On 6 Waitlists and still nothing!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
6 waitlists here too ;o nothing yet

hehe, god help us. btw i totally agree w/ u on this one:

"Pre-meds need to chill. Medical School isn't EVERYTHING. MCAT isn't EVERYTHING. Being an open-minded, intelligent, sincere person with manner is much MORE meaningful"

I'm only on 3 wait lists, but I feel your pain.

Think about it this way: you have 2x's the chance of getting off the wait list than I do. 👍

It all depends on which schools?

lol, we must've really pissed off our interviewers

here r mine:

Wash. U.
USC
UCSD
Baylor
Vanderbilt
NYMC

WL movement seems to be happening a little later this year than in years past. Don't worry guys I believe it'll happen for us waitlisters. Best of luck to everyone.

I agree with size_tens.....Hang in there peeps.....it will happen....stay positive and have a great week!!!! :luck: 😀

just keep your heads up and don't give up!! It will happen in time, just be patient. 👍

Does Wash U waitlist many of its applicants like the college does? I know that for undergrad they waitlist a ridiculous amount of their applicants

What is the list like for the rest of you guys one waitlists?

Word on the street (SDN street that is) is that WashU does waitlist a huge amount of applicants...........i've heard figures ranging from 200-1000, so either way, those of us on their WL have many bulls to sacrifice to the waitlist gods. geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez..................

does anyone know how they go through such a HUGE waitlist, if its not ranked.

so everytime somone withdraws, they look at 500 or so waitlisters again 🙄

I doubt any medical college looks at all of their alternate list applicants every time there is a space to fill. From the discussions I've had with different admissions staff, most schools organize their alternate lists into subdivisions... call them tiers, quartiles, priorities, whatever you want. Even un-ranked alternate lists are usually organized into subdivided groupings of students that are "preferable" to other applicants. That's all I know.

I heard that they tend to like taking a certain number of applicants from each region, and that they have a separate committee for each region (midwest, west, northeast, etc). This would cut down the number of applicants they have to look through. Also, even if it is not ranked, I'm sure there are a few names the adcom has in mind that are at the top.

Considering there were about 10 interviewees with me, the fact that there were I think 4 days of interviewing each week, and this process goes on several months...I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Wash U. UCSD's alternate list seems to be moving though, check out the UCSD A-Pool thread. I received an acceptance (my first/only one) a week ago, and some others have gotten in recently as well.

My advice is to keep schools up to date, and try to get the deans to know your name by e-mailing them or something. At worst, they ignore you or forward your question to someone else, but at UCSD I sent in a letter of intent and got some responses from Dr. Rapaport.

6 waitlists, huh?

I got 9 waitlists, and still nothing... = (

just to let you guys know about washu, i got in there off the waitlist last thursday. i was pretty blown away. so keep up hope, the list is obviously still moving, and anything can happen.

gosh, kwanny, your on 9 lists. I've never heard of anyone getting waitlisted at that many schools. Your bound to get in somewhere though. Just keep sending in updates and calling.

I was waitlisted at 5 schools last year and I honestly feel that I probably could have been admitted somewhere if I'd just been a little more proactive. As for this year my app really didn't change very much besides adding 2 vocational pursuits. I was waitlisted again, this time at 2 schools and just learned today that I'm in at rwj. It could only be from calling, writing those LOIs, and sending in that additional rec. Don't give up yet there's still the rest of June and July.

lakun

I'm on 2 waitlists (Upstate HP and Dartmouth). And on HOLD at Downstate.

Any idea about Dartmouth movement?

If the gossip is true about your acceptance to emory then I'd have to urge you to quit complaining. Less than half the applicant pool will get an acceptance and its getting tougher and tougher. Be happy!

Hey man. I didn't say I had no acceptances. I didn't hear anything from the schools at which I've been waitlisted. 😀

People say its unethical but I really think ad comms check where you are already accepted... that might have something to do with your (and my) lack of luck.

Dood, u got into a cali school, man. I've been betrayed by our own state schools. Jeez... I really can't figure this process out at all. What do I do now? Emory starts early too... like in 4 weeks... my chances are small, and it's getting smaller after each day... :scared:

Did you tell the schools that you are waiting for that Emory starts in 4 weeks?

Good luck all...something's bound to come up soon. Keep the faith
