According to Dailyfinance.com (http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/ceo-worker-pay-inequality-index/19540733), CVS CEO makes top of the list in term of "How many workers you can hire for the price of one CEO"

CVS Caremark (CVS)
Thomas M. Ryan: $30.4 million (2009 Compensation)
Starting Cashier: $8/hour, $20,800/year
One CEO = 1,461 entry-level employees

No wonder why they treat their employees badly! 😡

Assuming one CVS full-time pharmacist makes an average of 110,000 a year, Tom Ryan = 276 pharmacists!

This complaint is ******ed...

Do you think there is a reason they pay him that amount of money? Yeah, because under his leadership the company pulls in a billion plus per year.

Why is this so hard for people to get...

How much is Lebron going to make? Why? It is the amount of money he brings to the organization. The same deal goes for a CEO. If they cannot deliver on their promises, they are shown the door. If they continue to produce diamond encrusted quarterly statements, then they deserve to make millions in return.

The great thing about it - If you have that much drive and business sense, you can do it and make millions too.

Now quit *ucking complaining about it.

Yup. Or in nicer terms, here is an excerpt from a The Simple Dollar article...
When you go to work, you’re paid a certain amount of money. The reason that an employer does that is because they believe the work you do provides more value to the business than the wage they pay you. Otherwise, they would either pay you less or give the work to another worker. It’s for this reason that bosses hem and haw about giving people raises.

Or at least this is how it's supposed to work...

I wonder how much of the millions that CVS gets in corporate subsidies and and tax credits goes to pay for Tom Ryans $30 million compensation package? Im sure you think it is entirely reasonable that while rhode islanders are losing their homes, jobs, money is being cut from state school budgets etc that they should pay taxes to wet the beak of Tom Ryan. Also, I dont see what merits Tom Ryan's pay increase, his performance as of late seems to me to be a little substandard. I mean over the past few years I have seen more stores overworked and understaffed along with a crumbling economy and the numerous scandals they have faced this year. I find it interesting that while the company claims that it has to cut employee hours and staffing to make up for poor business decisions that the Ceo is taking home an extra $10 million a year. It seems to me that this salary is based less on Ceo performance and more so on the broken backs of other people.

You are drawing correlations that do not exist. I imagine Rhode Island is one of the states to designate CVS/Caremark as its PBM of choice? If that is the case, you haven't got a complete picture of what this program entails. If Caremark didn't get this contract (which was determined via a bidding war w/ juicier deals for each state involved), some other random PBM would be reaping the money and giving it to their CEO.

That is how all government contracts work. As CEO, his job is to make his corporation profitable. He is doing so but cutting back everywhere he can. Agree with it or not, that is the job of the CEO. If it wasn't him, you would be complaining about someone else.

You hate the corporate system - I agree with you. But this complaint comes up over and over again. It has zero merit for the very reasons I discussed in the post above. You need guys like that running the ship, else you end up bankrupt with no job.

FWIW - he is out next year... and you will have someone new to piss, moan, and whine about.

EDIT: You got me - I haven't a clue what the relationship is between RI and CVS aside from drugstores existing in the state and some golf tournament CVS sponsers... Please elaborate

Please tell me you did not get into a real pharmacy school. I'm trying to hold it in. Wait, I can't hold in any more. You are CLUELESS.

Let's see. When Tom Ryan became CEO, CVS was a small New England Chain with about 1200 stores. It is now one of the largest companies in the country. Bigger than Boeing, Bigger Than Proctor and Gamble. It's over 7000 stores a clinic operation a PBM and 90 billion in sales. You think spending money on more techs would have been a better investment?

Let's see how their treating their employees:

No layoffs in the recession. Raises for all store employees. Full match on 401K. How is the competition doing? Ask the Walgreens and Rite Aid people getting laid off left and right. Those that are left don't get the 401K match anymore. Do I think CEO salaries are obscene? Yes I do. I also think actors/bankers/athletes also make obscene salaries. The market sets the price. That's the way our system works. Pharmacists were happy with supply and demand as long as salaries doubled like over the last ten years.

Bunch of wining stupid no nothing *****s....

Exactly, which is why I can never take a CVS pharmacist that complains as being serious.

To whom should Tom Ryan make the check out to?

You did forget being investigated by the DEA, HHS, FTC and numerous State Boards of Pharmacy. As far as unethical, profession destroying, law breaking behavior I would say Tom Ryan gets paid what he is worth. No one has been better than CVS at disregarding the law to make an extra buck. Be proud CVS employes!
