I just got my first interview! I just got my first interview! Ohio State on 12/10. Anyone else going that day? Anyone who's already been there have any advice?

Yip Yip Horrah! So so so so happy for you! Since I don't have any of my own, I like to live through others' excitement! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 Seven smileys for good luck!!!

Congrats, monkeyrunner! 😀 Don't forget to add to the "Schools requesting interviews" and "August MCATers with interviews" (if you are an Aug MCATer) threads. Although it's kind of a pain copying the lists, I think it's half the fun of getting an invite! 😀

Congrats. Btw, how long did it take for you to get the interview after submitted their secondary?

I have the same question..I submitted my application like 6 weeks ago and haven't heard anything back since then. I called yesterday and they told me that they are reviewing my application right now..I wonder how long this might take ??
My online status check says referred, did they change yours when they offered you an interview? and if you don't mind sharing your GPA and MCATs and if you are an Ohio resident..thank you so much.

Congrats Monkeyrunner....osu was my first one too....Good Luck! 🙂

OK, to answer everyones questions:

I sent back my secondary on 9/16, BUT, I didn't get my letters of rec sent out until about a month - 5 weeks later (don't remember the exact date, butI got my first file complete notice on 10/29 from UCD where I went to undergrad). I got the interview letter in the mail yesterday, so about 3 weeks after my file would have been complete I guess.

I just checked the online status check, and it still says referred, so no change there.

And finally, I am not an Ohio resident, I'm actually from CA, and stats wise, GPA:3.48, MCAT PS:10 VR:11V BS:13, O.

Thanks Monkeyrunner for the info. Congratulations!!

OSU was my first interview and I think it's a really cool school. I interviewed Oct 8 but my original date was Sept 24... BEcause I live in Canada mail takes forever to get up here so I only got the letter a week before my first scheduled interview on the 24th so I had to reschedule. Anyway, OSU is really laid back and relaxed so don't worry too much about it. And it was my understanding that my letters had not arrived when they sent me the invitation, so your being offered an interview isn't contingent upon them receiving all your letters.

Hi all
I called OSU few days ago checking on my application and guess what they told me..this year they have a new dean and he decided not to give any preference to Ohio residents. both in and out-of-state applicants will be treated the same..what do you guys think? I hate that since I am an ohio resident

That's very interesting. I imagine that everyone applying from out of state (including myself) will like that development, while all Ohio residents won't be such big fans. Hopefully it will be for the better of the entering class, bringing in a more diverse student body.

Ouch, that sucks 🙁 My stats are pretty much only near exact to the averages of the 2001 class...I was hoping my living in Ohio would give me more preference...

its total BS...cuz i dont think the dean is ALLOWED to just not give preference, since the state funds this school. Just my thought.

Believe me it is true..you can call the admission office yourself. I know it sucks. How about right state university or Neoucom...the waiting is driving me crazy !!

Dr Resident Alien,

That is what I thought also!!! Since OSU is a state-funded school I think they have a mandate somewhere saying they have to admit a certain percentage of their students from Ohio (Ohio residents). I am going to contact our state senator (who is actually a relative) to determine what exactly the law is. I will let you all know once I find out. Cookie, do you remember the name of the person who told you that information? That might help in the quest to determine what the truth and the law say!!!

Just changing names, so no one calls me "Dr." again 😀 Im not a Dr. , yet. 😎

CHECK this OUT:
<a href="http://medicine.osu.edu/about/vision.html" target="_blank">http://medicine.osu.edu/about/vision.html</a>

BASICALLY IT SAYS:
The new DEAN wants OSU to compete more on a NATIONAL level and secure more funding outside of state-sponsored grants. He wants OSU to compete "not just locally and regionally, but nationally as well." He thinks OSU can one day match up with "programs at Duke and Johns Hopkins, not just Michigan and Iowa."
