What if my school, my school identity, my school identification, and my school of preference do not agree with each other?

For some reason that sounds like something I've heard before, but I was so traumatized by the attack of the 20 foot tall beaver lips and Donna getting pummelled doggystyle while she hugged a teddy-bear, I blocked out most of tues-thurs for the last two weeks...

All I remember from HB was thinking Dr. Tucker is probably a closet dominatrix, with a massive porn collection. I may be wrong, but it helped to pass the time. "IT PUTS THE GIMP-SUIT ON ITS SKIN!!!" Wa-PISH!! (best phonetic whip noise I have...)

But I may not be right, in the head.

HAHAHAHA, man, I hope no one from the administration reads this board.

I liked the bewildered lady messing with the dilators and the poor guy who couldn't respond to his wife. Trauma for me was that over-excited guy who kept jiggling around on the bed while his wife was lending a hand.

Yeah I talked at length with Dr. Tucker about women faking orgasms later on. She confirmed my view that it really isn't possible unless the dude is a fool because the associated uterine contractions are sympathetically generated (i.e. not under conscious control). Acting and pubococcygeus contraction will only take you so far.

I'm probably frightening the MD hopefuls.

Did you see her? I'd have problems, too...that's not nice...

And the dilator chick was killing me. Her lith-p just made it funnier. "stuff just feels tho funny up there..." I like how at the end she was all "then I put the #2 in, and that wath NOTHIN'!!" Dr. Tucker cut the clip short, because right after that, it tied back into our Rads guy from Gross that had all the foreign body films: "Hmmmm. What elth do I have thath bigger than the #2??..."

<-----proving married people aren't necessarily more mature for 9 years now...

you all are freaking me out!!! not so sure i want to go into medicine now! are you all referring to stuff you learned in one of your classes? wow!!!

Good luck to those of you with interviews tomorrow!

It's test block 2 next week, so the folks giving tours are gonna look kind of stressed as well. 😉 Unless, of course, Michael had to wrangle some MS3s and 4s to give tours.
Nope, it was all 1st and 2nd years both days (Wednesday and Thursday). We have a gard time getting the 3rd and 4th years to do it, but that is probably b/c they can't get away from their rotation.

Don't be skeered...

It is only sick the first time.

Just like so much of life...

Cheers!!

The dilator one killed me, but the funniest was the premature-ejaculation dude. Most traumatizing was the old couple going at it. I'd slap my husband if he kept ruffling my hair while we were fooling around...hope you guys got to see that one.

Sleep while you can future MSI's, for tomorrow The Chung cometh...:scared:

What in the hell just happened to this thread.

The old couple was kind of cute.

Cute in a dear God I don't really need to see folks that old naked and going at it. Really, you can just tell me that folks never really lose their sex drive. I'll believe you.

Grandma...?!

I looked at my grandparents differently when we went home for the holidays last year.

And the school loves you to, RachelD! There are tons of superficial teenagers on campus, but how many people can say that they succeed in medical school while managing a home full of little ones? We're inspired.

Gee, thanks!😳 WHO ARE YOU? Could you wink at me in class or something so I know who you are! I can't stand not knowing!😉

I'm in the mod waiting for the embryo review to start, Yuck! I can't wait till this time next week. Anyone planning on going to the halloween party?

I love the porn in class, I'd rather look at naked live people than naked dead Benny down in the lab.

Have a great weekend, Contract, Relax, Contract, Relax.....

I talked to you during orientation. That's how I know you have kids. I was that dude sitting behind you on the bus. I'd wink, but I stopped going to class weeks ago.

Let me know how that review went. Embryo is actually the only class I'm struggling with contrary to just about everybody else at the school. I know of no halloween party.

They have better shows on HBO with actual modern/groomed people in them. I kept thinking that John Holmes was going to walk in the door and crack some cheesy joke.

