Hey guys,

I've interviewed at 6 schools so far. I have acceptances at ACOM and CUSOM, but those are low-tier schools on my list. Also, I am waiting to hear back from my top choice (KCU-COM). Since I have not been accepted to a mid-tier school on my list, I am planning on interviewing at one more (interviewed at MUCOM = waitlisted). The choice is between RVU and PCOM-GA. I've researched each school a bit, but cannot really tell which is "better." I would appreciate some insight because I will only be attending one more interview. Any thoughts on RVU or PCOM-GA?

Stats: 3.8x GPA, 25 MCAT

PCOM-GA is more established, and is a branch campus of one of the best DO schools. If you are looking for a solid mid tier DO school, that is an excellent choice. RVU is for profit.

You might like Denver more than suburban Atlanta, but in reality I think a school's actual reputation is more important.

Definitely RVU. It is known to have great board scores and is on the rise.

I don't think reputation is THAT important, tbh. At the end of the day, all of the DO schools are going to be seen as DO schools...
I think you should go with one that you know prepares students to a great ability.

Also, if KCU is your top choice because of curriculum, the dean of the school came from RVU, so you know it prepares students well.

I think a school should be based on ur support system, also. If one is closer to your family or your loved ones, interview there.

Also, wtf does for profit even have to do with anything...

If that's a reason you're not going to interview somewhere... kind of dumb, imo

In the outside world this is true, DOs are DOs, but when you are in school the quality of clinical education tends to vary, PCOM is one of the best DO schools, I would imagine its branch campus offers the same quality as its older branch.

Choose the one that offers decent clinical education during your third year (teaching hospitals where your clerkships are WARDS-based and not preceptor based, hospitals with GME/resident teams you work under).

Would say RVU probably has the upper hand on this since PCOM-GA is competing with GRU and other DO programs in the region for rotation sites.

RVU only has to deal with Colorado University and I believie KCU (though KCU isn't sending many over there any way)

RVU has great boards and a good match list.
PCOM has many AOA residencies in its network. I would be interested to know if they allow GA students to rotate at their hospital network.

From what I've heard, board performance is more closely related to individual effort than curriculum. Given that, I would say go to the school that has better clinical rotations.

But bro, lets be real. We'll be meeting again, you know where! 😉

I sure hope so man!

Don't forget you have a roughly 80% chance of acceptance post interview at RVU. If PCOM-GA's post interview acceptance rate is less than 50% then in your shoes I'd probably lean toward RVU just for the yield.

Do you like steak or barbecue???

RVU hands down. They are required to take the USMLE and have good clinical rotations. They have a pretty rocking match list as far as DO schools go and have a really high average board score. PCOM-GA is in Georgia.. is there any other reasons to go to RVU? (not to mention the 80% acceptance post interview that was talked about earlier, very high yield)

Pcom-ga. Ga is beautiful, Pcom is a great, and rocky vista has a lot of bad wrap from current students.

I don't believe it at all. Maybe one or two students because every school has its pros and cons but RVU students rotate at a hospital that I work at frequently and they all have given great reports. I actually haven't heard anything negative from them... and I ask as many different ones as I can.

I go to GAPCOM so if you have any questions just ask!
