If I take one more class this summer, I pick up a chem/econ double major. That would cause my app to be complete mid August.

If I don't take the class, I would just be a chem major but my app could be complete in June.

Is it worth for me to get this double major? I think having an Econ major gives me more credibility when I speak speak about the business side of medicine, inequalities in health care due to socioeconomic standings, etc. Having an Econ major helps me tie things together and makes me slightly unique.

Is it worth applying late though? That's the real question.

No, it is not worth applying late. You can always submit your application, still take the class, and send an update letter to schools later.

Your major matters so little in the scope of admissions that it is not worth waiting to submit until August. You would not be verified until September.

Don't apply late. Can't you just put that you're a prospective Economics major?

Also, how well you're actually able to speak about "the business side of medicine, inequalities in health care due to socioeconomic standings, etc." in your primary/secondary essays and your interview is what will give you credibility, not the degree itself.

Yeah I'll probably just talk about the Econ classes I have taken, rather than the major I have. Or a prospective major. Thank you!

Yea it's important to be able to talk about these things elsewhere, but what if someone asks me...yeah so why are you even interested in the income aspects of medicine? To that I would say - Oh well I have naturally been interested in economics, just look at my major. It helps me tie together responses better.

You can still say, "I'm naturally interested in economics, just look at the several courses I've taken. I'm actually also planning on majoring in econ"

Also, I think the better answer would be talking about how you think the "income aspects of medicine" and economics can contribute to medicine on a larger scale. So, you can talk about the possibilities it offers to somehow furthering healthcare, approached from a different angle. You mentioned the "inequalities in health care due to socioeconomic standings"--this would be something to tie in here.
