Ohio Applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't think they mentioned those stats. I could be wrong though. The admissions presentation is virtually the same one that is posted on the website from last year with maybe a tidbit or two (like the orientation dates) updated. http://vet.osu.edu/education/incoming-class

Thanks! I've seen the admissions presentation you're talking about, and actually I went to look at it again today because I'm obsessive and found that within the link they've changed last year's admissions presentation into this year's financial presentation lol. Oh well, I guess I'll find out on Thursday!

Hey, anybody know how many different teams of interviewers there are? I was just curious. My luck, there's one team that's brutal on its interview subjects, and that'll be the team I get! :scared:

I'll let you in on a secret- you shouldn't worry about it. Haha because I heard through a member of the adcom that there IS one interviewer that is pretty brutal, just in that he doesn't have a sense of humor and when you start getting comfortable you'll look over at him and he's not smiling. But that's just one interviewer, not a team of two, so even if you did get a scary one the other one is bound to be really nice. So just focus on that one =) But really, I think you'll be fine. I've heard nothing but good things, and I have faith that even if you did get a scary interviewer you'll rock it out!

I know that one you speak of... so difficult to read but once you get to know him- great guy. Don't let him intimidate you too much.

Haha yeah when I was talking to this particular adcomm member I told her that he sounds a lot like my main veterinary mentor so he probably wouldn't get to me, though she told me I didn't have him. My MVM (haha) can seem pretty gruff but once you get to know him he's got a fabulous sense of humor and is a wonderful resource and just a really great guy.

Hey Guys!

I've mostly been lurking around here the past few months, but I just had my interview on Saturday and I think I had the interviewer you're speaking of EllieGirl89. I think I managed to get about half a smile out of him at a few points.

But I was on to him, and didn't let it phase me! Woodinator, i don't know if you were around at the end of the day (I had a 3:30 interview) but you might have seen the mishap that happened. There was another girl with my first name who ended up being taken in for my interview (horror of horrors!). It wasn't until they tried to call her name that anyone realized something was wrong.

So, when he came to get me for my actual interview, he was very apologetic, and I knew somewhere beneath that facade was a human being 🙂 It didn't hurt, either, that the woman he was paired with was extremely affirming and easy to talk to. At the end I asked both why they liked OSU and it was extremely compelling to see the passion they both had for their work.

So, moral of the story is be confident in what you have to say, regardless of who your interviewers are. (and sit near to the stairs when waiting for your interview!)

Good for you, tigerlily! It sounds like your interview went well despite the little mishap! How scary! Do they not call out first AND last names? I have a relatively common first name (and an even more common last name) so I would hope that they would call out both!

Yikes, no I didn't see that. I had a 2:45 interview and left right after I got out. Good thing everything worked out in the end though 🙂

Congrats to everyone with interviews!🙂
I was wondering, for those of us that haven't heard anything, are you also still "in review?"
I know about the pool of applicants, but should everybody else who has not gotten an interview, or is not in the pool, be "denied" at this point?
I called but didn't get much info.
Thanks!

For those of you traveling in the midwest, please be careful! If you are driving, be cautious and leave extra time for traveling. Good luck with your interviews!

Ditto this, I ended up stopped on I-80 for 5 hours going back to school yesterday because they shut it down after 25 vehicles ended up crashing at the same spot (low visibility led to people not being able to see the wreck in time). Though the roads are supposed to be clear now, be careful.

Thanks Elliegirl! I felt pretty good about it afterwards, but naturally, I'm over analyzing everything I said at this point, haha.

As for calling out your full-name, it depended on the person, sometimes they called out a person's full-name and other times they didn't. So, silly as it may sound, if you've got a common first name, and they're still calling out only first names, I would definitely double check they're asking for you before you go up. I'm sure it was a much more traumatic experience for the other girl who was being quizzed on all my experiences and had to be pulled out mid-interview..

are they through calling people who were not initially invited to interview??

I called today, because I haven't heard anything and my status has not changed. They looked up my name and said that I was part of "the pool" that might be called for an interview after they decide on those that they are currently interviewing. I don't know if this helps...

Hey there fellow hope-to-be-OSU-ians!! Made it back a little while ago from my interview. Just wanted to weigh in on my experience for all of you still to interview this week. My interview was in the afternoon so I had orientation in the am. The students on the the panel were really great and super-informative. They really did do everything they could to put us at ease. As for the questions I was asked, they were a mixture of general questions and ones more specific to me. It was kinda stressful and there were a few of them that I was somewhat clueless on. But I did what everyone said to do in that situation. I said I didn't know the answer, but my guess is blah blah blah. The interviewers were really nice, but they did ask some difficult questions. Be prepared to answer questions regarding current issues in zoonotics!! I was told that as graduates of the CVM, we will be some of the most knowledgeable people regarding zoonoses, even if they don't heavily relate to animals (such as the human cholera epidemic in Haiti.) At the end, one said I did really well and not to worry, and the other said I had represented myself well. For what it's worth, I think that's what they are really looking for: how do you represent yourself and will you be a good representative for the profession? I guess now the really scary waiting begins! Good luck to the rest of you interviewing this week!!! I hope you all have much success!!:luck:

I just got back from my interview as well. On my application, I indicated an interest in research and infectious diseases so H1N1 and H5N1 came up. They asked me a few very basic questions regarding those diseases that I thought were super easy (ie. where did swine flu originate from? Ans: Swine). They also said if you were in state, your chances of getting in is 1 out of 2 and if you were out of state, your chances is 1 out of 3.

