I wish I could take the rest of the semester off, but since I have to finish Microbio and Biochem2, I am kinda stuck here which really sucks because its hard to concentrate.

Finally got my acceptance letter from the CVM today (post-marked on 1/17, located in Florida). They said more to follow from the Office of Professional Admissions.

How much did you pay off your mail lady for that one?

Oh, this was a cheap one. Only $10. I told her I already knew what the verdict was, but asked her to rush all the others! Those are costing me $20/letter. She's going to be rich by the end of admission season. The best thing is that she's afraid of dogs and runs across the street when I open the door!

I think your dogs, put together, weigh 7 pounds. How is anyone afraid of them?

I just checked the mail again, and nada, but sometimes my mail doesn't get here until later in the afternoon. It would be awesome if it came before I leave for Orlando tonight to fly out to Kansas in the morning! 🙂scared🙂

Yeah, I'm glad the mail got here early today. Usually she doesn't come around until 4:00ish. I'm leaving in the morning for Orlando, but was still glad the letter got here before I fly out to KMCI.

And for the record, the dogs combined weigh 59 pounds!

I really want to give her a call, but I'm afraid that'd be pestering.

I'm still listed as AcadReview and nothing has come in the mail.:scared:

I pestered. 🙂 She said that they haven't made all of their decisions yet and they will be sending out the rest of the letters in the next 2 weeks. Which, to me, translates to 'you are rejected but I can't tell you that, you have to wait for your letter' 🙁

Has anyone been officially rejected yet?? I know they made a big deal about how they won't leave us hanging and they will let us know as soon as we are rejected, but I don't think I've heard of anyone that was rejected. I'm getting frustrated with this whole process!! And the sad part is that it's still VERY early, and Ohio is doing a great job of getting everything done quickly.

For those of you who have been accepted, do all of your status pages (under show required items) say you owe money? I have decision made...but nothing about owing money 🙁

I don't either. Mine just says acceptance conditions. and tells me which classes I need to finish.

Hmm, mine doesnt say anything about that either and I am in the process of finishing Microbio...oh the paranoia! Ha

I have 7 things under my required items. 1-3 are completed, which is official transcripts from all my colleges (dual enrollment + UF). Number 4 is complete Microbiology, 5 is official transcript w/ degree from UF, and both of those say "initiated." The last two say "notified," and those are professional career accept fee and prof vetmed deposit, both due 4/15/2009.

My letter came today too! It's dated 1/15, and basically just says I was accepted. Small envelope, for those who haven't heard news yet. Just the one page. I'm totally taking it with me to Kansas for good luck though. 😀

Oooh! good idea! I think I will follow suit and take my letter to the rest of my interviews. I remember in undergrad, there was this one Inorganic chemistry test I somehow managed to get a 100% on (Electrochemistry, no less!!!). This class was a killer, so I was pretty shocked... Haha. I brought that test with me to every single chemistry exam for the rest of the year as a good luck charm. funny how superstitious difficult classes (or applications) can make you.

P.S. Just got my letter too. Also small envelope dated 1/15... says an official acceptance statement will follow. 😍

I put my letter in my OSU folder, stuffed that into my vet school binder, and stuffed that into my suitcase. My letter is going with me to all my interviews!

Anyone else having the worst time concentrating? I found out I got accepted on Tuesday and everytime I try to sit down to study my mind wanders or I find myself distracted on the OSU website. It's driving me crazy because I know I'm in the home stretch for classes but man it's hard to focus right now. 😛

I feel the same way. I'm trying to look on the bright side that I might be waitlisted and maybe still have a chance, but I don't know... still frustrating, especially because I thought my interview went pretty well and I'd like to think that I'm a good applicant. : /

I finally got my letter in the mail today!

Now where can I buy myself an OSU vet med T-shirt/sweatshirt?

So David, does that mean you are commiting?

Oh and the T-shirt/ sweatshirt thing, unless you live in columbus, its about impossible.

Now where can I buy myself an OSU vet med T-shirt/sweatshirt?

I checked every online store I could and never found a CVM or vet med shirt. The only place that I found was OSU's SCAVMA. If you really want to, you can design your own. I played around with that idea, made a pretty neat t-shirt design, and got a quote of $25 for 1 shirt. Price goes down with volume orders!

If anyone has a link to a shirt sold by the bookstore or anything like that, please feel free to post it!

Still need to wait and hear on florida. My boss and LOR writer was a graduate from there and did a residency there. I think he would be quite insulted if I turned florida down without even giving it a shot. So once they reject me I can go to Ohio without any hard feelings.

completely understand. What makes you think you will get rejected?

Just the numerical odds. Reality is that I kind of hope they do as it will then take the ultimate decision of where to go out of my hands.

I understand that. What are the stats there? Did you get an interview?

We dont find out about interviews until mid-February. Interviews would then be held mid-March and decisions would be received towards the end of March.

So their process is incredibly long and drawn out compared to OSU's.

That blows. Too bad you have to wait so long. I'm glad OSU switched to this new procedure.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of the OSU approach. It was a whole 8 days between when I first found out I was offered an interview and being accepted.

If anyone is interested, the Midwest Veterinary Conference is held in Columbus every year and is free to pre-vet students. There are break out sessions that are usually pretty interesting; some of them are all about the application process and HOW to get into vet school, so they aren't very applicable to us anymore, but it might be worth going to, especially since it's free. They also discuss financial aid and bioterrorism in relation to vet med among other topics. And the vendors that are there are always wonderful, like Hills and IntraVet (you get a TON of free stuff!) Free lunch too. They keynote speaker a few years ago was Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald and last year, if I remember correctly, it was Temple Grandin.