I know of no halloween party.

halloween party next friday. its supposed to be an ms1-4 thing. i dont think they have said where its going to be but, should be fun so start thinking of your costume. ive got 50 bucks that says there are at least 10 borats at the party. im leavinig town after test block so im kinda bummed i will miss it.

p.s. if any dresses up like a doctor, they should immediately be ostracized from the event. unless they dress up like dr. rey and do karate all night, that would be funny.

Thanks glp. I think I'm going to go as "The Crow." (South Park reference)

Okay, guys, I'm really bored so I'm going to chat a tad. I was sitting in the module reading stuff on SDN the other day when I read "med school is just like high school with scalpels." As I pondered that a bit, a voice came over the intercom that said, "(Student X), please come to room 100." I then thought, that's weird, I haven't heard anything like that since.....

So I was wondering if anybody else had some thoughts about how medical education is like high school and/or how OU might be more or less similar to other places that the pre-allo students might be considering with respect to this topic. I never really noticed the connection until the other day. They actually made me go to class in high school, so I'm less inclined to buy the high school analogy.

No one can go as the Crow, they will not be let in. You must have a wrist band. If you don't you won't be let in.

I made a comment like that in my mod right after the intercom came on. I don't think that it is exactly like high school, but there are plenty of similarities. I think med school is more like high school socially, except everyone lacks social skills (myself included).

The embryo review was ok. Nothing new. I've heard the best way to study is to go through the powerpoints (she said she would put the review powerpoints up today) and note groups (more important than the syllabus) and to study the clinical stuff because if she talks about it in class it should be on the test (this is from the guide the MS2's gave us).
If anyone needs reviews for Weigel, Olson or Rodgers someone in my mod sent me some. I'd post them on the discussion board but I figured the person who gave them to me should do it. Anyway, e-mail me if you want them.

I guess we've hijacked the 2011 thread! Sorry guys!

Professional school is like high school in general because you have a big group of people all in the same place, all doing the same things and all following the same schedule. In law school, we even had bells between classes and lockers -- both were actually useful because we had heavy books and long-winded professors who tended to go over the class period, but it still seemed a little creepy. My bet is that it's a universal experience that's not unique to OU.

Bleh, this will be a bad weekend. 🙁

😍
Fiona Apple is in okc tonight.
Alas...

I cannot learn ALL this biochem crap.
😡
Hell, Dr. Rodgers listed all kinds of junk we're supposed to know and she only has 8 questions.

"Carboxypeptidase B cleaves off Arg or Lys IF they're also the most C-terminal residue except on Thursdays and Saturdays between 2:30 and 2:57pm but you have to be wearing a red shirt at the time or you'll use Trypsin to cleave it."

This **** better be on the test :meanie:

edit: rodgers has 21, not 8. Had a blonde moment...and bald blonde moment.

I haven't studied Leon's material at all, but it also looks like he listed a lot of stuff to know ( at least I got this from skimming notegroups for his review session). He, too, only has 8 questions. Olson supposedly has the hardest questions, so it's too bad she writes most of the questions for the exam.

oh man...I had to look up what a Porphyrin was the other day.

Everyone stop studying and watch OU play Mizzou. It's sacrilege not to watch.

where is the breakdown of the questions for the biochem exam?

Weigel=29
Olson=33
Rodgers=21
Leon=8
Diabetes CC=8

Why the h*ll was I thinking Rodgers only had 8 ? ugggg

Thanks Johnny--this is the first I've heard of the breakdown too. Maybe I should go to class. Naw.

I'm clueless for the porphyrin stuff. I listened to the lectures twice, read the notegroups (which have an error on them by the way, pg. 3 of B-1-082 X. C. Fe 2+ is ferrous, not ferric iron), looked at the syllabus, etc. Still lost--prefer the Weigel/Olson/Rodgers syllabus format.

There is one person who is probably funding her tuition doing our notegroups for us.

Notegroups should be 100% free for everyone who just wants the digital version. It is a ripoff that the students do ALL the work in making the notes and then also have to pay to read them.