Hope this helps!

Reeeeallly? Who is "they"? your interviewers or the person who did the admissions presentation? That's exciting but scary at the same time in a "I don't want to get my hopes up" sort of way. Glad your interview went well!

jakesmom, glad you had a good experience! That's so exciting that they told you that you did well! Are you in state or out of state? Either way, fingers crossed for you-now it's just to wait!!

"They" is a first year vet student. She told us that while she gave us the tour. I'm not sure if I did well on the interview, I walked away thinking I only did okay. They caught me off guard with a couple of questions. They asked me about team work and I wasn't able to give them a good example that represented me well. I think that OSU is big on teamwork because there is alot of group work for first year vet students so it is extremely important that you are able to get along well with others.

ahh i'm starting to get REALLY nervous:scared:

😀 Try to be excited!! I'm sitting here reading everyone's feedback from the interviews and going back and forth with questions with my mom and I'm starting to get that giddy excitement that comes with being mildly prepared for something you're nervous about. We CAN do this!!

🙂 I know what you mean. Every time I hear a piece of news that could work in my favor, or come up with an answer to a question that I think is really good, I start to get that feeling of "OMG I can do this, I might be able to get myself into school" but then after a while I get the "OMG I'm totally going to screw this up."

But I doubt we're going to screw this up, LoveMyDobies! We're going to go in there, rock it out, and by mid-January we'll be accepted!:xf::luck::xf::luck:

AHHHHHH! Friday can't come soon enough!

:soexcited:

It sucks when you're this giddy and you can't share it with your co-workers.....

I have such a good feeling about this year....

Keepin my fingers crossed for all other interviewees... wish you the best. Don't over-analyze your interviews. I'm sure you all did your best and you should be proud of that. 🙂

EllieGirl, I am an in-stater, so I am feeling really (cautiously:caution:) happy about the 50/50 chance for admission right now!

:biglove: Lalzi, you are exactly one of the "really great and super-informative" people I was talking about!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I was the 30 year old who had taught high school math in CA. I had :prof:Dr. Nongnuch for my interview. She really was as nice as you said she would be!

WHOO HOO! Just met with my boss and I've got the day off (no questions asked) SOOOOOOOO EXCITED!

(yeah.... really wasn't an option for me to have the day off... it was either he gives me the day off with comp time or I take a day without pay.....)

I don't know why but all day I've just been giddy. Every time I check SDN I get this 'little kid in a candystore' feeling.... a 50% shot of getting in this year is far better than what I had last Wednesday..... sooooo excited! (the fact that the office is full of Christmas cookies and I'm loaded on caffeine and sugar isn't helping! I <3 Christmas cookies....)

Lalzi, I definitely got that drink+1!! Wishfully hoping we can grab one together in the fall:xf:!!

lalzi22 will you be involved in Thursday's events? Both EllieGirl89 and I interview Thursday morning.

So, funny story here. I was taking a shower and as I was shutting the water off, I heard my phone ring. I jumped out of the shower, grabbed a towel, ran down the hall half-naked to see that a 614 number was calling! I freaked out, tried to open my phone, only to have it go to voice mail! I was yelling at my phone for them to LEAVE A MESSAGE! LEAVE A MESSAGE! After what seemed like an eternity, I got a voice mail from Dr. Brandt. I called back and got the BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT EVER!! I'm in! They offered me a spot in the Class of 2015!! I'm going to vet school!! I'm still in shock. I hope more than anything that all of you will get to experience what I just did! It is the best feeling in the world!!:soexcited::soexcited::soexcited:

YAY!!!!!!! I was starting to wonder if maybe I'd dreamed my acceptance, but now that you have one too it must have been real! :highfive:YAY!!!! YAY! YAY! (sorry, today's been a really crappy with all sorts of tests and I'm just delighted to hear some happy news) I'm still waiting to hear from my IS but I'm already excited with the idea of going to school in Columbus next year! Classmates!?!?!?

Congrats Jakesmom!!!!

But AHHHHHHH! I can't get phone calls during the day, so I checked my voicemail after work and had a message from OSU. She left two numbers... I tried both, but of course it was after 6 there so no answer. So my brain is going a mile a minute thinking there is no other reason but to accept me to call, but until I hear that, I am freaking out with anxiety and stress! What if there is something missing or something? And they wouldn't call to reject you, would they? I tried checking the admissions portal and it still says I am in review... Those of you who have gotten calls, did your status change?

You better believe I will be up and calling OSU at 8 am their time tomorrow! Until then, you can find me in the fetal position.

😀 I think you'll be getting good news. I just got off the phone with a friend of mine who finished her interview today...she heard from somebody there that they wouldn't be rejecting anybody before the holidays.
