Hey everyone! I am new and just discovered SDN; I wish I would have known about it sooner, this could have been very nice for the whole application process! Congrats to all those who have gotten in so far! Fingers crossed for those still waiting! 🙂

My portal changed on Monday from that nebulous "In Review" to "Decision" and "congrats you are admitted"! But I never got a phone call or an email or anything.....did this happen to anyone else? I just hope they didn't make a mistake or something! I hope I am really in! I want to be excited, but it seems like everyone else was notified with an email or a phone call........

Hey everyone, I was accepted via e-mail today too! I had to read it about 3 times to make sure it was for real because I couldn't believe it at first! Congrats to everyone else who heard good news from Ohio State!

Congrats to everyone!!!! I hope you all chose OSU because, in my totally unbiased opinion, it's like the best school EVER. Totally unbiased, just pure accuracy.

Yeah, I just realized it isn't obvious what happened with my email this morning so I will elaborate on my frantically typed "my email didn't go through."

When seeing everyone else got acceptances this morning I figured I was sunk. I called the admissions office and told them I was basically looking to be put out of my misery, and wanted to know what the process was looking like from here on out; were there anymore acceptances being sent out, etc. She started saying something about their rolling admissions process, (which I can't remember now). Then she asked me my name, looked me up, and then told me I got in, and could tell that my email hadn't made it to me. She then resent it. I'm pretty sure I told her "OMG I love you"...oops.

What is it with emails and me and this school? I almost got denied early on because a transcript was late, and the email they sent me to tell me they needed my transcript got stuck in spam, and by the time I found it the deadline to get it to them had already passed. Come to find out the transcript made it there on its own two days before the deadline, and I was saved. This could have been avoided if my email with my portal login info hadn't also vanished and I hadn't been told "don't worry about it" when I called to have them resend my login info. Good god, something or someone really wanted it to work out for me this year!

I guess they didn't mind that my fly was down for my interview either.

Yeah.... OSU's e-mail server.... well.... every other e-mail server recognizes it as spam. Didn't used to be like this before they tried to implement the whole buckeyemail email addresses (huge beef with OSU about that.... IMHO- @osu.edu is so much easier than @buckeyemail.osu.edu.... something works well- why change it???)

At least you got word and all is supposedly well 🙂

Can I just say I love the little coffee shop I go to. The barista congratulated me quite loudly about vet school (and yes, there was an actual high-five involved).... after about a half hour of me sitting writing my paper, this little old lady came up to me and asked me what that was all about.... the conversation ended with "Veterinarians.... those are some of the best people I know. Best of luck!"

Wow that is so exciting to see all the acceptances! I particularly enjoyed reading the acceptances for people on their 2nd or 3rd application cycle--no one deserves it more!

As someone who interviewed at Ohio but hasn't received an email--this rolling admissions of which Squibby speaks is giving me hope--maybe false hope 😛

If you guys don't mind me asking, is the number you called just the one listed on the website under student affairs?

I remembered what she said. Typical rolling admissions stuff, but if the current batch of acceptances doesn't fill the class, they will send out more.

Here's to people getting into other schools, Goatherd :xf:!

Yup, the 8831 number.

That whole issue with their email server is scary! I had them added to my contacts and everything, so now I will stress I will miss some other important email in the future.

I have a question regarding the portal. I checked the portal today and my status has finally changed to "decision" today and it says I have until 1/1/2011 to pay my acceptance fee. Does anyone know how we pay that? Is that information sent with the official acceptance letter? Those of you who got your acceptance by email, does it say anything in the email about that?

That sounds like a mistake to me. Why would they want your acceptance fee so soon when the agreed upon date is April 15th to secure your seat?

And no, the email says that we'll get an official acceptance via snail mail with a form to fill out to secure our spot.

Yeah, I know, I have it too...it just doesn't seem to make sense :-/ Maybe someone could email or call? If I get a chance tomorrow maybe I will.
 
Hey guys! The professional career acceptance fee is just like $25, it's different from the $300 deposit for out of staters. The professional admissions office told me that the info for paying it is in the snail mail letter; there's a little paper or something in with your letter, and you send that paper back with your fee, snail mail style. Hope that helps!

The problem with that is, if it really IS due on the first of January, I won't have my snail mail acceptance letter by then, since I have my address set as my address at school in Columbus and I'm at home in NE Ohio right now. So I won't know "how" to pay it before the 1st of January.

Y'know, Squib, after all the email shenanigans you've survived from this school, I'd say it's pretty clear you are meant to go to OSU. To heck with Davis. This is FATE, dude!

I know, it's weird. If it makes you feel better, mine's "due" 12/30 and I still haven't gotten an email and have been unable to contact student affairs..

But I did find this on the FAQs for professional admissions

The Acceptance Fee Statement came too late to return to OSU on time. Is my admission cancelled?
Your admission will not be cancelled if we receive your signed Acceptance Fee Statement a short time after the deadline printed on it. However, applicants should confirm their plans to accept the admission offer with the program if they know they will miss the deadline.

I'm totally confused. I just checked my portal and the professional career accept fee has a due date of 4/15/2011. As does the Professional Vet Med deposit. I thought this was normal as it is the agreed upon decision date but could my date be wrong? I'd hate to screw up something so important. 😱

I wonder if it is later for out-of-staters..are you out-of-state?

That's gotta be a typo, guys. They can't tell you that you're accepted, but only if you commit RIGHT NOW. That would be unfair not only to you, but to the other vet schools too.
 
It's just $25 to hold your spot, you don't have to commit, I think you just lose your $25 if you decide to go somewhere else. I don't know why the deadline would be later for in-staters vs out-of-staters, maybe it's because out-of-staters have to pay the $300 deposit, and they just make it all fees due at the same time..I don't know..
 
Hey everybody who interviewed....

don't forget to go to "interview feedback" and fill out the survey. It definitely helped me to prepare for my interview by reading what previous "victims" had to say. Let's help out next year's applicants!
 
Got my OSU acceptance email today, too! I have two other interviews in January, one of which is for my IS, so I may have a decision to make in February. But talk about the least of my worries! What a wonderful Christmas present to know that come next fall, I'll be in vet school!

Congrats to all you others, too!

No kidding, and thanks for the confidence vote. I've always felt like an oddball, but maybe that's what all of us are, and we are all finally coming together in our own perfect animal, science, and medicine obsessed society.

My acceptance fee is also due 1/1/2011 and I'm IS. Sandra Dawkins told me on 12/14 that my offiical acceptance packet with my acceptance form wouldn't arrive for another 2-3 weeks. So I won't have my form in time either.

I think that the rest of our dates will change to 4/15/2011 like goldnretrivrgrl. Her "decision" status arrived a day or two before ours so it will probably take another day or two for ours to update. If mine doesn't update by 12/27 or 12/28, I was planning on emailing Professional Admissions like EllieGirl89 suggested to let them know I am planning on attending and just haven't received my form in time.

OSU offices are closed 12/23, 12/24 and 12/31 so I'm sure they will be understanding of the fact that mail is slow this time of the year and if the acceptance fee deadline is actually that early, the won't received the deposits on time.

But in all honesty, Davis has A LOT to offer (not just academically). I love the group we have on here, and if I did get into Davis I will have an awfully hard time choosing. Can I count on folks at other schools standing by me even though I have trouble keeping my clothes on at the most inappropriate moments? I don't know.
