Was it my imagination or did I just see some osteopathic medicine being done on the sidelines? It looked like he was doing some Right 1st rib action. Anyone care to tivo and replay it? it was about 1:30 before the end of the third quarter. They were talking about preventing cramps and bananas for some potassium.

nah man it was just some professional PT doing some massage...
LOL

I saw that! I went nuts and my family just looked at me like what? who did you see on tv? i said, noooooo not someone, something! OMM!!

Hahaha...that's a flat out lie.

Why would I lie? Maybe I should have said " There are many osteopathic physicians that work for pro sports teams" Does that make you happy?

You do see the difference, don't you? Could you provide a link or list as well to support your claim (whether it be many or most)?

Off the top of my head the following team docs are D.O.s
Red Wings
Spurs
Suns
Pistons
Chargers
Mariners
And the sports med doc I go to used to be the team physician for Notre Dame Athletics
And here is a link that list some of the teams

Maybe you need to chill a little and not look at every little detail.

It's not about scrutinizing every little detail, it's about the amount of misinformation that is perpetuated on this board. When you say that "most pro sports physicians are DOs", you're definitely making a statement that others will read and pass on to others. I would say that's just as foolish as someone coming on here and saying there are no DO ophthalmologists - either way you look at it, it's misinformation.

It sounds like roughly 6-10 DOs work as professional sports team physicians - just off the top of my head, that may be roughly properly represented (~10%).

just because the trainer starts rubbing some sore area on a player doesn't mean they're doing OMM...give me a break.

ANAL! Peace Out

Haha, I thought the same thing to when they showed that player being worked on. Looked sort of like he was being set up for some 1st rib stuff, more than likely probably just doing some neck stretches or general massage stuff.

When they showed the bananas though the table those nanners were sitting on sure looked similar to the portable OMM table some people here have.

Just about every prof team has a chiropractor on staff so that is what you guys could have seen as well, with regards to the table and treatment. Just a thought.

Dr. Kappler at CCOM used to work with the Bears, he showed us some hamstring stretch/treatment 'that I worked on with Richard Dent!' I don't know if he was on the sidelines during games, but he treated some Bears.

It doesn't matter whether it was "offical OMM treatment" or not, at least not to me. The stuff really works and more imoprtantly most of OMM used is pretty intuitive (once you understand some basic anatomy and physiology). Its not some obscure voodoo magic, its simple. The fact is a lot of similar treatments are used in athletics and by the general public to treat minor aches and pains but people don't realize what they are doing. I think if people understood how natural most of it really is and could grasp the concepts of manipulative therapy, they would be more open to its effectiveness. But yes it did look like a 1st rib treatment I'll admit but i agree that it probably wasn't.
