OHSU Interviews

Any in-state interviews this month? I saw a couple in state acceptances December 1st but haven't heard anything since. I'm curious how many seats are left?

I heard that was 106 in-state apps this year and a large group of interviews should be sent out mid-next week!

Just out of curiosity, who was your source? I sure hope you're right!

That info was from Mark Mitchell, the Associate Dean of Admissions at OHSUduring one of the PSU predental meetings. But I'm sure they are busy getting ready for the Give Kids a Smile day tomorrow.

Good source! 🙂 I'm from PSU too. 😎

Anything? They told me they will be handing out in state interviews the next couple of months.

Sigh, feels like Oregon residents are lowest priority... Or they really are just THAT far behind.... Either way is a bummer really...

What??! Did you talk to them today? Whatever happened to Mark telling someone it was going to happen last week? Now it's a couple of months from now?! What a disappointment...

Not a couple months from now, within the next couple of months they'll finish in state interviews. According to receptionist, not Mark.

Does anyone know how to establish a residency in OR? I have some money set aside and I am willing to buy a house or something. I honestly see myself settling in Portland although I love AZ so much.
any advice is appreciated!!!

Are they done with out of state interviews?

I assume they are still doing them, according to PreDents they were interviewing OOS all the way into April last year. Anyone else OOS who got the competietive letter still waiting on an interview?

I got the competitive letter...but still waiting.

Haha, sorry, meant to ditto the congrats not the invite!

In state interview! Very excited, hope you guys hear something as well.

Congratulations! Did they happen to mention how many in-state seats are open??🙂

They did not but the student I had lunch with said it seems like they haven't interviewed many people.

Is there anyone in state that attended the "AADSAS Information Night at OHSU School of Dentistry" on Feb 23rd? I was going to attend and try to grill the dean, but had an interview out of state. Did anyone find out anything about how (/if) interviews are coming along? Curious, as it's March and all....

Sorry Cubs, I didn't go.

Anyone hear anything?? Geesh...this waiting for OHSU is killing me and soon my second deposit will be due to Tufts. I'm trying to plan for either staying put or moving cross country in a few months! I need to know!

tcn79 I feel your pain. I'm going insane checking my email 100x a day. Do you know when they stop interviewing?

Yeah, the waiting on OHSU is not cool. tcn, are you waiting to hear from OHSU for an interview? Or for an acceptance? That is, have you interviewed at OHSU? I haven't, but would expect to get one. I just don't think they have interviewed many people.

I'm in a similar situation: been accepted elsewhere, but haven't heard anything from OHSU.

I haven't interviewed there either yet this year. I'm a fourth time reapplicant this cycle and I've interviewed there before twice but waitlisted each time. I've heard from several sources that they are just extremely slow this year and haven't done much interviewing. I called recently and they said they are still conducting interviews but she couldn't give me seats remaining or when the next batch would go out. 🙁 I got the competitive letter back in November? and it seems the rumor is that with a competitive letter, you get an interview but who knows! Good luck all!

I know they still need to hand out some in state interviews. It's super frustrating, sorry guys. My theory is that they are trying to worry about out of state first since they need to secure their money for the new building (tuition including in state will be rising quite a bit because of it). If you look at previous cycles they say they are only going to accept 35 in state but they end up accepting 43 in state by the end of the cycle. I think this is because Out of staters change their mind and the school has to rush to find a replacement...and since they interview so darn late everyone is usually committed. They know Oregon residents will attend in a heartbeat so they aren't worrying about that just yet. Just my theory but I think I'm right 🙂

Yeah, that's the same feeling I've been getting, too. I know they're really trying to get out of staters, and the later it gets, the harder it is to seal the deal. I'm also a little concerned about how many in-state applicants above the allotted 35 will get in. I know it gives me a better chance to get in, but if they aren't able to land OOS, they're losing money.

Irks me: OHSU has one of the earliest deadlines for applications, but they're one of the latest to interview. I know it doesn't help to make this thread into a bitch session, but it's just so frustrating.

Does anyone know if OHSU has a history of accepting in-state students who had a pre-Dec interview this late? I'm pretty down on my chances right now since I have yet to hear anything since.

I have a friend who interviewed in November and was accepted off the waiting list in May I believe. Everything runs later now so who knows.

I'm not totally sure on that. I was told, however, that there will be a total of two rounds of interviewing: the early round pre-Dec and then the interviews that are happening now. I don't think a lot of people interviewed early (like 20?), so they may kind of pool everything together and pick and choose from both rounds. Speculation, of course....

I am also a resident and interviewed pre-dec and I still haven't heard anything yet.
