Aw, Doc Bag' is cool. As an Oregon IS-er, he makes some worthwhile points.

Dang, I "just happened" to be at the mailbox when the letter carrier pulled up... and... NOTHING! Just a birthday card that wasn't even for me, and another one of those pitch pieces from the Oregon Symphony. :scared: :scared:GAAAAH!:scared: :scared:

I decided to bite the bullet and call. Voice mail. Freakin' lunch hour!

what number are you guys calling to get a status update?

call 503-494-5950, I just spoke to someone at that number.

Hey ya'll as of Friday I was "not offered a seat." Im going to find out in early June what I need to improve so I can apply next year when I will be an OR resident. Besides not being a resident I don't see what im missing in my app. I have 31R 3.75 overall 3.65 bcmp, ive been an ER tech atleast 25 hours a week since my second year in college, and ive done research in a medically pertinent topic (antibiotic resistance mechanisms of S. aureus) which I have two second author publications for. It sucks that besides UW which rejected me pre secondary that there are no other med schools in the northwest which is where I have to go to school for personal reasons, which is something I discussed at my interview. Oh well, maybe next year...good luck to all on the alternate list!

try the new DO school, PNUHS (interesting acronym), in Yakima. Oh, it looks like they've changed it on their website: http://www.pnwu.org/

With your stats and experience I'd figure you'd be a slam dunk. Hope next year's application cycle treats you better.

I spoke with someone in admissions today that said I am still in the "hold pool." I replied that I have been in the hold pool since post interview 5 months ago. Does anyone know if this is the alternate list? The lady I spoke with was very nice but didn't seem to have a very clear answer. She said that this hold/alternate list would be ranked by June 12th (she used the terms "hold pool" and "alternate list" interchangeably). I'm assuming I made the May 15th rejection cut, but didn't get accepted? I guess I am very confused because in years past, people found out their alternate list ranking with their letter on May 15th. Crap, I really want to know if I'll be going to OHSU or moving. I hope I have atleast a better idea well before June 12? P.S. I still haven't received my letter in the mail, maybe that will shed some light on the topic. Let me know you guys have some insight.

Well, OHSU made this whole debate academic for me today. For several months I was in limbo, but they decided to reject me flat today. Oh well. Good luck to the rest of you, especially the intstaters.

Same problem I've encountered. Interviewed Jan 3rd, got put in the hold pool by February, and haven't had any written correspondance since. Phone calls and emails have had conflicting info... One lady told me that the hold pool is different from the alternate list and that the hold pool gets split into acceptances, ranked alternate/wait list, and rejections on May 15th. One other correspondance mirrored your impression... that the hold pool and alternate list is essentially the same thing and they'd have it ranked by "mid June."

It's frustrating for me because I'm alternate listed at Georgetown and West Virginia as well and neither of them rank their lists... so I'm on hold at THREE schools and still have NO idea where I stand at any of them.

I'll be withdrawing today. I am actually a little sad, Portland seemed cool. Good luck!

Got something in the mail yesterday from OHSU... I was so nervous and when I opened it there was a bill inside from the OHSU medical group from a visit last August. I couldn't believe the timing that they'd send me a bill while I'm waiting for my aceptance/rejection/waitlist letter. 😡

Hmm, so maybe Han Shot First's conceptualization is better. 🙂 The thing is that there's still a lot of hope for those of you in the alternate list. It really sucks that they won't tell you your rank until June 12.

Oh yeah, I'm a she. 🙂

Hey guys I just called Lori, she said they sent out my letter Friday. I'm in!!!

First acceptance. Just called my mom!

That is classic.

Nope, I was wrong. What I was trying to drill down on in that previous discussion was whether the ranking of the entire interview pool would be completed and released on May 15. Based on what the dean dude said on interview day, I had expected to be notified of my rank in the letter I ended up getting today. But apparently you, Stinky etc. had it right... the language of the letter was pretty clear and it would seem that they really only ranked enough to get that top 120 dialed in, and the rest of us will get fully ranked over the next 4 weeks. Ugh.+pissed+

The thing is that there's still a lot of hope for those of you in the alternate list. It really sucks that they won't tell you your rank until June 12.