OSU-CVM always has a booth with merchandise on sale, so coming down for the conference could be your excuse to buy something.

The conference is held on Feb 21st, a Friday. You can register online here:
http://www.mvcinfo.org/

Let me know if you have any questions or want a buddy to go with!

They also hold an annual pre-vet conference in conjunction with Midwest conference. It is usually held that saturday. Just sign up online and show up. I went last year. Pretty informative about the whole appl. process, most of us know about that already.

I guess it is time for me to stop reading the ohio thread bc I just called ohio state and learned that they are done with the interviews meaning no more interview invitations, meaning rejection... they said they are going to mail out the decisions in couple days or sth.. oh well, congrats to those who got in and good luck to us who didn't got in for other schools!

Congrats to everyone who was accepted (and I'm sorry, for those who weren't).

As far as vet med merchandise, you can't buy anything vet med at the bookstores. Some of the student organizations have merchandise on their web pages, but unfortunately a lot of them aren't really up to date. The student organizations sell merchandise several times every year (MVC, Open House, Orientation, Graduation, and Christmas) so if nothing else, you can buy stuff at your orientation. If there's any way you can make it to MVC, we will have a table there with loads of stuff - clothing, mugs, stickers for your car, blankets, etc.

Ugh. Sounds like Davis.
I feel like I've been put on pause mid-celebratory dance...
Well David, here's to waiting until the last minute! You won't be alone. 😛

I got my letter today! It is such a relief to finally see that "Congratulations!" in writing. 😀

Is it just me, or was anyone else a little disappointed about the content of the aceptance letter. Don't get me wrong, it was a good letter and i'm glad I have it, but from what a vet I have shadowed told me that the letter he received made him feel like one of the smartest and most honored people in the world. From what my hopes were on the content of this letter, it was a let down.

Yeah. But the phone call I got totally made up for it.
Maybe they are saving the warm-fuzzies for the acceptance statement

Let's hope so. I wonder when that letter from the office of professional admissions will be coming. On that note, I actually received a call from my interviewer the other day. He wanted to know how I was doing and to see if I sent in my official acceptance statement yet (except we haven't received them or I would have). He also wanted to make sure I didn't change my mind...Ya right, like that is going to happen!

Hey everyone! Don't worry about your acceptance letter. It was like that last year too.
The really awesome mail starts coming later on, around June if they stay true to last years time table (but they've mixed it up this year, so I can't be sure). That's when you get the big sib info and your really amazing welcome letter and a bunch of other exciting stuff😀

I don't know if you've checked out the osu website, but they've posted the welome letter for 2013 on their incoming class page (http://vet.osu.edu/2693.htm) and that should give you guys the warm fuzzy feelings!

And Congratulations! I hope to see you all next year!

For as much as I might have been dissappointed with the acceptance letter the hone call I received in december made up for it. After they went on about how the definitesw(good and bad) would hear right awaay I figured an ohio phone call that early was bad news.

I got the samme interview followup call and it was definitely nice. He asked me if there was anything he couuld do to help me make my decision aand I am just regretting not asking for more scholarship money. 🙂

For those OOS, when are you planning on moving to Ohio. I've been thinking a lot about that and I'm not sure whether to go as soon as my classes are done and try and find a job that I can work at until then or to stay and work at my current job as long as I can and then go a few weeks before classes start. What are your thoughts? And how are you going about in order to find housing and roommates?

If you want in state tuition then I would move as soon as possible. I think you must live in Ohio for 1 year before you qualify. So, if you moved before spring quarter you would only have to pay 2/3 of a year of out of state tuition opposed to waiting until September and then paying a full years worth. But it is just money I guess.

Received my Acceptance Fee letter today in the mail.👍 It was post-marked 1/24/09, for anyone who has been checking their mailbox religiously since receiving their first letter, like me.

Congrats, IcyPatch!!😀 Just wondering if you first heard about your acceptance by phone call or if the letter in the mail was your first time hearing about it. Waiting on OSU is driving me insane. I called them last week and they said they did not have a status for me yet. Very discouraging.

Thanks for your help and congrats again!

Thanks. I just out of class on 1/20 and got a phone call at about 11:30am on my way home from class. Got home grabbed the mail on the way in and my letter was in the mail. So, technically I heard by phone first, but received both on the same day.

I have a friend who still hasn't heard anything yet either. Her stomach is in knots about the whole thing. Just wanted you to know your not the only one out there still waiting.

Even my status page still says that I'm under academic review. Soooo frustrating, it's been a month and a half since my interview and I just want to know already. I feel like them not saying that a decision has been made is a bad sign. 🙁

Yeah, I feel that way also, but I know someone on here was in the same boat were are in now, and they got a call a couple of days ago (sometime last week). That is the only thing keeping me afloat. Good luck to you bunnyslippers, and thanks for the info Icy!

hello everyone. i am new to SDN. I have been reading your posts about not hearing about Ohio for us OOStaters. I finallly got the courage to call today to check the status of my application (since my status currently says academic review like a lot of people). Unfortunately I am waitlisted, but i guess that is better than to hear I was denied. I was on my way to work so I forgot to ask her how fast or slow the waitlist goes. If any one finds out it would be great to hear back. thanks and good luck to everyone!!!!🙂

I am sorry to hear you are waitlisted. I had called twice within the past week (last Tuesday being the most recent time I called). both times they said they still had no status for me, and I am afraid of bugging them again. If I happen to hear about waitlists and how fast they move if I am even on one, then I will let you know.
