***Official Wayne State Application Thread***

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I hate to back up the previous poster, but I did learn today from the admissions office that they have overfilled their class (and that they don't have many "multiples" this year...what does that mean?) and do not anticipate much movement this year, if any. They also noted any movement would occur in June at the earliest. They said specifically that things aren't shaking out like the usually do, but still said "who knows what might happen".

Hopefully I'm wrong, but it's straight from the horse's mouth...

For ****'s sake...why is it that every waitlist I get on seems to suck ass.

Consensus has it that only 17 were taken from the waitlist last year. (I'm assuming that 17 after May 15, and not 17 overall, including on subsequent call-in dates.) That's not a very good number, though I heard that was an anomaly. If this year is worse than that, I think we're doomed. However, I'm not willing to look at it that way, just yet.
Some chance is better than none, I guess.

Oh yeah - as much as I want to go to Wayne, another D.O. opportunity was made for me today. So I have two to choose from if I never get that call from Wayne! See sig!

So are we to assmue that waiting for that phone-call/email/mail of being accepted from Wayne is basically hopeless?

I know....its ridiculous, when i got waitlisted, people (med students and residents) were telling me that Wayne state has a lot of movemnet, you have a good shot of getting in...and now I am hearing the other side of the story. All i had was hope but now I don't know...

a few months ago, i emailed one of the medstudents (i think 2nd year at the time) and he said that waitlisted students get accepted from the end of may to one week prior to orientation, with most people in between.

edit: and that's based on what he knows about his classmates (aka anecdotal evidence, the best kind)

hey inside_edition.
Very nicely done. 😉

That's a great point...hopefully it shakes out that way. I guess a bunch of us will know how things are looking later this week, as they were processing a bunch of letters yesterday to inform those of us that are getting knocked off the alternate list.

Wait, what?
I was under the impression that Wayne doesn't "knock people off" the waiting list, once they're on it.
And they just keep them indfinitely (or at least until the school year starts.)

I've heard that Wayne creates a "final" waitlist after May 15, so they probably knock off people who don't really stand much of a chance. Lol, tho who knows if any of us stand much of a chance- it's looking kind of bleak based on what people have posted...

lets hope that they meet soon and that they let us know exactly where we stand...

I called the admissions office today and the lady there told me that they do in fact remove people from the alternate list and had already done so; they sent out those letters today (i.e. rejection).
She said that I believe last year, or 'typically'... can't remember the exact words she had used, they accepted over 400 people for a final class of 290, so there is still hope for us yet. However, as of now the class is full.

Keeping fingers crossed!!!!!!!!!!!!

who do i email/call if i am leaving the country for a few weeks and want to change my contact info? wouldn't want to miss that phone call i am expecting soon  .

Wow...suddenly, I don't want mail to come.

I guess I don't want the mailman to come now....but, one of my other school sent out letters for updating everyone on monday (that's what the plan was)...so like everything else in my life right now, whio knows if i want the mailman to come or not.

Oh boy. Doesn't sound too good when the class is full even after the May 15 withdrawl date. So I guess we can't expect too much of a movement as people will only be withdrawing if they get off other waitlists. Well, good luck to everyone.

It sounds like they mean that not many of the accepted students have had multiple acceptances.

ditto. letter.

those who got the letter when was it postmarked and where do you live?

If you didn't get a letter, you could always call and find out if your status has changed. I live in suburban Detroit and didn't get a letter...called and said I was still sitting on that most frustrating list

just got my rejection letter!🙁 🙁 🙁

most likely won't be viewing this thread any more...good luck to everyone.

