Please post here with your date of AACOMAS verification and how long you've been waiting since WVSOM emailed you initially... (it can be approximate if you're lazy)

This is for all of us who eagerly await our review 😉

AACOMAS verified 8/24 and mailed 8/28...

I've been waiting since September 1.

AACOMAS verified 08/02 mailed 08/20 (added WVSOM after first mailing)

Decision pending since 9/01

Also decision pending since Sept 1st

Man you have got to relax. Your getting so nuts on here that it's even making me nervous. Your time will come with WVCOM and it's out of your hands as to when that time is...

Holy Cow! I just realized the tuition for out of state is 75k for WVSOM! Isn't that nuts? Do many out-of-staters actually go there?

dont forget about the $3000 non-refundable deposit for OOS peeps

I was told by Angela that it was 60% out of state and 40% in state (admissions for c/o 2010)

Oh snaps, it almost discourages me from interviewing there. However, I have read many really good posts about WVSOM, so I guess I shouldn't factor it out completely. That is just crazy. They must have stethoscopes made of gold or something...

It has nothing to do with any of that. I just realize that it's out of my hands and that if a school wants to interview me then they will invite me. Everything else is irrelevent. We all are very unique applicants and they choose to/or not to interview us for whatever reason.

It's not like they say ok. everyone with X and Y get an interview and we do it in the order of complete applications.

Come on man.. There's 4 other threads like this

Good luck though

Scott

PS. When I interviewed there one of the admissions people admitted to reading this site.

interviewed early september or something like that and accepted soon after. debating b/c of outofstate tuition and location.

West Virginia is a small state of only about 1 million people total. We have 2 MD schools and WVSOM. I honestly think that it's only 40% in-state acceptance because of the lack of WV applicants! Since it's a state-funded school they have to give priority *at least report that they do 😛 * to state residents. That makes me very happy I've lived in WV all my life -- I think if you're even somewhat within their competitive stats and a resident you have a very good chance of acceptance. However, maybe thats me and my delusional grasp for hope, but it sounds good 😎

DO doc you are incorrect.

The 75k you speak of includes money to live (etc etc etc)

The actual tuition is just under 50k

Don't take my word for it, call the admissions office.😉

that's the in-state tuition. out of state was $75,000 some odd dollars.

From the link I provided:

"In-State Tuition: $18886
Out-of-State Tuition: $46736"

hm this seems more correct. I think they said out-of-state tuition was just about $50,000 this year and usually students take out somewhere between $10,000-20,000/year for living expenses.

and I interviewed there early september, and accepted. Still debating whether I want to go there or not.

More like 72k for living expenses and tuition together. They just raised it on us between 2nd and 3rd year. Good luck you guys, I hope you all get in. 👍

Yes, everyone reads SDN so watch out if you are trying to be anon!

Why should I care if everyone reads SDN? I really don't care if adcomms see what I write on here; I have nothing to be ashamed of (other than, of course my GPA, but they'll already see that haha).

At any rate, I appreciate the well-wishes and goodwill. This process is kind of nerve-racking. Sorry about the tuition hike -- WVSOM is a very nice school from what I've heard and read. I hope they offer me an interview.

I finally have a change to my status at WVSOM, but it is to "Decision Deferred." 🙁 I find that a little confusing in light of my stats, but oh well.

after how long have u heard? Maybe ill be next.

I was "Decision Pending" starting on 9/1, and then I became "Decision Deferred" today.

Sorry to hear, I too have been decision pending since the 1st. How were ur stats if u dont mind me asking, I thought they said that they interviewed a majority fo those with 3.5 and 24-27?

3.75 overall
3.62 BCP

31R MCAT (11 VR, 09 PS, 11 BS, and R WS)

Thats quite odd, u can try asking them I guess.

That sucks. But at least it's not a rejection. I'm still decision pending since 9/1, so I guess they haven't gotten to my app yet. Maybe they go alphabetically? My last name is all the way at the end of the alphabet.

well mines in the middle, so unless they are way in the beginning that theory doesnt make sense

that's kind of surprising that you didn't get accepted. how'd your interview go?

