OHSU (IS)
Pros:
UNLV (OOS)
Pros:
Overall, I think OHSU and UNLV are both great options. I honestly don’t know how the cost of living compares—because if Vegas is even just a little bit cheaper to live in than Portland, it would potentially offset the slightly more expensive tuition and fees at UNLV (OHSU is cheaper in terms of tuition and fees by 15-20k over 4 years). My wife and I don’t plan on practicing in Oregon or Nevada, so that factor isn’t really important. I’ve heard that both have strong clinical programs, but would love to hear any input to help me decide between these two great schools! And please let me know if I’m missing anything! Thanks!!
Pros:
- Close to home
- Cheaper (~245k tuition and fees)
- Beautiful area
- Great clinical program
- Grandpa and tons of home town dentists I’ve shadowed went here, so I have heard a lot of positive experiences from them
- Weather (colder and wetter)
- Is Portland still burning up? Lol
UNLV (OOS)
Pros:
- Better weather
- Great clinical experience and community outreach
- Get IS tuition after year 1, so total tuition and fees end up being ~260k for 4 years
- Further from home
- Longer commute