Yes... it does indeed suck!

Oh yeah, I'm a she. 🙂

I knew it! 🙂 Right after I posted, I thought "you know, I just wrote 'he' for no reason, and with my luck DB will turn out to be a she!"

I was at work and my sister opend my letter. Blah blah blah, alternate list, blah blah blah June 12th. At least it's not a rejection. Congrats on getting into Mayo, Melissa!

yeah, so here's my story:

I've tried calling admissions at (503)494-2998 (pressed 2 to talk to someone) since Monday but after 4 rings it goes to a voicemail that happens to be full.

I then called a series of numbers and eventually received this one. (503)494-5950 where a lady told me that this year they are dealing with some overviews of the admissions processes which means that they have no idea whatsoever where i rank and wont know until 'mid june'.

I tried explaining to her that in previous phone calls I was assured I would know at least which third of the 'hold pool' I would fall into by May 15th, but she said she has heard of no such thing. I then brought up that

1) I believe my letter said I would hear something by May 15th,
2) that other schools that have accepted me begin classes as early as 8/3/07
3) that OHSUs last interview session is well over and all the candidates were allegedly scored as of the Friday prior

But, she stuck to the same line that gets everyone riled up about OHSU admissions: "I guess each applicant must do what's best for them given their situation."

👎for ohsu.
I've heard multiple rationales given by multiple people. And that's when one can actually get through to speak with someone.
I have a 35 MCAT and 3.8 GPA with great extra curriculars. I interviewed in October and they have yet to give me any definitive status. Even now, May 16th, I haven't received any snail mail or e-mail or phone call on their behalf letting me know where I stand.

I have given them the benefit of every doubt and tried to look past it only because Oregon is where I call home, but if their application process is at all indicative of their quality of education, the school is not worth my or any of your time. Thankfully, I have acceptances elsewhere at schools.
</end rant>

Motamedn, I live in Portland and only got my letter yesterday, on the 15th (alternate/waitlist). I hope yours comes tomorrow. I sympathesize with your frustration.

Thanks! Congrats lego, and good luck to everyone on the waitlist!

I was rejected... 🙁

I'm really disappointed and I would've accepted the offer in a heartbeat. I guess I'll be in Syracuse in the fall.

Good luck to the rest of you who still have hope.

so I got my alternate list letter, and it doesn't mention a June 12th date... What do the other letters say? hmmm...

Mine says:

You have been selected for the alternate list. The Admissions Committee will rank the alternate list in early June. You will be notified of your exact position on the alternate list by June 12.

There is nothing about that which does not suck. Some schools start in July...they don't give you much time do they 👎

Hmmmm....Strange, mine also said June 12th. I am wondering what they are up to. This is just a guess, but I wonder if there are two lists? Maybe the one you are on will be picked from first (before June 12th)??? Of those accepted thus far, some will decline their acceptances soon --weeks before June 12th. Who do they fill those positions with? Do they wait until they rank the alternate list and then systematically choose us (after June 12th) or do they have another group of people to pick from??? Of course this is just paranoia, probably. I have been trying to figure out why we are waiting until
June 12th to get ranked.

Wait so what does yours say then?

anyone else hear any news, good or otherwise? My parents are still holding onto some hope that I might actually get in. The late date is making it a bit dicey for finding a place, in KC or Ptown....

I got the letter with the mid-June ranking note. I just got accepted at WVU, but being from Oregon and wanting to stay in Oregon as a doctor, OHSU is clearly my #1. If I am still in limbo with them when I have to commit for good I'm going to be royally upset.

ok, so looking through the prereq's, I'm a little worried that I haven't completed the OHSU "genetics" requirement. I'm a biochem major and I've had 2 semesters of biology, 2 of biochem, 2 of p. chem, and other higher level biology/biochem. courses. I just haven't had a course that has "genetics" in the title. I really would love to go to OHSU, so I don't want to mess up by missing this requirement.

