Hi All,

Just wondering if any of you have advice on how long it takes to get a job in the Cleveland area? Is it me, or is it pretty saturated now?

asking regarding a friend who is a pharm D, freshout of school, did not do a residency. Has been looking for like 5-6 months now to no avail.

not seeing much being posted, of what is, alot of it is internal hires, or says 2-3 years experience wanted. so what is someone supposed to do fresh out of pharm school?

Thanks

Ohio seems pretty saturated. I expect that I may need to move out of state to find a position when I graduate in May.

What school did your friend graduate from? If its NEOUCOP there's your answer.

I'm not sure about the retail market but we have hired one pharmacist at our regional hospital (CC) right out of school. I know of other pharmacists that have gotten hospital jobs with PGY1 experience. Again these were OSU and UT grads.

All metro areas are becoming saturated. It's just a matter of time. It took Cleveland a while because there were no schools here.

my friend trained out of state in IL, midwestern (I think that's the name of that school, in Chicago). Do you think that could be a problem?

Is there a time of year when positions open up, such as fall or winter? what's the longest you know of people looking for a job who are stuck in one city due to a significant other?

forget about it

there are no jobs in OH unless you get lucky for new grads

but a few spots if you have residency training or lots of experience

Oh is the worst place outside of the DC-Boston Eastcoast corridor or Southern California to get a job. Why? Well..other than the school thing...it's too easy to get licensed. You don't even have to take an Ohio MPJE. You just send in the form, money, and verification that you are licensed in another state. Show up one day in Columbus at the mass licensure thingymado...and that's it...licensed. It ridiculously easy compared to every other state.

the sad thing is

2 yrs ago retail places were offering 15 k sign on bonuses

in JUST 2 yrs, its come to sorry come back again

but its not all gloom and doom, if you have a residency there are a few spots i know open atm

i would think people would want to get out of OH

terrible weather, terrible economy otherwise esp in CLE and Akron...but nope, people tend to stay

so if you are unable to move from Cleveland and still cant find an entry job, would you all recommend doing a pharm residency?

Is the only way to get hired as a new pharmacist to 'know somebody' ??Because this mass applying thing is getting old especially when all the jobs say 2-3 years experience required...

advice?

you need to network also

a lot of these jobs get advertised for HR purposes, but are already taken up b4 any outsider has had a real chance at it