I can see paying for hardcopies in your mailbox to cover printing costs, although I think that's overpriced too. If the whole class paid the $145 or whatever it was ... 145x165 ~ $24,000 for b/w printing? lol

And the woman running notegroups is making $200/month from our notegroups fees? To do what? It would take about 15 minutes to schedule the people to take notes. Other than that I don't think she does anything. lol

I hate the end of daylight saving time but at least it gives us an extra hour to sleep/study tonight.

Good luck everyone! (you too, future 2011'ers... if you still want to be a part of this thread)

They earn their money, in my opinion. At least John does for our class. 😉 There's a lot that goes into quality assurance, managing the schedules, enforcing penalties, etc. It's not an easy job.

Still, if you've got legitimate questions about where the money goes, bring it up with your class officers. It is your money.

Yeah, I don't really know how much our person is doing -- it seems like we do get some cr@ppy notes and some really late notes, and we don't hear about resolution of that. However, the official job duties is worth a lot more than $50/week, imo. All I can say is there's no way I would want to do it. 😱 Maybe more communication would be good.

So what did you guys think about the exam review email. It sort of gave me the vibe that exam review isn't really going to happen for us this year.

Yeah, I got that vibe, too. I don't know what we can do about it, it's not like our averages have been low on any tests. There were some HB questions that should have been thrown out. Dr. S hinted at the test review that some might have been if they had been objected to. I personally think that the exam review person should be as shameless about getting points back (to the point where it doesn't annoy the course directors too much).

Did you (or anyone) go to that HB review on Friday?
I'm wondering what he said we should know about block 1.

I went to it, but it was pretty useless. He didn't really say much about what was going to be on the next test. They use a question bank system, and they remove the questions that were on the first test from that bank.

He also said that he though that the most of the points people would miss would be from Dr. Tucker's lectures. Of course, thats where most of the questions are coming from...

Nope, not my eye.

Letters go out in 5 days!😱

Its still a pretty eye. It looks feminine enough I'm comfortable saying that.

Good luck, hopefully everyone will have cause to celebrate next weekend!!

Unless I'm cancelling anniversary plans because of a new summer date with Leon and Friends...

Notegroups--my problem with them is that when they are written by somebody who has no clue about what was being said, they waste more time for me than they are worth. It also does me no good to try to study from them only to read "see figure X for an explanation" or "he basically just followed the syllabus." Dunno if our chair is any good or not, but I do know that the admissions committee was a little bit too liberal with some of their decisions.

HB--didn't go the review but don't care about exam review. Students have to complain directly to the department for that class anyway. Somebody someplace gave me points back on the exam because my score inflated.

For biochem, I went and looked at the test, wrote the review chair an email with my issues, and got all of my points back for what I argued. Gross average was an 85--no reasonable professor is going to start giving points back when the first test average is a middle B. I only thought one question was unfair anyway.

The exam review chairman who got elected is not the person I voted for, but then again, almost everyone who got elected is not who I voted for (except for the treasurer of course--he was a shoe-in and the philanthropy girl who makes my myocardium go pitter-patter-pitter-patter). Not to mention the teenager--don't get me started.

Thanks for the remind glp. I had no idea.

Yeah pre-allo dudes and chicas--more Q's.

This block of pharmacology sucks, but I'm having a hard time really working through it since we have Tuesday off.

I'm very ambivalent about test blocks. 😛

Incidentally, the section about the exam review committee in your unofficial guide is not very good. I rewrote the whole thing, but somewhere in the editing process, the one from the previous year got put in there instead. So all that crap about getting 14 points back on exams or whatever - yeah, that didn't happen for us. I actually heard a rumor that last year they decided to crack down on that a bit - I think they were worried about grade inflation or something along those lines.

Bottom line: don't think that you're getting cheated with exam review or anything - it wasn't any better for us last year.

Incidentally, so far this year we got 2 or 3 back on PCM, IHI, and Pharm (don't remember MMI). Only PCM and Pharm use the exam review committee, so it makes my job a bit easier 😀