I am really sorry guys that you got those letters, I was really looking forward to the improbable happening and us all standing around the bar buying each other drinks. 🙁

I am currently in Ohio (since I am attending grad school at University of Cincinnati) so I am in fear of my mail today, or tomorrow. Or maybe even Tuesday, given Monday is a holiday. :scared:

just got my rejection letter!🙁 🙁 🙁

So sorry, Guju, and to everyone else.
I hope Rosalind Franklin or DMU pull through for you. There's still hope!
As for me, I'm on the West Coast, and I'm getting the feeling that my letter is in transit. Good luck to everyone, either with Wayne or elsewhere!

good luck to everyone in the future. if we all don't get it i look forward to discussing/complaining about the med school process all over again on SDN in about 4 months

So, my rejection letter has made its way to the West Coast.
My poorly worded rejection letter, complete with typos.

I know they tell you not to burn bridges, but I officially am done with this school, residencies be damned. I'm no longer going to lose sleep once a month freaking out about the call-in. The "Welcome to Wayne" guide to Detroit is going to find its way into my recycling bin. I'm going to proudly wear my Air Jordan gear this fall, without fear of getting jacked in The D. I'm going to go ahead and register StringerBellDO.com (except I'll use my real name, of course.) I didn't want to buy snow tires, anyway. The West Coast is the Best Coast, represent. Eminem sucks. My only regret is never getting to meet thes_hunter, cutie-pie. I'm going to go roll large in Vegas...see ya.

Stringer Bell, D.O.

OMG!!!!!!!! StingerBell NOT YOU!!! 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱
Crap, I was really hoping you got off the waitlist. 🙁😡

For ****'s sake...why is it that every waitlist I get on seems to suck ass.

Hey! I looked at your webMD profile, and I see you are at the Georgetown SMP.

I am at that new University of Cinci SMP, so I am wondering how you like the Georgetown one, since it supposively supposed to be the best?
Also what sort of SMP GPA are they looking for.... because I know mine is not going to be a 4.0. and if I don't study for my exams on Thursday and Friday, it might not even be a 3.5 and I was thinking about possibly applying to Georgetown in the next cycle. SOooooo.... yeah, it would be good to know.

Woah... they really thinned out the herd, is anyone still left on this thread?

StringerBell - sorry to hear that news... good luck in the desert next year 😉

I'm still here...still waiting on Vandy and Wayne

Haven't received anything in the mail yet. However, it is not looking too good right now with almost no waitlist movement. Good luck to everyone in the future.

I'll be honest about not being madly in love with G-Town. It's a trial by fire sort of program, you get to really experience the rigors of med school but even before the first month at G-Town, I knew this is not the school for me. They generally look for people with 3.3 GPA or something along that line. But SMPers who actually get into G-Town has very high SMP GPA along the lines of 3.7+.

Thanks for the depressing thought. 😉

For more depressing thoughts...

No apparent movement yet. 🙁

Does any one know how many people are still on the waitlist? Or how many people typically get in during the summer from the waitlist?

I had e-mailed the admissions office couple of days ago. They replied by stating that the class is currently filled right now and that additional offers will only be made if people withdraw.

Withdraw people!!! Withdraw!!!
So us faithful on this thread can (hopefully) take your spot!

Just called admissions:

"based on previous years we are not expecting to offer any more acceptances this year"

see you all back on this thread in a few months, gl

I think they got tired of us calling. They sent a similar e-mail about not accepting anymore people last year but then accepted at least 3 people on SDN two days immediately after.

I find it hard to fathom that Wayne will take NO ONE off the WL.

Hopefully they will but judging by last year's stats, it just won't be a hell of a lot. They overaccepted last year as well.

there's a lot of us who would love to withdraw from wayne. there's too many da** schools who are refusing to do anything wtih their WL until late June. So hang in there guys!! movement will happen (sometime)!

I just received an e-mail from Wayne's Dean of Admissions (presumably all accepted applicants did) offering the opportunity to defer until next year.

hm, didn't get one. maybe it's a way to get some people to drop out? is the class overfilled?

Does that e-mail mean good news or bad news for us waitlisters?

I am guessing that it is bad news especially if they are using this as an option to reduce their current class size as one of the poster is suggesting. Man, they must have overaccepted by a lot.🙁
