Official: Yale Med Countdown!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well, no e-mail here. I guess that means I've been rejected... 🙁

Congrads to everyone who's been accepted or will be when the waitlist starts moving. 🙂

Another waitlist with no mention of high (letter and e-mail). I am 3 for 3 with waitlists. Although I am upset, I do still have hope. I sent a letter to UPenn and still have a chance with Hopkins. I just wish I had an acceptance so waitlists would not feel so bad. Good luck everyone on the waitlist! I hope you all get off and get accepted soon! A big congrats to those who were accepted!

Sorry to hear that loomis and elizabeth.

Hey guys,

I was waitlisted last year and extremely bummed when I received the email since it had been my first choice all year. But, just as a word of encouragement, I kept calling Mr. Silverman and professed my (very heartfelt) love for Yale through the middle of summer, and since I am sitting in New Haven, something must have gone right. And, on top of that, I know a lot of my classmates who got in off the waitlist, too.

I was in the top half of the second tier according to Mr. Silverman, so just hang in there if you all really want to go to Yale. The other piece of advice would be to contact your interviewers (only if you had a positive interview experience) because combined with the information from Mr. Silverman, you can get a fairly realistic assessment of what to expect from the waitlist process.

Best of luck, and congratulations to everyone who was accepted (I'll see you next year!)

Hey Guys

for all those waitlisted - I'm pretty sure I won't stay on the waitlist and I already know a few peeps who are giving up their acceptances for other schools, so hang tight.

Got an email from Yale regarding this year's waitlist:

To: Waiting List Applicants

I am writing to applicants on the waiting list to add a few words of
clarification to yesterday's e-mail. Several applicants have asked
whether we rank the waiting list and, if so, whether we tell applicants
where they stand as the process moves along.

The answer to the first question is "yes, but not exactly." We don't
rank the waiting list in rigid numerical order, but we do divide it into
three ranked tiers, which we call simply Group 1, Group 2, and Group 3.
As for telling applicants where they stand in this scheme, this is what
we are going to do: Beginning on Monday, April 5, we will be taking
telephone calls from applicants on the waiting list to answer questions
about their relative position and probability of being accepted.
Designated calling times are Mondays from 2:00 to 3:00 and Fridays from
2:00 to 3:00 from April 5 until the incoming class is set. If you wish
to discuss your position on the waiting list during these hours, please
call (203) 785-2696.

Yeah, me too. Again, big props to everyone who got in or is advancing in this whole process still. I wish you all the best.

me three... no love from yale. not surprising either, since i've never set foot in a lab i didn't have to be in.

*sigh* Me four... congrads to the rest of you. 🙂

I was wondering if anyone on the high waitlist has called the office to find out how likely they will accept people from the waitlist. I didn't get the email that said we should call if we have any questions, and I am not sure how to phrase my question to Yale. So I am asking you guys on SDN.

I know that people posted that almost all students are taken off the high waitlist, but has there been any year where they have not taken everybody off. I am just really paranoid and a little stressed about not knowing where I will be going to move for next year. I also don't want to get my hopes up and then have them smashed. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

According to Mr. Silverman, as most of you know, there are 3 waitlists. The first tier people have all been accepted in the previous years ("in the history of time" were his exact words). About 60% of the time, they also accept everyone from the second tier waitlist. Both of these are very small, although he wouldn't give me any numbers. The third tier is much larger and highly variable.
The only way to find out where you stand is to call him during the times he gave you in that email.

Yale always under-accepts because there is variability in responses, and they are very set on having a class of exactly a 100 people.

Good luck to everyone, I hope to see you here next year.

I just got into Yale's MSTP program off the waitlist, and I know of another person who got into MD off the waitlist 2 weeks ago, so there is movement! Hope to see you in New Haven this fall
