This is just an opinion, but you should be fine with the score as is-unless you don't have any ec's shadowing, etc. I would only retake if you are confident that you can raise your score on the next test. Retaking will also show the adcom that you are not content with your performance and wish to always "do better." They will wonder why you didn't retake if you don't-so I would have an excuse ready for the interview. It wouldn't hurt you to retake (it would probably help), just be sure that your score doesn't go down. In the end, it probably doesn't matter much.

First of all,
You are guys are the shiznat at replying to these posts. I can't believe I didn't know about these forums until last week.

As for my EC's go:
-I work in Dr. Rennaker's Neural Engineering Lab (I am a Mechanical Eng. Major)
-I am a trained phlebotomist and I have worked at Norman Regional Hospital as a phlebotomist and Lab assistant in the pathology lab for over a year now.
-I began shadowing docs in late may. I have four docs that I shadow right now (Family Practice, Neurology, ER, Cardiology).

hey dude, you're fine, your MCAT is avg while your GPA is above avg at OU. I agree w/ adsharp though, I would retake the MCAT only if you are confident that your scores would go up, this way it'll leave no room for the adcom to ask "why didn't you retake?" (a common interview question) Alrighty. gluck bud.

Just to reiterate the point that the adcoms expect you to retake I attended the workshop for re-applicants and the point about retaking the MCAT was brought up several times. I believe Nancy Hall said that if you got 10 and the average accepted score is 10, not retaking it shows that you are okay with being just average. I personally think that this is a bunch of crap, they literally expect you to take the MCAT every time it is offered until you are accepted to show that you are working on improving your application.

I am only applying to OU, have only taken the MCAT once and do not plan on ever taking it again. I plan on explaining that I don't believe a higher MCAT would improve my application (I have a high MCAT, low GPA). Like others said before your score is fine, just be prepared to explain if you don't retake. It would probably help to retake, if your not just incredibly lazy like me 🙂

So, I haven't really asked this question since junior high, but does anyone know when we can expect our "school supply list"? (stethoscope, dissecting kit, scrubs, etc) Will we get them soon or will they expect us to buy EVERYTHING all at once over orientation?

You should get it before long. However, I just waited until orientation to buy most of my stuff. Search the threads for the books that you should buy. The only other things are a lab coat and a dissecting kit.

You might consider investing in a good stethoscope as well. Some of your first year rotations may expect you to have one. Littman Cardiology III is a good choice.

I know I probably should have asked this a long time ago, but how does Gross Anatomy dissection work at OU? How many people share a body/do dissection groups have anything to do with mods/are you supposed to be present for every day your body is being worked on or just every other day/etc?

Just wanted to add that on the alternate days when you demonstrate rather than dissect, you're only there for like 10 minutes or so. Really, one or two people usually demonstrate to the four who are dissecting, and the other people stand there with there fingers in their noses, beause there isn't room for 8 people to crowd around the body.

I think you guys should try to change it to where each of the four of you rotates in your demonstrating. That way only you only have to go to every fourth demonstration, you have more time to study, you don't have to go to school that day if you don't want to, and you don't get 10 minutes worth of formaldehyde stink in your clothes for no reason.

im still studying for the MCAT, ill have it in the first week of school for both amcas and aacomas hopefully, im pretty close to done, just have the PS work to do.
