is the best time to talk to the dentist because you have some questions on the dental field.
3) When the doctor first meet you, smile....shake his hand....and introduce yourself.
4) Explain situation and why your hear ....for an example
" Hi my name is ______ and I am a student at __________ University. I am going in to dentistry and will be applying to dental school soon. One of the requirements that is required before entering dental school is general practice shadowing (which he probably already knows). I am looking for approximately ______hours. And i was wondering if you could help me finish up these hours?
5) Let him say whatever he wants from here and if he says yes.....then your good to go
6) If he says NO.....then ask...if he knows where you can go anywhere else to finsh up your hours...like introduce you to another dentist.
7) If No again....say thank you and start all over again with your search
8) Remember! dont be shy about this find the right way on searching for a dentist to shadow because when you become one.....your going to have to go around and introduce yourself to find a job.

No, you don't need a license to be a dental assistant but most places won't hire you anyways if you don't have experience. I live in Houston and I volunteer for Health Care for the Homeless Dental Clinic. This is a really good place to learn because it's very hands-on and the dentist sometimes explain things to you while she's working. They let me assist on the first day I was there.
So, while shadowing some random doctor is acceptable, I reccomend that you find a charity clinic. I think you would find it more rewarding to volunteer where your help is needed and getting the experience you needed instead of just getting XX numbers of hours down for observing.

But the question is do you, or Viet guys in general, have the skills to bag a Hispanic girl? 🙂 Reason being is I have yet to see a full-blooded Viet hook up with a hot white or Hispanic girl.
 
The reason for that is most Viet guys are vertically challenged.😛 Most hot girls are tall.

hi, i have a question hoping that some of you can give me some ideas because i am graduating in the spring with a Biochem degree and i think i will not be accepted this year, will have to wait again next year. I have been doing some research to look for grad schools, but i have a hard time deciding what i should study so it will be beneficial for my dental career later on?
Or should i just go to work? and apply again next year?
Next year will be my last year applying if i do not get in, but i am comtemplating if i should go to work or go to grad school, and there are so many programs

Are you sure you want to go to dental school? If this is what you want, volunteer/shadow in a dental clinic to get experience, get a good score on the DAT, and work/take 1st year dental classes (physiology, anatomy, etc). If you don't need the money, just stay in school and take fun classes!
If you're preparing for it now I'm sure you'll get in next year. I just don't think you're sure of what you wanted. Dentistry can be a real pain if you're not into it.

Not true...most of my viet friends' girlfriends here are gorgeous white women. I've also dated a couple. Don't be fooled by the media, we have all the skills necessary to send many different women to a high climatic point. 👍

thats because i mostly see and hang out people that are open to other races and dont stick together in packs.

most the vertically challenged ones are the ones that just came over from Vietnam. They grew up in a very poor less developed country and so they dont have the right food and nutrients to be big as americans. For the vietnamese american that were born here....their probably as big and tall as an average caucasian american. Most of my american borned cousins are atleast 5'9 and some of them are big as college football players. your from texas and you should know that since some of the american born viets there are professional athletes

i tihnk it depends on you to know what to improve on. When u get your rejection letter....ask the advisor and see what you can do to improve it and really get in next year. Just dont waste time and money but doing this and that when it doesnt help.

Of course dentistry is my dream and what i want to be, but some people cannot always stay in school and continue on applying like myself. I have to support myself on my own therefore it does not leave me a lot of options but to have a backup plan although i would apply again next year because it's something i've always wanted to do. Some people just do not have it so easy and applying to dental schools is so expensive every year. Thanks for the advice, i'll certainly try to be prepare next year.

So now we know the source of this so call 'civil' war interpretation. There is no need to insult each other and if you do not care for my comments, don't reply and ignore them. I apologize they have irked you so much but my comments have been civil and never have they directly insulted you. You're misintrepreting a lot of things I have been saying and blowing this out of proportion. Take care my man.

Well...you guys must have the tall gene. I grew up with a lot of Vietnamese and MOST Viet guys are shorter than Caucasians (even the well fed ones). Maybe it will take a few more generations for nurture to fully take affect.
I was really just joking about the other stuff, didn't mean to offend anyone.

lol...somebody is taking my food!
I'm first generation....5'8" but with a more well-built body than most dudes from other race. For those first 11 yrs in Vietnam, I ate mainly rice with fishsauce and sometimes with a small dead fish on the side. I can only imagine what our third-and-later generation is going to be...all Yao Mings with a touch of Arnold Schwarzenegger😀. Well, at least I hope they will be.

Sorry, I forgot how expensive it was to apply elsewhere. It cost me only $75 to apply to all 3 schools in TX. But some of the people I volunteer with got a full time job as research assistants and continue to apply the following year.
 
you know whats weird?? my great great grandparents and their relatives were 6''5 average. i know this is true because i meet my great grandpa and he was talll...my generation.....the average for the guys is like only 5'7 - 5'8

I heard my dad said the same thing. It's probably after the War when the Commies took over and they messed up everything....people are left without foods and the stress...etc. If you look at countries where wars are going on constantly...the people there are not very healthy. Viet people got it worst, we struggled one war after another. First it was the Chinese, then the ******ed French, then after that it was the commies.

We try to wrestle with this question in anthropology all the time. If you look at the bone records of the earlier immigrants (Italian, Chinese, Irish), you will see that the ones that came to the United States had bigger bone structures than the ones at home because the ones in the United States received better nutitional values. However, you cannot deny that genetics is a factor in how tall or big you can get. Genetics play a role in terms of growth, but how much? There are more and more research papers indicating that with good nutritions a human can growth to full potential like any other human, which minimizes the importance of genetics. So...this is why I think the future generations of Viets will be much bigger and taller. However, I'm not sure they will be as smart as we are because they'll be more Americanized...meaning they're going to slack off like the americans.

Where is the clinic locate at ? I may come by and voluteer in the summer. Have you got any acceptance ?

Find a part time job and retake any class with low grade and apply as many schools as possible. What is your stats anyway ?

Talk to either Heather Cunningham or Adrianna Johnson.
They require that you volunteer 8 hours a week, either the whole day or in 4hr block so you can properly assist. If you volunteer 100 hrs. they will write you a reccommendation letter.
I got accepted to LSU. I'm still waiting on the TX schools because I didn't make firt cut. I heard 2nd round of admission is sometimes in February.