I'm sure that other people out there have run into the same problem with the "at least one genetics course" requirement. My question is, although I'm an alternate, should I find and take an online course in genetics so in case I do get off the waitlist, it will be ok?

Can anyone recommend courses? The school I'm working at this summer doesn't haven't any summer genetics courses. Has anyone taken an online genetics course that they could recommend? I found an online course (I think from Iowa), but the last day to register is Monday!

Any help/advice would be great. Thanks in advance 😀

Personally, I'd call the admissions office and ask. Genetics is supposed to be a lower division biology requirement (it was BIOL202 for me), so I'd imagine one of your lower division bio prereq's covered it. If you learned about reading frames and transposons and such somewhere, you probably have a class that covers it. But like I said, a quick call to their admissions where they can pull your file and look at your AMCAS should suffice. Even though the OHSU admissions process is a drag, they have genuinely nice people in the admissions office in my experience.

That's sucks, my prehealth advisor told me that OHSU has requires their students take an upper division genetics course (thus I am taking it now). Oregon State University offers upper division genetics online in the summer, but their term ends just after August 13th. In any case you should call to see if you have met this requirement, or if you make some kind of deal to have this requirement completed after matriculation but before classes start.

:luck: Good luck on June 12th everyone! :luck:

happy monday to everyone!!!!!

i called debbie this afternoon and found out the following:

alternate list was ranked last friday.
letters were sent friday.

my number is #130 out of 167......🙄 oh well

they have currently accepted through #24

first day of orientation is august 13th and the alternate list will close at the end of that week.

GOOD LUCK TO THOSE WHO ARE WAITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:luck::luck::luck::luck::luck::luck::luck:

Thanks for the useful information🙂 I live in Portland and did not get a letter today...

I just called and spoke with Lori Toner. I'm #59 on the alt. list. I know that they have accepted up to the 90's in the previous two years but considering that they have had 100 more interviewee's than usual, what do you think my chances might be?

I got my letter--I'm in!

Good luck to everyone on the waiting list!

Looks like I'm going to be staying in state! I hope that we get deep into the alternate list for all those other people. I was a bit surprised to recieve something BEFORE they said to expect something. Time to start looking seriously at pads in Ptown...

Hey guys,

I'm on the alternate list at OHSU and am still hoping to receive admission at some point. The only problem is I haven't taken genetics, which is a requirement for matriculation into OHSU. Does anyone know of any online genetics courses that I could take? If you have any info about this please let me know ASAP.

Thanks 🙂

Someone asked this question just a few posts ago on this very thread.

More movement on the waiting list... I got my acceptance letter too!

It was mailed May 27th... sorry it took me so long to post here but I'm in Europe at the moment.

Good luck to everyone else on the list!

You will find this answer in numerous other postings. But, to save you (and the server) search time, the answer is yes, you need to take a course specifically relating to biological genetics. Principles of Biology (although it does dabble in genetics) does not count. A course such as 'BIO 381 - Intro. to Genetics' is an example of a genetics course that would satisfy this requirement.

Further, Portland State University offers a 6-8 week Intro. to Genetics course every summer term. Even if you are not admitted to PSU, you can take the course by completing a quick-entry application to the school. This application will get processed very quickly, but will limit you to 8 credits per term (or something like this -- check with them to make sure). This will allow you to take the genetics course, thus fulfilling your genetics requirement for OHSU. Of course, this is all assuming you have already relocated to the greater Portland area. If you haven't, try taking a genetics course during the summer at school near you.

Hey everyone - what's up with OHSU's website and posting the alternate list? It was there, showed they are up to #24, then it disappeared! Or am I looking in the right place? I'm #48, it's driving me crazy looking for an update?

The good news is that you're probably just looking at the wrong page... you want this one:

http://www.ohsu.edu/ohsuedu/academic/som/admissions.cfm

The bad news is that they've been stuck on #25 for nearly a week :beat:

I've been looking for this page for awhile now. I figured they'd have the number at the top. There's just too much suspense in the scroll down...
