Hi all, I have been lucky to receive multiple med school acceptances and have narrowed down my decision to either Ohio State or Cincinnati. I am currently interested in pursuing ENT but am open to other specialties. I believe both schools have a 1.5 year preclinical. I think I would prefer to attend OSU, but am trying to determine if it is worth the extra $160K.

Ohio State College of Medicine - Tuition ~$160K

Pros

  • ~T30
  • Hometown - close to family / friends.
  • True P/F pre-clinical, no rankings except for scholarship purposes
  • Very nice facilities
  • Unique ultrasound program
  • Early clinical exposure starting in M1
  • Strong match list
  • Ohio State seems to be more well known
  • Very familiar with the school in general
  • Columbus is a livelier city
Cons
  • No scholarship / aid received
  • In-house exams, rumors of a switch to NBME soon
  • Columbus cost of living slightly higher than Cincinnati
  • Have heard mixed reviews about the LSI curriculum
  • Slightly lower step 1 scores before it went pass / fail
University of Cincinnati College of Medicine - Full Tuition Scholarship

Pros

  • Full tuition scholarship
  • Mix of in-house and NBME exams
  • Match list seems to be on-par with Ohio State
  • Slightly lower cost of living
  • Students seem to be more relaxed at Cincinnati
  • Cincinnati Childrens is great but don't think I am interested in peds
  • Slightly smaller class size (not sure if this is a pro?)
Cons
  • Ranked lower than Ohio State (not sure of exact ranking ~T40)
  • Bi-weekly quizzes on Mondays
  • P/F but ranked into quartiles
    • 10% M1, 20% M2, 70% M3+M4
  • Facilities are more outdated
  • Further away from friends and family
  • Cincinnati not as nice of a city
