Hi all, I have been lucky to receive multiple med school acceptances and have narrowed down my decision to either Ohio State or Cincinnati. I am currently interested in pursuing ENT but am open to other specialties. I believe both schools have a 1.5 year preclinical. I think I would prefer to attend OSU, but am trying to determine if it is worth the extra $160K.
Ohio State College of Medicine - Tuition ~$160K
Pros
Pros
Ohio State College of Medicine - Tuition ~$160K
Pros
- ~T30
- Hometown - close to family / friends.
- True P/F pre-clinical, no rankings except for scholarship purposes
- Very nice facilities
- Unique ultrasound program
- Early clinical exposure starting in M1
- Strong match list
- Ohio State seems to be more well known
- Very familiar with the school in general
- Columbus is a livelier city
- No scholarship / aid received
- In-house exams, rumors of a switch to NBME soon
- Columbus cost of living slightly higher than Cincinnati
- Have heard mixed reviews about the LSI curriculum
- Slightly lower step 1 scores before it went pass / fail
Pros
- Full tuition scholarship
- Mix of in-house and NBME exams
- Match list seems to be on-par with Ohio State
- Slightly lower cost of living
- Students seem to be more relaxed at Cincinnati
- Cincinnati Childrens is great but don't think I am interested in peds
- Slightly smaller class size (not sure if this is a pro?)
- Ranked lower than Ohio State (not sure of exact ranking ~T40)
- Bi-weekly quizzes on Mondays
- P/F but ranked into quartiles
- 10% M1, 20% M2, 70% M3+M4
- Facilities are more outdated
- Further away from friends and family
- Cincinnati not as nice of a city