I don't think he had an interview. Kinda shocking since his stats are high.. maybe you are over qualified? lol.. that wouldn't be good.

Just a theory...but do you think the adcom thinks that since your stats are SO good, that you will decide to go MD and thus they don't want to waste your time or theirs? I know that sounds crazy, but just a possiblity. It is very surprising you didn't get an interview, especially since your stats qualify you for early acceptance 😕

well....its not that he "hasnt gotten an interview" .... they havent rejected him yet.

they are going to stick him in a pile of other applicants (me included) and review them in the coming months for a possible future interview invite. (or so I was told by the admissions secretary)

Yeah I'd honestly call and ask why you didn't get an auto-invite. That hardly seems fair. other people with 28 MCATs and 3.5 have gotten auto-acceptance.

Something's ****ed up and I don't like it.

Maybe they didn't like the personal statement. Or, maybe that auto invite is only good till a certian point in time (ie early applicants).

Good luck!

Well, I thought my personal statement was pretty strong for the most part, and I have received three interviews so far, two of them being fast track ones prior to having to fill out the secondary.

I have no idea what the deal is then. I was under the impression that a 3.5 and a good MCAT ment a auto-interview. Maybe the pool of applicants is very competitive this year and/or they are just slow at getting around to people.

In the past, I know some schools view your folder in the order that it is recieved. So, maybe they do that once a month or something? Good luck with it if this is where you want to go. It's expensive for OOS'ers but, it is a nice campus and everyone seems to be very happy with the school.

WVSOM acceptance 10/3

Still Decision Pending for me...

I can't believe they deferred your decision. Medmom had like a 22 MCAT and 3.1 GPA... and she got interviewed and accepted... I know she's non-trad but c'mon this just doesn't seem fair.

And if you haven't noticed, I'm a little worried because I could be in the same boat.

hey, i just wanted to say that I have been decision pending since september first but got a call today for an interview..although i guess someone cancelled theirs because mine is next week! i just wanted to let everyone know that they said that if i didn't go on monday i would be put into the pool for december..so maybe that is what you, who are still waiting, are in? i dont know..just thought i would tell you the little info i know.

I've been waiting since 9-25 and I hope I hear from them, but the out of state tuition is outrageous

I'm still decision pending since Sept. 1. I really have no clue what's going on there.

Make a call. They deliberated on me but forgot to update their website. So, I had to wait an extra week.

i'd make a call. it couldn't hurt you and atleast then you'd have some idea of where you stand. I interviewed there early and they gave me their decision through their website quickly. I guess i beat the rush.

I was decision pending since Sept 1 until this past Friday 10/13. Now I am decision deferred, whatever that means...

It means they could not render a decision on your application at this point. Your application will be subject to periodic review throughout this process and you will be updated of any changes (acceptance or rejection) via the website. "waitlist"

I guess that is better than being rejected...Thanks!

It is much better than a rejection. If you have something to update them about or have more recent transcripts, it's adivisible that you send them in. It can only help make you more attractive. If anything, it will give adcoms a reason to go into your file again. Best of luck!

I applied to WVSOM as well!

Out of curiosity, Why do you guys want to go there? What are the pro's and cons?

Make a call. They deliberated on me but forgot to update their website. So, I had to wait an extra week.

I called them and asked if there might be anything holding up my application. The lady I spoke with says they're really behind on applications, and they're going through teh pile of applications that were recieved at the same time as me. So she said very soon I should be hearing from them. Then she said she appreciated that I called in to check on it. So maybe I'll hear something from them soon.

I think I misunderstood. I thought you had interviewed already and still had the "pending decision" status on the website. If you interviewed early September, they should have gave you some type of answer by now. If you haven't interviewed yet, best of luck!

Nope, haven't interviewed yet. My decision pending is still just for an interview, rejection, or defer. But it's already middle of October and I've been pending for something since Sept. 1! It's been a long time already.
